I'm not sure but I think SDZ is referring to the map that is actually in use, perhaps he wants to use a different map within WOD, not the one that the Watch uses. Probably something like the ability to use different maps with a Garmin, but I don't think Apple allows other maps to be installed.

WorkOutDoors only allows the OpenStreetMap map that it currently shows. There is no way to use other maps. However the next version will allow you to customise the colour scheme used by the map, and also to have some control over the features that are shown on the map.

Probably not for a while - I have got a bit carried away adding new features during the lockdown. Sorry about that. The latest beta is quite stable and was looking good for release, but then I had the urge to add new stuff...

Ha! No worries, your hard work is appreciated of course.

I am not optimistic either. The pessimist in me wonders if they have given up on improving the workout functionality after the complete absence of new features last year, but that is hopefully unlikely. I will wait until after WWDC before deciding what to concentrate on next. The plan is to get a new version out before the (virtual) conference and then be prepared to react to whatever is announced. If nothing new is announced again then Stryd is high on my to-do list.
Hey @cfc I'm glad I found you here. I was searching for WOD working with Stryd (which I just ordered) and found some of your responses referring to Stryd in the search results. Where better to come than to the authority himself! I’ll be happily following you here to stay on top of what you’re doing with WOD, which I consider head and shoulders above every other workout app. Thanks for the fantastic tool!

Thanks! The Stryd plans depend on what Apple announce at their developers conference next month. If they do not include native Stryd support, and do not announce any stuff in watchOS 7 that requires lots of work on the app, then I will look at connecting to Stryd.

That sounds like an excellent plan. Really looking forward to Stryd support.

Hi, when I open WorkOutDoors the little arrow icon at the top will not go away unless I restart my watch. This just recently started happening. I’ve tried closing out of it on the dock. Series 4 GPS + LTE.

This appears when you navigate with a third-party app. If you still see the navigation icon
watchos5-arrow-nav-inline-icon.png
after you end your navigation, restart your watch.

The app keeps the GPS on for 5 minutes after you last use it. This is so that it does not have to reacquire the GPS if you lower your wrist for a moment before starting a workout. If you wait 5 minutes without using the app then it should go away.

I don’t suppose any of those new features includes alerts for approaching POI’s?

I am afraid not, but route improvements (including POI alerts) are top of my list for the following version, along with Stryd support.

However everything depends on what Apple announce at WWDC. For example if they were to allow third party apps to take advantage of the always on display then getting that working before watchOS 7 is released would be top priority.

No real questions but just to highlight this is a game changing app in my view for anyone using their AW for indoor or outdoor activity. I’ve been looking for this level of customisation and rich features for such a long time and now have it !

Amazing work Ian ... thank you.

Hi there!

Again with my the altitude bug. I post it here, maybe someone can reproduce it. Altitude stats and altitude graph on my AW are not getting data from the same source. Is it even possible? The graph is extremely accurate but all other stats are just random. U can see it on all the pictures. Finally, on workout summary You can see the correct graph, but after exiting it and bringing it back from workout history, the graph changes to what I saw in numbers during the exercise.

This looks too complex to investigate here. Please contact me at info@workoutdoors.net and I will take a look.

Does WOD support shortcuts for Siri?

Not at the moment. I have considered adding them but you are actually the first person to ask for them. If more people ask then I may look into them, depending on what is announced at WWDC this week.

Hi cfc!
I love your app and use for a while
Have only one issu but i can not live withoute this: add custom poi-s
For my work in the forest it is essential but while i use your app for tracking i have to use an other for create and later find custom poi-s. Is there any way to add poi to WorkOutDoors? Or do you plan it in the near future?

I plan to improve the POI functionality in the future. At the moment the app will display the waypoints in a GPX file as POI icons, and you can also export waypoints for the beginning of each interval or lap, but there is not the specific ability to create POIs or navigate to them. I will add that in a future version.

So @cfc , starting with Stryd support now? Seems the only addition to watchOS 7 will be a dancing app... ;-). No native footpod support in sight.
Sadly also nothing on AOD for 3rd party apps mentioned.

Out of interest what app are you using??

I’d like to be able to save multiple POIs whilst out and about and haven’t been able to find an app that does it.

As long as can view coordinate data or export somehow then I’d be happy. But obvs navigate (just direction and distance) back to saved points would be good too within the same app.

I am waiting for the State of the Union talk later today, and the other videos later this week, but on first glance there doesn't seem much new for workouts this year. Again.

There is a way to create and export waypoints using WorkOutDoors but it is a bit convoluted. When exporting a GPX file of the workout there are settings that allow you to include waypoints for the start of each lap or interval.

So you can set up a shortcut to the New Interval command (e.g. triple tap), then every time you want to create a waypoint then just triple tap. Then go to the Settings tab on the iPhone and tap Export Options and switch on GPX Interval Waypoints.

You can then export the GPX and import it into whatever systems you want to view the waypoints. This includes as a route file in WorkOutDoors, where the waypoints will be shown as icons on the map.

As I say it's a bit convoluted so I will add proper waypoint creation and navigation in the future, but it is at least possible.

Great, would be interested if you see some interesting stuff.

But one thing is for certain: the combination of WOD and Stryd would be a killer.

Stryd and improving routes are top of my list for the future unless WWDC does throw up any surprises. There is still a good chance of finding something in the detail that entails changes to the app.

And I still have a new version of the app to get out in the meantime...
