Would you rather have Touch ID under the screen or Face ID?

We can wish for what we all want. Reality is Apple has embraced FaceID.

They certainly have and Face ID is what we will get for the foreseeable future. Definitely not arguing against that. Just saying in the future just sticking to one kind of biometric security is limiting.

I like touchID. FaceID “works” better but I like to be in control of when my device unlocks. Hopefully in the future there’s a way to implement that.

My girlfriend just leaves all security off on her iPhone X and has since November of last year, cause she hates Face ID so much lol. I use to hate it and still do but I’ve just suffered through it waiting 5 seconds to unlock my phone. We will see what the s10 brings. Maybe getting that phone when it’s released.

It’s difficult to say as I’ve not seen Touch ID under the screen working on any phone yet. For now I use and like Face ID. Apple have made it clear they are done with Touch ID so I won’t be using it on my iPhone.

I used to be like that, leaving all security off my phone. I learnt my lesson when my iPhone 4 was stolen. I’d rather have something on there locking my phone even if were only a passcode.

You are in control with Face ID because you have to swipe up before it unlocks.

Eventually FaceID will be lightning fast and have a much wider angle, meaning it will work when lying flat on the table, then it will beat Touch ID. It might not even take that long, be interesting to see what improvements are there in the new phones next month

It’s already pretty good. The only place it doesn’t work for me is in bed. But that’s more because I’m too lazy to move my face to the right angle to get it to work.

Or you can just look at your phone while it's in the table?

Which would require me leaning out of my chair to stick my face over it, when I could previously just stick my finger out, do something quickly and then go back to what I was doing before.

Face ID is much better, i love it on my iPhone X and really looking forward to it coming to the iPad Pro this year :)

It works in the rain, it has not failed since I’ve used it and even when on the bedside table charging it still works at an angle. I’m very happy with Face ID. I hope Apple eventually bring it to the Mac as well :D

Face ID. It's just so seamless.

Tim Cook stated directly face ID is the future for Apple. It won’t be just about the iPhone in the future, it’s likely going to make its way to the iPad and the MacBook. This is just the starting point.

Fully agreed here. Could Face ID improve? Absolutely. But it's clear that its the direction all these products will be moving to.

The whole point is passive authentication rather than active. Pick up the phone and use it. Can't wait to use an iPad like this as well.

Fingerprint sensor should be in the back, right under the camera, the shape of camera and the fingerprint sensor should be the same. Maybe it could include a cover so that the sensor doesn't get dirty over time. /s

I for one remember when most Android phones including Samsung had speakers on the back, I wonder what made them change them to the frame like the iPhone. They probably thought most people will pick the phone off the table and flip the phone to the back side to listen to music or phone calls.

I want both...
Might I suggest that would be a great business plan, want to get into the business of making phones, and become a competitor to iPhone?

In their current incarnations, I like both. Touch ID has been mostly reliable and with 2nd generation starting on 6S it has been lightning fast. I would always go into settings for Touch ID and keep adding more angles for my fingers to be read at. The fact that it allowed users to register up to 5 fingers was nice too.

Face ID is still in its infancy but it has been great for me about 95% of the time. Only gripes are when lying in bed, since it can't scan my face from an angle very well, and when lying flat on a table. I have to tap the screen and then hover over it. I'm confident that the new iPhones which adopt Face ID will see marked improvements, much like 2nd generation Touch ID starting on the 6S was a marked improvement over the 1st generation Touch ID. Regardless, I think that given the design and composition of the iPhone X, namely not having a home button, I feel like Face ID works more fluidly and seamlessly than a Touch ID would.

That being said, I am not sure how practically feasible Touch ID under the screen would be. Given all the technology that is currently under the hood and integrated into the screen, including 3D touch, I'm not sure how feasible that would be to translate.

At any rate, it appears that Apple has obviously gone all in with Face ID, and abandoned Touch ID, whether under a button or under any glass.

I don't have an X but I've seen a few people who continually had to lift the phone to their face to unlock. I think I'd find that annoying - especially if driving and I just need to check the latest on WAZE.

I have my X in a car mount that is adjacent to my face so I never have to hold it up to unlock it. It has worked out perfectly when driving. I always pick my music out first and then start Waze running and of curse with Waze running my screen never shuts off.

I would rather have Face ID. I’ve been using Face ID, since the X launched, and love it more than the Touch ID on my 7+. I haven’t had any issues unlocking my phone in the dark or while I’m wearing my glasses. For Apple Pay, I just double click the side home button, scan my face and then hold the phone up to the reader with the transaction going through quicker than with my 7+.

When AR becomes an everyday thing in Apps,Maos and games then we’ll need Face ID. Right now AR is years awAy and undersceen Touch would be nice or even having both would be great
In any case Apple has picked its direction and that’s the way we’re going like it or not

Quite frankly, I believe Face ID is the biometric security feature moving forward. It is more secure than fingerprints and the tech will only get better. I sat out this years iPhone X but plan to sell my 7 Plus and move up to the iPhone X replacement.

Just make dam sure my biometrics are not all over the Internet. :apple:

I'd prefer face id. However face id only works fine if I'm upright. Which of course through the course of the day I'm not always upright.

Touch ID works 99% of the time and it's quick.
