I just tried uninstalling and reinstalling WOD on both the watch and phone and during this process, I got the big option asking if I wanted to allow access to Health. I clicked yes and made sure everything was turned on. Despite this, it still did not record heart rate and things like power and calories, which were all working until last week. So I think I'm out options. Very sad that I'll probably have to go back to using the native Workout app :(

Sorry that didn't work. Unfortunately there isn't anything the app can do about it. Hopefully Apple will fix whatever they have broken soon.

I just did a hike, went to Fitness to add the RPE and noticed it was there which I haven't seen before with WOD. Is WOD now automatically adding RPE, or maybe Apple doing it now for third-party workout apps?

WOD does not specifically add any effort information. It allows you to add it at the end of a workout but does not calculate an estimate otherwise.

However in theory watchOS should calculate an estimate for the effort. It was not doing so for third party apps when I asked Apple about it a year ago, so maybe that is something that they have now fixed.

Love the app, and all the cool things it doesn't underneath the hood, but one aspect I enjoy in my sports watch, is the way the information is presented. I recently moved to an AWU3 from Garmin Fenix 8, and miss a certain style of setup, that I cannot seem to replicate on this app. As you can see from the image, I want HR Gauge, Distance, Pace, and time elapsed.

No-one else is reporting that. Do you have the app configured to use Apple's auto-pause or the WorkOutDoors auto-pause? To check go to Settings / Pausing (in WorkOutDoors, not in Apple's settings).

Also please could you send the wkt file for that workout to info@workoutdoors.net and I will take a look. To do this tap the Export button 3 times quickly.
I did have the app configured to use Apple's auto-pause. I changed that and the spurious pauses stopped for a while.

Until today when I was about to do a long (for me -75K) bike ride. As usual I opened the workout and waited for heart rate to appear before starting the workout. I hit start and began pedaling but within a few seconds Auto Pause started. I rode for another ten or fifteen meters, but the pause continued. I stopped the workout and started over again, but the same thing happened. On the third try I decided to continue cycling for a few hundred meters. Still, the Auto Pause persisted. Finally, I gave up, stopped the workout and switch to Apple's Workout app which performed as expected for all 76K. Auto pause only when appropriate.

As a former writer of software I understand how frustrating it can be when there is an intermittent problem that affects only one user and there is no data.

I can't fix the first two, but the next time this happens I will stick to WOD for the entire workout, even if it's paused the whole time. I hope that will produce a wkt file that tells you something.

You can display all those fields using WorkOutDoors. The time of day is always in the top right of the screen (Apple don't allow that to be removed) but can also be displayed elsewhere if you wish. The HR zone gauge can be configured at the bottom of the screen by going to Settings / Screen. And the other fields can be configured in the Screens tab.

You won't have exactly the same layout because the Apple Watch doesn't have a circular screen, but you could get close.

Note that you can now configure many new layouts by merging adjacent fields. So the grid that shows 3x6 fields can be made to show fewer larger fields in many different arrangements. Although in your case the 2x4 grid may be better to start with and then merge the top and bottom rows.

This still hasn't been reported by anyone else since you mentioned it last week. Have you tried rebooting the watch? That often fixes strange problems that no-one else is reporting.

It could be GPS issues because both the WOD and Apple's auto-pause would be using that. Sometimes watchOS can be slow to provide GPS locations to the app, which can make the app think you have paused. That is often fixed by a reboot.

Such delays would also be reported in the WOD log so please could you send me the wkt file for the workouts that had problems. To do this tap the Export button 3 times quickly and email it to info@workoutdoors.net.

Hello is it possible to have a shortcut to voice memos while in a workout? I do my best thinking on runs and voice memos are best at remembering things. Thanks!

None of the affected workouts have lasted long enough to be saved. Next time it happens (not today) I'll let the workout continue and send you the wkt file.

I make a point to check the GPS and heart rate before I start a workout. Although it was overcast yesterday, the GPS indicator had four bars. Next time this happens I'll get a more accurate GPS reading from the GPS Diagnostics app.

I"m convinced that this is a flaw in the watch (Ultra 1). You'll recall that a couple of months ago I reported that constant pause/resume sequences made it almost impossible for me to listen to music using headphones while running with WOD. I've since given up on the headphones. I think it's caused by the watch generating phantom/ghost taps during workouts. This happens even when water lock is enabled.

Unfortunately I don't think it is possible for one watch app to start another app. I may be wrong though.

Have you tried unpairing the watch from the phone and then re-pairing it? That sometime fixes strange issues with watchOS.

