The only thing that interests me iPad wise at this point is a refreshed/redesigned iPad mini.

The iPad Pros currently have difficulty just reaching full potential. The hardware is already beyond any competition tablet wise, but the apps are seriously lacking compared to their laptop counterparts. Diminishing returns etc - Apple needs to focus more on "pro" apps.

Only one reason I disagree with October. They miss back to school by ONE month. Look at their latest 'what's a computer' ad campaigns. (let's not get into whether it can replace a laptop or not, different discussion). Sometimes I wonder if kids entering Uni in 2018 even know how to use OSX/WIN10. They've grown up on iOs.

THat's the only reason I think a WWDC release is imminent. If not WWDC purchase, then at least an announcement with shipping in September in time for college. They'd be leaving too much money on the table. Could be fine if a student steps up to an Air or a MBP but, if they step DOWN to the basic iPad that's a problem. As far as iOS 12, last years pros were released without iOS11 except for the reviewers and tech blogs who had a beta.

Just a few days more. The speculation and discussion in fun though.

I really hope youre right actually, Im one of those students heading back to college in Sept 2018 and looking for a new IPP for note taking and general computing. Either way I will probably just buy whatever is current when they launch their back to school deal so I can get some free beats (or whatever they offer this year), if it comes in October it would be too late for me anyway, oh well I guess the current gen pros are not exactly bad devices :p but the thought of face ID on the IPP is exciting.

With no proof or inside info whatsoever I see a WWDC announcement for 3 things. Current 10.5 and 12.9 stay the same with beefed up internals. A new 'X' tweener size, new chassis, edge to edge is announced .. perhaps 11.3? New pencil. Better keyboard. FaceID. The 'perfect' sized mobile / student computing device as long as you're not doing any heavy lifting. All 3 ship September 1. That would be a 'little more than a year after WWDC 2017' (Bloomberg rumor) and just at the end of Q3 (ming rumor). If it's going to be October they do get the Christmas shopping season but lose out completely on the students. Just one month ? They can speed things up a bit to hit Sep 1. Otherwise may as well wait until march 2019.

Yep agree with everything you said, back to school is pretty big and if theyre serious about pushing it as a laptop replacement and not just a media consumption device theres no reason to miss the back to school market and hit the holiday season, so if they have it ready they should just launch it.

I just had Tweet Exchange with one of the famous Apple Analyst Tim Bajarin he writes for PC Magazine and Time Magazine and many other reputed Magazines, he is saying Apple would want to take advantage of the Back to School Period, so he does not see the iPad Pro 2018 being announced at WWDC he says we will see the iPad Pro 2018 hitting the Market sometime early part of September, to take advantage of the Back to School Time Period.

that's contradictory. announced and hitting the market are two different things. They can announce at WWDC and deliver early September. This way they get the back to school crowd AND with the announcement, stop people from buying something else. Either way, we'll know soon. Good info. Thanks

That would be a long wait and cost business surely?

If they announce next week but no release until September I'm not buying an ipad now. Isn't this what happened with IP8, people waited until the X costing them sales.

If no announcement the I'm probably getting the 10.5".

Apple wants to sell discounted last years models to students and then release the new ones on late September & October.

More and More Tech Site authors are saying they have a hunch the iPad Pro is slated for a fall release, Benjamin Mayo of 9to5mac.com is also saying he does not feel it is getting announced @ WWDC he is saying I can bet on it for a fall release :(

It’s fun to speculate but at the end of the day it’s an electronic gadget, not the end of the world. Pretty sure everyone can wait a few months.

Cost them sales on the 8, but gained on the X right? Which is arguably better. More expensive phone plus a new designed product. They could boast about demand.

If they don’t announce I’m not sure that converts to sales on the 10.5/12.9. Students especially would know to read the tech sites and see what’s in the pipeline. And if it’s ovtober there’s now some fairly decent windows hybrids that are also great for a student. Surface Pro, thinkpad etc.

God knows. So many permutations and frankly every argument for or against has its merits. I’ll take a break till the 5th, log in here and see what ended up happening.

I guess I’m just a little confused by the people that will upgrade strictly for a bezeless display.

For me, it would be the removal of the home button making it worth an upgrade. The current Pro doesn’t even have the same button as the iPhone 8 (solid glass with haptic feedback instead of physical button). Coming from my iPhone, it feels slow and clunky.

Face ID is perfect for the iPad. With a phone, I am already holding it in such a way that my thumb is near the button. iPad is not held the same way, as my hands on along the sides. I have to make a concerted effort to unlock my iPad. Face ID alone would be worth an upgrade.

I totally agree. Face ID would be better suited to Ipad Pro. Hopefully they find a way to make it scan vertical or horizontal.

That’s pretty much a given. Rumors, code in iOS etc. no other way faceid works on an iPad. Either one module that scans both ways or two , one portrait the other landscape.

The Jetblack iPhone 7 got me hooked on the AC+ naked device philosophy. I think it’s funny how so many people buy these pretty phones and then they “need” the fugly otter box cases and then don’t want AppleCare...like wut is that logic o_O
They want an iPhone with the most recently features at the cheapest cost to them. Many jobs would require adequate protection. :)

I personally prefer minimalistic case like an Apple Leather.

EDIT: I thought thread was about iPhone. Lol forgot my post. Haha.

Now I’m thinking my wild card for WWDC is an iPod Touch/iPad mini replacement if Pros are set for a design change and they’re gonna wait until the fall. I can’t believe there isn’t room or need for such a device in the lineup and they both are long in the tooth.

I find that hard to believe considering if they don’t give Macs the 8th gen chips now they forfiet back to school entirely let alone a iPad Pro chip refresh. I don’t buy it this time, it wouldn’t make since. He also says the Face ID iPad is coming later, I agree but still expect a chip refresh to the current models.
Could be the ultimate psy ops by Apple to preserve the 'one more thing' mystique. I agree with you 100%

I guess it makes sense..release in September so people will want to buy one for the school year-holiday season I dont mind waiting as long as its a awesome iPad!

Apple won't need two 3d camera for portait and landscape faceid usage. It is all software. Something to do so people upgrade to version 2.

Is it really? So theoretically the current X could get the same thing? Not that I need it. Have no reason or use case to unlock a mobile phone horizontally.
