So a phone has to have a colorful back to be interesting?
It's a flagship iPhone not priced over 1000 dollars and it actually looks cool. That's a start. There's nothing remotely new or interesting to me about the Xs or Max. There's almost zero chance I'll ever spend more on a phone than on a MacBook Pro, and that's doubly true when it brings nothing new to the table.

It is not a flagship phone. It has one of the worst screen resolutions of any phone recently especially with that size. It has a worse camera too. Phones have reached the maximum potential. Not sure what you would want but it’s biggest feature is the extra color options.

It's one of their 3 flagships and it's the one that by far is going to sell the most. And one of its biggest features is the ability to do dual sims, which is why the phone is going to sell a ton in China whereas the Xs and Xs Max have floundered terribly there. Also has a battery life that bests any other iPhone, which is far more important than PPI or resolution on a tiny screen. lol who gives a **** about that when MBP and iPad Pros all have worse PPI than this phone.

Not when you can pick up an Android phone with the same features with a better resolution screen for less. It has the worst screen ratio of any new iPhone released in the last 3 years with the exception of the SE. remember the X has better ratio then the axe and is a smaller phone. Of course it’s going to sell the most, it’s the cheapest. Which is its main selling point. It certainly isn’t the LCD screen or the camera. 2 features that sell phones in America and Europe.

It isn't the cheapest. The main selling point is it isn't over 1000 bucks yet has a great camera, processor, interesting colors, and the best battery life. And by all accounts so far, the screen looks great. Thus an interesting phone that comes closer to justifying its price than the Xs and Max.

Plenty of people are going to buy because it's LCD, especially as some cannot tolerate the PWM on Apples OLED.

It looks cool? lol. Most will cover the back of the phone with a non transparent case, anyway. Are you buying the phone for the front or the back? The only "interesting thing" I can see yet far is the more affordable price, and a device for those who struggle with the OLED PWM issue.

It has an inferior resolution to my Plus iPhone, so I don't see any point in "upgrading" to that. I'd love to spend less, but I will wait to see it, no doubt before forming a complete opinion.
At least the X/XS/Max bring better upgraded screens to the table, while admittedly expensive. Many such as myself do watch downloaded iTunes HD videos on a phone when out and about, as well as on trips. Apps and games that are optimized for the higher resolution will be better as well.

The issues with China go further than the shallow representation you keep bringing here of "interest". A simple Youtube search will yield you those results. It's Apple in general that has been suffering there. One reason is due to electronic payment of Apple Pay being 1% of the usage there. The price gouging is stronger there, too.

Biggest point for me anyway is how reliably and smoothly iOS runs. Not the stuttering, freezing etc you see on Android. A better user experience, the apps all work better on iPhone.

Not this garbage again ? Have you used a modern Android phone lately ? That's not true whatsoever anymore.

A Pixel, or Note, or LG V phone from the past couple of years are rock solid. Smooth as butter. Apps work great. No freezing. And iOS just blows chunks anyways, it's the Fischer Price toy phone, with a screen that looks like someone left the app drawer open.

I will give Apple credit on making and designing beautiful hardware. The iPhone XS Max is a great looking phone, and the size is near perfect, and the rounded shape very comfortable. The A12 is a beast and best. But iOS ugh. The best smartphone ever would be the iPhone XS Max, running Lineage 16.0 ROM.

I can think of a few people that have way more subscribers then this guy and are also idiots.

Yeah that video was disappointing and I tend to watch LTT videos every now and then. But it is what it is.

Better off with an even cheaper 8 or 8+. Both have better screen ratios and no notch. Most people will buy them because they are cheap not because they are interesting.

I might buy one for the A12 if I don’t get an Xs....

Outside of offering different colors, the RX doesn't offer much outside a smaller screen and a lower resolution. If one sees the XS Max as boring, I don't really see the XR as being really different.

Good news is our viewpoints are subjective and what truly matters is whether or not the customer is happy with his or her phone.

I am a big fan of Linus, but this review of the iPhone was so unfair and don't understand how such a reputable Youtuber gives such a hateful review?. I've had my Xs Max for a few weeks now and I am still impressed by it.

