Would you rather have Touch ID under the screen or Face ID?

Apple is probably as good of a company as any when it comes to privacy and security, They aren't perfect, but I can't think of any other brand that does it better.

Apple is the _only_ company in the smart phone industry that exceeds beyond why most ‘Tech’ companies will exemplify for top tier biometric security. Aside from the consumer protection, There is a reason law enforcement invests millions in their iPhones for agencies to protect their sensitive data.

I’m guessing we see improvements in both speed and angle of use for Face ID this year, but I’m struggling to see where else the iPhone could improve upon last years phone, and I don’t own a X. It seems that good still.

TID worked all the time...

Really? You never had it fail once? TouchID fails when it's hot and you have slight moisture on your fingers, if it's raining, or if you have just washed your hands. And it doesn't work with gloves.

Whilst I acknowledge it won't be everybody's experience I work with my hands and my finger prints are not in the best of condition, they're often dry and cracked. TouchID fails for me several times per day.

I'm due a phone upgrade this year (still rocking a 5s) so I'm really looking forward to FaceID. I expect that in my case it will be superior to Touch.

Touch ID works in more situations than Face ID but that’s why we need both. For when one fails the other picks up the slack.

“We” Don’t need both biometric options. What the consumer needs is the most reliable form of biometric security and secure. That should be the imperative point moving forward, I think Apple has chosen that with Face ID and given touch ID is very good, Face ID is the future.

FaceID all the way. It works regardless of whether your hands are clean or dirty and the only times I've had it not work for me are pretty much when there's a super bright background behind me.

Personally I’m still dubious about the health implications of Face ID on one’s eyes - I’m certain many will call me paranoid but it’s my choice to make and I’m going to avoid it as long as possible in the hope Apple might find something new or add under screen fingerprint scanning as a separate option in the future.

Apple chose the cheaper/easier option to implement. Underscreen scanning technology is in its infancy, it would have taken a big investment of cash and resources on apple’s part to build a solution up to the standard of TID 2 ready for the end of last year. By contrast, acquiring RealFace gave them a huge leg up in making FaceID.

Touch ID hands down, not least because of the convenience, you can use it at any angle. Apple have implemented a replacement with Face ID but taken several steps back on the convenience, and then charge a huge price for it.

While convenience may have taken a hit doesn’t knowing your phone is more secure negate that?

So you have to look at your phone to get in to it, not really a big deal is it since you have to look at it to interact.

Touch ID 1 was a little hit and miss for me, Touch ID 2 is basically a hit every time...

100% agree, we don’t need both at all. Why would any company implement a new more secure method of security on their product only to leave on the old less secure entry method? That doesn’t make sense.

The huge price has nothing to do with Face ID though

Fingerprint has the same security. But never mind, there are situation I use my my phone and not look at it, for example when I make a voice note.

Only advantage I see with Face-ID is that it's cheaper. But looking at the iPhone X price I wonder why a high price phone went for that cheaper option.

I like FaceID, but I can definitely say I end up entering my pin code way more now than I ever had to with touchID.

I think because a lot of the time I'm not square on with my phones display, ie, its flat on the table, or to the side on a charger

What increase in security? Apple may have sold it as that, but their are plenty of reports of twins or other family members unlocking it! It’s pointless if has to take time to learn your face but during that time it’s open to abuse. I’ll stick with a Touch ID.

They are currently as the system is only on a 999 device. You are paying for new technology that isn’t as good as the one it’s replacing. Yet.

If I recall, a few days after Touch ID was released it had been cracked by someone using plasticine and another using latex gloves! Touch ID is not infallible nor is Face ID.

While it is true twins or family members have indeed been “reported” to have fooled Face ID I haven’t heard a single report of a stranger doing so and there have been many try.

The fact is, Face ID is more secure.

Apple provided some stats for this on stage during the keynote.

Face ID. By the time you line up where to place your finger on the screen, Face ID would already be unlocked and ready to go. Anytime you can remove the need for physical input, it's a good thing.

With FaceID's current release, I much prefer TouchID. TouchID was way more reliable for me. Although my success rate has increased, I am still failing on a daily basis where TouchID never failed in the same situations. FaceID will only get better, but I wish we got both bio-metric options until FaceID was good enough to replace TouchID. Currently, in my opinion, it is not.