Hello everyone! Could some of you post your running monitor designs here? This would allow everyone to find good ideas and draw inspiration from them? Thanks 😊

These are the setting I use if mainly running, on my Ultra 3:
Watch app / Action button
- Action: Workout
- App: WorkOutDoors
- First Press: Run
Watch app / General
- Return to Clock: After 2 minutes
- Return to Clock / Apps / WorkOutDoors: When in session Return to App: ON
WorkOutDoors app / Settings / Commands / Shortcut Gestures
- Crown + Side Button: Pause/Resume
- Action Button: End Workout
- Action + Side Button: New Interval
WorkOutDoors app / Settings / Pace & Distance / Running Settings
- Distance & Average Pace Source: GPS
- Current (Instantaneous) Pace Source: Pedometer
- Current (Instantaneous) Pace Smooting: approx. 25%
WorkOutDoors app / Settings / Screen
- Running Settings: Use Always on Display ON
WorkOutDoors app / Settings / Start Options
- Running Settings: Water Lock Enabled on Start ON
- Running Settings: Precision Start ON
- Running Settings: Precision Start via Action Button ON
- Running Settings: Precision Start if using Sensors ON
- Running Settings: Sensor Auto-Start OFF

1st press of Action: Start screen for a run with status fields for GPS and HRM and a switch for Countdown (off by default)
2nd press of Action: Start run
3rd press of Action: End run and show summary (with a possibility to Discard Workout)

I just did a hike, went to Fitness to add the RPE and noticed it was there which I haven't seen before with WOD. Is WOD now automatically adding RPE, or maybe Apple doing it now for third-party workout apps?
This is just a watchOS 26 thing. It now automatically adds RPE to 3rd party data.

Thanks for the app, it’s a fantastic addition to my Apple Watch!

I downloaded a GPX through iOS 26 Safari today and found that Workoutdoors wasn’t in the list of apps I could send it to. Eventually I figured out that I could open Files and Share it from there but opening it wasn’t possible. Should this have worked? Would it be possible to add support for opening GPXs?

You can usually find WOD on the list of apps if you tap the More option at the end of the list that iOS offers.

Or save it in Files and then open it by tapping Import on the Routes tab.

Thanks for the reply and the tip about using Import, it didn’t occur to work that way around! However I don’t think I’m making the rest of my report clear.

In the Files app I was able to find Workoutdoors on the Share list. The problem was that Workoutdoors wasn’t on the “Open With” list and there wasn’t a More… button to tap. Downloads in Safari appears to use the Open With list when you tap a file and there doesn’t appear to be a way to Share a download. Does Workoutdoors need to register to get on the Open With list? It would be convenient to skip that extra step, thanks 😀

I don't know why it's not on the Open With list. I will add it to my list of things to investigate because it would be nice. It only saves a couple of taps but would be more intuitive.

If it is an easy fix then I will change it in the next version but otherwise it won't be high on the list because I can't remember anyone else ever mentioning it (certainly not recently). Sorry about that.

here is my shortcuts :

- Crown + Side : end workout
- Action button : new interval (swim workout) or Screen Lock (Hiking/ running in winter with sleeve)
- Action + side : pause/resume

taps : all on nothing !

Swipe left : now playing (for walk session with airpod)
swipe right : info screen (would love a screen directly)

Long touch : only one button : settings -> for voice setting and some minor changes sometimes during workout

Hand Gesture : nothing

Crown :
both up for Previous Screen
both down for Next Screen

-> I use map only for hiking and I have two buttons for Zoom in or Zoom out
screen.jpg

with my settings : I can NEVER have a pause or end of workout because of a wrong touch on the screen (from sleeve or my hand .. and mainly sleeve). After a long hiking this is essential.

Crown always change the screen, even on map. When a zoom is ok, I prefer the crown for quickly change a screen and not the zoom.

Just an asking : can you have a repeat of the pause message every one minute for example, just to be aware we are on this mode (if we forget to restart).

That isn't possible at the moment but I am working on a "possibly resumed" alert which reminds you if you move whilst paused.

Hello, since the iOS update, my action button no longer works to start a new running interval. I have an Apple Watch Ultra 1. I've restarted both the watch and the iPhone but without success. Are others experiencing the same problem? Only an orange color appears and disappears...

Earlier this year, I went back to the default screens. Since then, I have customised the screens somewhat. I mostly use WorkOutDoors when I have a gpx route to follow in an area. WOD then activates the "route screen". There's also a "climb screen". I have changed the "climb screen", so that it is identical to the "route screen", except for the bottom part, where it shows the climb profile rather than the route profile. I have found that I was not interested in the other custom fields on the climb screen, and so I reverted those to be the same as what I'm used to on the route screen.

(I may have made other changes to the screens, but I'm not sure whether there's a way to non-destructively compare my custom setup with the defaults.)
