Not in the near future. The best wat to do that would be via the excellent HealthFit app.
I am using HealthFit app but the elevation isn't 1:1 trasmitted to strava.
I think healthfit doesn't use .fit files because Strava treats the elevation measurement as for a device without a baro and makes the correction.

I always assumed that HealthFit exports FIT files to Strava but I could be wrong. In my experience with sending GPX and TCX files to Strava they often recalculate the elevation by using their terrain model, even if you have indicated in the file that the device had a barometer. I don't know if this also applies to FIT files.

It doesn't applies to fit file. Example is Garmin and Suunto devices which are uploading .fit files and the elevation match 1:1

On further thought the reason that the elevation does not match when using HealthFit is probably because Apple's Health system does not store the elevation from the barometer. The workout route is a series of GPS locations and so HealthFit is probably forced to use the elevation from those, which is less reliable. The WOD app shows barometric elevations but the workout in Apple's Health system can only show GPS elevations.

So it is actually a limitation of Apple's Health system. It may be possible to over-ride the elevation for each GPS location with an absolute elevation value synthesised from the barometer and from a base GPS elevation (barometers only give relative elevations) but I have never heard of anyone doing that and I am not sure it is allowed.

It will be interesting to see if there are any elevation changes announced for watchOS 8 at WWDC in a couple of weeks. The series 6 watch apparently has an "always on altimeter" but Apple have never discussed exactly how this works, and its values are currently not available to third party apps. This may change now that the hardware has been available for a while (Apple try not to reveal future hardware features at WWDC) so it could be that the Health system will be able to store altimeter values in the future. We shall see.

In Saturday I have a long bicycle trip, assumptions are to use the GPS of the watch and the Bluetooth HR sensor. Ride will take about 10-12h. Have you charged your watch with the WoD app running? Can it be recharged without problems during a break, without switching off training?

It is slightly risky to charge during a workout. This is because watchOS can kill off an app when it needs resources for another app. When you are running a workout then the app seems to have protection from this because it is considered high priority by watchOS. However the protection seems less when paused and even less when the watch is not on your wrist.

In practice it is not usually an issue, but it can happen, especially if the watch is running many apps and/or you try running something else. Even receiving a notification can cause watchOS to kill off an app if the watch is running very low on resources.

In the past I suggested to people that they end the workout if they were charging the watch, and start a new one afterwards. However now that the app saves the data every few minutes in case of problems then it may be worth risking it, and only starting a new workout if the app is killed off. That way you will probably get a single workout but at the very worst you will have two workouts.

I hope that makes sense.

Any chance that importing scheduled workouts would be in the next release? I just started using TrainingPeaks, it’s a big pain setting my workouts up weekly manually on the phone.

It won't be in the next release because it is rarely requested, but it is is on my list for the future.

Hi and when? We re very impatient ! I know you’re waiting for the wwdc news. May be just after ? ?
I am not waiting just to hear the news from WWDC, but mainly to try the first beta of watchOS 8 / iOS 15 which should be released at WWDC. Many of the testers of the app will probably install those betas so I want to make sure that the WOD beta works on them.

Unfortunately I don't know how long it will take because it depends on whether there are issues. It is always a difficult time for developers because it is often hard to tell if any issues are due to deliberate changes in the watchOS/iOS betas or if they are due to bugs, which are especially common in first betas of any app or operating system.

No navigation improvements (probably in the following version) but it will have Stryd support, topographic maps, new alerts, new screen layouts, new gestures, new metrics etc.
Could the "new alerts" also mean that an alarm based on the HR zone can be set?

There is a "zone change" alert but you cannot specify a maximum or minimum heart rate in terms of zones if that is what you mean? I may allow that in the future.

However this is possible in the current version by creating a simple interval with a target type of "Heart Zone".

@cfc thanks!

Feature proposition.
Zone lock. Function that allows you to lock the particular zone you are currently in and create an alarm if you cross it either down or up.

This feature is very popular in Polar devices. Here is info how it works:

"
  1. Press and hold the OK button to lock into the zone you’re in. Your Vantage will then alert you if stray out of your target zone.
  2. Press and hold the OK button to turn ZoneLock off."
In WoD, it could be activated by a longer press on the HR field :)

There is a zone change alert, which will notify you whenever you change from one zone to another (or from a fraction of a zone to another fraction). This would do what you describe if you don't mind also being warned of zone changes when you are not interested in them?

Hi mate, many people will be installing public beta which probably will be released a month, maybe more after the first beta.
don't keep us without stryd functionality and please give us the first beta, please :)
cheers

There are a few other reasons as well. WatchOS 8 could mean major changes to the app. For example if they announce support for non-heartrate sensors (especially power sensors) then my Stryd code may need to be rewritten.

Also Apple often break something intentionally with new releases (e.g. the removal of force touch last year) and so I want to handle that sort of thing before releasing a beta.

The app uses Apple's workout system and whilst Apple have barely changed that in the last couple of years, I suspect it may be different this year. There are rumours of a more rugged watch, which may possibly mean more of a focus on workouts than usual.

WWDC is only 4 days away and it doesn't make sense to me to release a new beta just before Apple could announce lots of changes that affect the app. Sorry!

I am a fairly new WOD user and still struggling with tweaking the settings to my exact taste. Nothing too special.

However, in the last 3 runs this week, the voice alerts completely failed. I do not recall change anything voice-related from earlier runs. In Settings, I have Voice Enabled=ON and Device=iPhone. I am right now trying to test it by pressing the 'Tap this row to test the current settings' line but nothing happens.

During my run today, I realised that maybe the Watch was still in Silent mode so I checked the swipe-up-from-the-bottom menu on the Watch and switched Silent = OFF. But I still did not receive any voice alert - so completely messed up my Interval Workout :-(.

Is there something else I should check or change?

NB: during today's run, alert was set in various places in WOD. First, in the Interval Schedules section: start of and halfway through warming up and cooling down, start of and halfway through each interval. Plus in the 'Running Schedule Settings' part at the bottom: Schedule Alerts / all options checked. Second, in the Alerts section: Distance = Every km. And music was playing on my iPhone to my AirPods Pro. So I believe everything was set up properly.

Have you maybe reduced the Siri volume? The app uses Siri to speak the alerts.

If not then please reboot both the watch and the iPhone to see if that helps. That is usually the best thing to try for strange problems.

If that doesn’t help then please contact info@workoutdoors.net

After discussing with some fellow runners about the release of the new Garmin Forerunner 945LTE, maybe a cool feature for WOD would be LiveTracking. Just in case you need something to do after Stryd integration :)

Could also offer to develop the backend services that render the LiveTracking app. Maybe a MVP approach for this would be the best. Just having WOD send out packages every minute with the GPS points and a map that renders the path maybe hosted on AWS or elsewhere.
