What extra feature would you add to the Xs max for the 500 to be worth it?!

Ps the difference is not really 500 is it?! You chose to go for higher storage capacity which costs more. Comparing spec to spec on the lowest range is about 350.

If comparing XR 128 to XS Max 256, and one only really needs 128 but 64 isnt cutting it... you're looking at $800 vs $1250

$450 difference, add in tax, the ~$500 figure isnt too far off as a ballpark figure

Isn’t that an unfair comparison though?! Given the difference in storage capacity?! Spec by spec comparison needs to be equals but yeah I get it that there’s no 128GB for the Xs. In that case I guess we can deduct the price of the extra memory from the total to have a fair comparison.

I dont think so but depends on the storage needs. for 64 users, it is unfair comparison.

I’m comparing the 256gb max vs the 128gb xr b/c I bought the 128gb xr to try out. I couldn’t get anyone to buy the max sooooo.

Features for the extra 500... I say if it could drive my car for me lol I’d be worth the 500 haha It would be hard to use the 64gb phone that I use for music and photos. I have like 40gb of songs and Pubg, and locally stored podcast. My 8 plus was 64 and you have to constantly manage the storage. 128gb is the sweet spot inmho. I say that because I had a 256gb plus before....

I use my phone daily for Calendar management, watching movies and shows, podcasts, music, social media, web browsing, paying for stuff, communication with friends and family, emails, numerous apps for bill management, banking, stock trading...etc...

I paid $1100 for my iPhone X and will keep it for 2 years

$1100/730 days = $1.50 per day..... now you tell me if having a device which does all of those things is worth paying $1.50 per day

and mind you I am not factoring in the $400 or so dollars that I will be able to sell the phone for once I am done with it.

I think the question is more of do you regret spending $1.50/day on a phone when you could have gotten one for $0.75/day (or less), that does everything you mentioned. Or kept your old phone another year for free assuming it still met your needs. Like you, I went high (XS) because I wanted the best camera to snap all my toddler’s little life moments with and because I had my previous 6S for three years and felt an upgrade was reasonable at this time.

That's a fair question, and yeah I would obviously prefer to pay less for a device that can do all of those things as well. But unfortunately this is the market that we as consumers have set for flagship smart phones. It's our fault because these manufacturers continue to push the boundary on the prices and we continue to pay it. So while I am content with the what i am paying within the context of return, I do concede that paying less would be preferable.

I don’t budget on a daily basis but why stop there. Let’s convert to minutes lol. To be honest I hadn’t paid for an iPhone besides the first one. And the X. Subsidies were the good days especially if you knew how to avoid the 40 a line charges.

Apple launches during holidays. Always wait for a deal. Use a cc that gets a discount. Sams club gave me 300. Chase ink gives me 5 percent. Veterans discount another 15 percent on carrier. Apple may even be an option now with their veterans discount. Before, it was best to avoid buying from apple.

Still I believe in buying few things but nice things. It’ll be years before I want a new iPhone. Sadly I can’t apply that same logic to the new iPad pros. Even 20percent off is not enough which I can easily get. I’m a sucker for tech but it’s hard to get behind this Liquid Retina crap and now apple seems to think bent iPads are ok.

If I dropped $1,000 all at once on my Xs, I probably would have some initial sticker shock. I'm on IUP, so it makes it a bit more easier to swallow. Plus, my iPhone is used everyday, so it certainly makes the purchase easier to justify.

Ultimately, no regrets here.

I was responding to a post that broke the cost down to a daily amount. I felt they answered the wrong question by only justifying their purchase of a smartphone. I’m reading the OP’s question as “do you regret spending $1k+ on a phone when it offers no real additional capabilities over a cheaper option”, so it’s the incremental cost difference between the two options that one could potentially regret. You’re absolutely right that it can be minimized by smart shopping.

As for the new iPad Pros, now I see why they didn’t cut the price of the old 10.5”, demand might not drop as much as it typically does for older models and ‘ole Timmy likes his high margins...

Or are you happy with your purchase? Love to hear your thoughts.

No. I use my phone pretty much all day every day. Easy to justify always having the latest/greatest.

What I regret, is spending $1000/month on a car. Which I use for less hours per day.

You should spend your money on where you spend your time. For example, you should never go cheap on your mattress.

No.

I have a friend who spends £150 per month for membership of a prestige gym and health club. To him, it’s worth it. He loves to go, he loves the social aspect etc etc. I find the gym to be a horrible experience and a total chore. So I jog around the park listening to music or an audio book and do muscle exercises in the comfort and privacy of my own home.

You can’t take money with you when you die, so spend it on things you want and don’t judge others for making different choices.

I wanted to upgrade my X, but kept putting it off due to the price. I’m glad I waited. Once I broke the habit of upgrading yearly, I don’t feel the need to upgrade any longer. My current phone does everything I need and I have other interests that I could spend the money on (beer brewing, drone etc.).

I have an XS Max.

Every once in a while, the XS Max will appear to be a little too big, especially with the Apple leather case on it. When I'm hiking, this problem is solved with the Apple Watch's cellular connectivity.

The screen is great. I wondered if I'd be able to tell the difference between my Android's 1440p and the iPhone's 1080p, but I can't tell enough of a difference to want to carry the Android play phone.

Also, it seems to me we are still discovering things on the XS and XS Max. It seems to be just the other day that we discovered the eSIM functionality and started playing with that.

It's a very powerful device. It is certainly powerful enough that I will hit the field without a second thought for having left behind the MacBook.

It's the best thing going right now, it seems to me.

Of course, that's just one dumb old man's opinion. :)

I said I would keep the iPhone X for a couple of years, just like you. But when the XS Max arrived, I couldn't help myself.

I have groaned about the price occasionally, but the upgrade from the 8+ to the iPhone XS Max has been really good. The screen is excellent, battery life remains great, gestures are natural, camera is nice as well.

I got a Gold Xs Max 256GB for $950 through my carrier so I'm happy as can be holding that big boy for under a grand:) And since I tend to keep such devices until the end of their useful lives that's all the more reason to be OK with the price charged vs. other alternatives. I'm not even one to buy "flagship" with this kind of stuff (in fact will usually buy for a deal just as the new years' versions come out) but this was THE phone I have wanted Apple to build, so when they finally did I figured I owed them the business:D

Yep... I had wanted wireless charging and no home button FOREVER... The iPhone Xs was THE iPhone I was waiting for!!!

The XS is worth it over an X if you have T-mobile since the X doesn’t support their new 600mhz network. The XS does so for future proofing wise it is.

Yep, I plan on keeping my Xs at least 3 years. As a T-Mobile customer, this phone has everything I want and need.

Best phone I've ever owned and well worth it!!!
