Quick question as every since I reinstall my watch I am facing a problem.

I always run with my watch only (no iPhone) and listening to music.

On WOD I have voice alerts every lap but in the past the alerts were spoken over the music (i.e. music volume would just be lowered during the speaking of the alert) and since the reinstall of the watch the music is paused, the alerts are spoken and the music is resumed (99% of the time).

I tried with mapmyrun and there the alerts are still being spoken over the music. Is there any settings that I am missing?

Same problem. I had intervals set up and every time WOD spoke it shut down my podcasts.

Ian, another nice feature will be to add navigate to the start point of the route at least in the iPhone app. This way you click this button and you can select which navigator will bring you to the star point, for example, Navigon, Maps, Sigyc, etc .,, and you go by car to this point, then you star the route. You can see this feature in Komoot app.

Well... problem solved. Uninstall and install WOD solved the issue

Another quick question, what does means the GPS Dist in this workout page View attachment 959868

The app measures the distance in two ways. By default it uses Apple’s distance estimates, which use the calibrated pedometer. But it also calculates the distance purely from the GPS positions. This metric shows the difference between the two estimates.

If you find that the GPS distance looks more accurate then it is worth calibrating the watch as described here: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204516

If the calibrated distances really don’t work for you then you can switch to the GPS distances. To do that press the watch screen hard (or long touch for watchOS 7) and tap Settings then More, and then switch off the Use Calibrated Distances option.

So...the alerts are definitely disabled. I only have heart rate zones and distance alerts enabled. I do have a maximum and minimum pace set for my intervals but I only want my pace read out on the interval alerts I set.

At present, it kinda just chatters in my ear constantly. I get slow pace notifications, fast pace notifications and pretty constant reassurances that I’m within my target pace. Today it was talking so much it was interrupting the countdown for the interval ending.

By the way....this is an incredible app. I’d just like it to work how it did before I upgraded my watch!

Only new feature I’d like added is a voice workout summary at the end of the run. :)

It sounds like these are the alerts indicating whether or not you are within the target pace for an interval. It’s hard to know what has changed (because many things could affect this) but you can switch them off either by removing the pace target for the interval or by changing the alert settings. To do this press the watch hard (or long touch for watchOS 7) and tap Settings then Alerts then Running then Scheduled Interval Alerts. Then switch off all the switches in the Target Alerts section.

No-one has asked for an optional voice summary at the end of the workout but it soonds a good idea.

No-one has ever asked for that but it sounds useful and feasible. I will add it to my to-do list (although it won’t be high on the list unless more people ask for it).

I had this problem too until I set the distance open or at least “until ended by user”. I have found the speak metrics a little confusing especially having to wait till you go out again. Is there a way to test them at home?

Ah. Those were all on. Got them off now so hopefully that’s it sorted

And yeah... an end of workout notification would be great. Ideally with the same customisation as you have for the start of a new interval (e.g. previous interval pace etc etc)

The app should speak the word "test" whenever you change a voice setting such as the volume, the accent etc. To change the voice settings touch the screen for a second and tap Settings then More then Voice.

Someone on reddit reported that they had this problem but it was fixed by rebooting both the watch and the iPhone, so hopefully that will work for you.

How many miles should this last for?
ive just done under 7 miles walk before a fully charged watch went into power save mode.
Result the app lost all of its data and has not auto saved as it progressed.

I would expect the app to autosave to cope with battery loss?

I think it’s more time than distance that will affect battery life. For what it’s worth, I ran a half marathon in around 2 hours whilst streaming music via cellular to my Bluetooth headphones. I still had about 20% battery left after that.

It is the easiest way to arrive to the start point of your route. Today I used Komoot to arrive to it and WOD to follow the route, problem is I should upload GPX file in to different apps.

starting point was 45 km far from my home.

The app lasts for the same as the Apple Workout app, which varies between 4 and 6 hours (depending on streaming, cellular etc) without the iPhone present, and about 8 to 10 hours with the iPhone providing GPS. With extreme battery saving settings I have heard of users getting 12+ hours of battery use.