He said there is hardly any difference between X and Xs, well I bought Xs Max and it is a massive difference. And Linus, as PC users like me know, is a massive benchmark guy. The iPhone outperforms any other phone out there in terms of benchmarks, it is head and shoulders above even the closest competitor - Samsung. It's not even a competition. Why doesn't he address this?

He says the design is too similar, barring Xs Max, what about last two rounds of Samsung phones?

He complains about real estate on screen size? I prefer xs max, no bottom lip, and higher screen to body ratio.

He complains about Apple display being crap about thick bezels on xs. But the bezels and frame are much thicker on Note 9? What? And in terms of quality, I would say iPhone Xs Max is probably the second best screen on the market after Samsung's own.

Biggest point for me anyway is how reliably and smoothly iOS runs. Not the stuttering, freezing etc you see on Android. A better user experience, the apps all work better on iPhone.

Fair complains are headphone dongle maybe, and price definitively, it costs Apple £300 ish to produce xs max so it could be a bit cheaper.

The notch is not ideal, but it is the best. Only when watching videos it is a problem, and you get watch the whole video or enlarge it to full screen with the notch. After using the Xs Max, I would prefer this over the top and bottom chin of Samsung. And have you seen the number of manufacturers copying the notch now? Clearly it's selling s*** loads, so people are buying it.
You sound like you have taken this way too personally.

I bought the X last year. I bought Max this year. I returned it and used the regular Xs instead. Then I returned that and stuck with my X.

The Xs was far too similar to the X, with the only noticeable differences being the camera and the speakers. Face ID was literally the exact same. I held them side-by-side against each other and stared directly in between. They unlocked at the exact same time, every time.

It’s funny that you mentioned stuttering, because that was the final straw that made me give up on it:

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/iphone-xs-momentary-stuttering-after-inactivity.2141542/

And it seems like the stuttering issue is still not addressed or resolved.

The real cringe is the comments in this thread. Any kind of criticisms towards apple, regardless of how true it is, is met with so much whining and complaining followed by petty insults.

Linus has more credibility than most of the biased members moaning about the bad review their favourite company got. What's sad is this; cheerleading for a company that doesn't care about you.... for a COMPANY, lol.

I would agree "unfair" is a proper word. A lot of what he said is flat out factually wrong.

Note 9 "it's got a bigger screen." Strike 1, smaller than the Max. 6.4" vs 6.5".

Note 9 has dual SIM, and for the iphone "not even dual SIM on this model." Strike 2, completely fails to bother to mention it does with e-sim which most major carriers will be supporting. Put your main number on the esim and free sim slot.

PS China Max models HAVE dual physical SIMs despite an incorrect comment earlier in this thread too; please at least Google your facts first. From Apple's own support page https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT209086 "In mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macau, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR feature Dual SIM with two nano-SIM cards."

At LEAST be factually correct and read the damn spec sheet if you're going to "review" a product.

Subjective stuff:

It looks "dated" lol. Coming from the 150 other Android phones with notches AND huge chins too. Ridiculous biased comment. And considering the Note 9 looks like the 8 (and like the 7 just moving the fingerprint to the back), its more "dated" a design by years than the X/XS.

Can't reach the top. Annnnnnnd that .1" diagonal difference in screen size makes it easier on the Note 9 for their notification shade and toggle? Lol. Again, clearly biased and a nonsense comment.

The rest, Google rah rah. Sure, at least Apple isnt back door logging into your settings to change screen settings or tracking you even after you turned it off. So yes, Id take Siri over Google assistant any day.

What credibility? Criticism is fine. It's not about criticism, it's a very biased review slanted towards Android, clearly.
It's not like a fair playing field at that. Linus is notorious for his disdain towards Apple.

Who cares what *one* Youtuber’ thinks? There are hundreds of authentic reviews praising the XS, there will always be a negative review against an Apple device. One persons view shouldn’t influence the majority, the user makes the decision of their experience with the iPhone for themself. For the record, the iPhone XS has stellar scores across the board in performance and camera results.