Note that watchOS 7 seems to be extremely power hungry for some users (as is common with new versions of watchOS). You may need to wait a few days for it to stop indexing, and maybe also reboot it for it to be less power hungry. Social media is full of complaints about watchOS 7 battery usage.

In terms of auto-saving the workout, watchOS automatically does this so the details should be saved in the Health and Activity/Fitness apps. The next major version of WorkOutDoors will also periodically save the workout and recover it to the WorkOutDoors iPhone app if the battery runs out.

I don't know if this has been discussed here, but since updating to iOS14 and watchOS7, there have been some issues with WOD, some of them happened a few times (on my series 3):

- Within the first minutes of a workout, the app crashed a few times. The crashed workout is not visible in the WOD workout history on the watch or the phone. However, it is visible in the Apple Fitness App.

- WOD has a GPS signal, and saves it's own files with GPS, however it does not transfer the GPS to Apple Health. At least I can not see any GPS data in the Fitness App or HealthFit. An export from WOD to Strava still transfers the GPS data, however it would be nice if the GPS data will just make it to Apple Health. I noticed that I did one workout after updating to iOS14/wOS7 that correctly transferred the GPS data. All my workouts since then did not.

Is there any workaround?

The lack of a GPS route is a bug in iOS 14 / watchOS 7 that affects a lot of people. It is the most complained about bug in the new releases and affects every workout app (including Apple's own app). Some people have found that it is fixed by unpairing and re-pairing the watch. Installing watchOS 7.0.1 has fixed it for some people but not for others.

Getting multiple crashes sounds like watchOS is having serious problems. I would normally recommend rebooting the watch but that won't be necessary if you need to re-pair or install watchOS 7.0.1.

Do I need to change the settings if I want the iPhone to provide GPS, og does it happened automatically? This is useful when I'm out hiking, but when I run I just use AW.

You have nothing to do. You just have to keep you iPhone with you (and connected to the AW of course)

Thanks for your help! I updated to 7.0.1., hope that fixes it, otherwise I guess I need to re-pair the watch.

Does running with WOD also calibrates the watch? Or calibration only happens with native Workout app?

I wish I knew but Apple are unclear on that. They only mention their app in the calibration advice, but it could be that any app which uses their workout system (such as WOD) will also work. Unfortunately it's very difficult to tell.

I ran an interval set and noticed that the app didn't record a pace for the intervals. Bug, did I miss something?

Also, the notifications still shut down Overcast. I switched the watch to AOD and let the taps, which I didn't always feel, guide me. It worked well enough but I'd rather have the notifications.

Please could you send the wkt file for the workout to info@workoutdoors.net and I will take a look. To do this tap the Export button 3 times quickly. Thanks.

I test the audio with Apple's Podcast app but can't practically test it with all the different 3rd party apps. My logic is that if it works with Apple's app then it should work with the others unless they are doing something that they shouldn't be. Sorry about that.

2 days ago I went on a hike and had my best result ! nearly 20 km and nearly 2.000 active calories but somehow I didn't receive a medal for a new hiking record. It was definitely my longest hike and never had 2.000 active calories burnt in one hiking workout. Can't I get a medal because I didn't use the apple workout app? Is this an error by WoD or apple?

Sorry you haven't seen the award yet. All workouts created with any workout app should count towards awards, so it is probably an iOS issue. If a workout appears in the Activity/Fitness app then iOS knows about it and it should be counting it towards any challenges. I often see people on social media complaining about this for Apple's workout app and the more popular apps like Nike, Strava etc, but it has been months since anyone else complained about it for WorkOutDoors (presumably because it isn't as popular!).

The best thing I can suggest is to reboot your iPhone (and probably your watch too) and hope that iOS sorts itself out. Apple mention waiting 9 days for awards (which seems crazy) but if strange things are happening then a reboot is usually advisable.
