- The only other game that I have played on there is World of Warcraft and it ran flawlessly.

- I regained control by doing (command+option+delete) and force close the game.

- I am using a Razer mouse (drivers are not available for my model but it has worked fine so far...)

Based on your thoughts I will try to see if it works without my Razer mouse... Thanks a lot for the input. Let me know if you have any other ideas.

Just a thought. It may be worth downloading the 10.8.3 combo updater and running it. I've found this approach can often fix unexplained glitches.

Downloading it now ^^^

So to add to this issue... I downloaded the game to my 2012 MBP retina and the SAME THING is happening??? How is it that I am having this issue on two different computers but it is working fine for everyone else?

Update: I downloaded the update and it still isn't working.

:( that the combo update didn't do the trick.

 that you're having identical issues with 2 different (officially supported) machine. That's gotta be a clue, right there. Maybe a third-party extension or something else that you install on all your machines as a matter of course is causing the conflict.

Do you have any crash logs in the console app? Probably in ~/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports

No - that is one thing that tech support guy mentioned in the email is that the file I sent him did not indicate any crash reports.

I also made sure that every program was closed and not running in the background when I tried the game. It baffles me that I am having this issue on two different machines. I wish their tech support was open on the weekend!

Edit: Could it be a wifi issue with my router somehow?

----------

SOLUTION: So I tethered my MBP to my iPhone and used my LTE connection and the game did NOT crash.... So somehow my Wifi/Router is causing the game to crash. How can this be? I am using a brand new Cisco N router.

Thanks for the help!

Wow, that's bizzarre... Still, you should be able to play now. Hopefully Feral will be able to suggest something permanent as a fix.

Your ISP may be rewriting some HTTP lookup that XCom is making, in order to provide you with better service, JK.

Another possibility is that XCom is unhappy with something DNSey, you could try setting your DNS to Google (8.8.8.8) .

The last thing that comes to mind is that XCom somehow is happier with CGNat or IPv6, two technologies that are more common with cellular.

That makes me wonder if it is even the game or if it is the App Store DRM having a problem connecting due to some incompatibility with the router or its settings. In any case, I'd return the router personally if you can rather than waste any more hours of your life being frustrated with this. I went with Apple's router which is more expensive than many but then it is also a better router that for example, has not once crashed or required a reset in a year of constant use now. I have never owned a router this good. It was worth it.

Now the game is crashing every 20 minutes or so with a "program quit unexpectedly" error lol. Fun game but annoying crashes!

I spoke with them on the phone and they said they don't have any answers yet but are looking into it.

Sounds like a specific issue with how you setup users as we have a few thousand users at least and we only have a few minor issues reported.

Don't worry we are investigating your specific issue but please make sure you mention your router work around solution in the follow up email, it could well be something the AppSTore is doing without our knowledge.

We should be able to sort out your issues as they sound specific to your setup not any specific hardware. If you PM me your details like email I can make sure we coordinate your comments in the forums with your personal support.

Cheers,

Edwin

Is anyone having an issue with the game freezing? I have the newest 2012 iMac with the 680MX i7 etc... and the game freezes about 30 seconds after opening, regardless of what I am doing in the game. I have tried rebooting and everything is up to date...

I have the same spec as you, as well as fusion drive. I use wired network connection than wifi. I played the first mission this morning and all went fine before I had to go to work.

Personally, if I was in your situation, I'd do a time machine backup, then do a full OS X reinstall from USB and restore from time machine.

Let us know how you go

But considering I am having the same issue on two different computers...

You could have done something on both computers without realising it. By reinstalling, it may fix whatever may be causing it. It's up to you if you want to give it a go.

But considering I am having the same issue on two different computers...

That points to a specific user setup issue from my experience. Don't know what it is yet but as many users have the same hardware and no problems and you have the same issue on two different bits of hardware then it points to something similar between the machines, it's unlikely to be internet related so that leaves the user accounts and setup.

I have your PM and I have spoken to the support guys. I will have a dig through the crash logs and have a chat with some of my fellow developers and see what we can see.

We have a 1.0.1 update planned with a few tweaks and windowing improvements plus anything the community has reported. We will have a two pronged attack on your issue, first can we find out what you are doing to make it crash, two can we modify the game so even if it is launched on a strange setup it will handle the problem gracefully.

If you have further updates please feel free to send me a DM or email support.

Edwin

Just tested on the rMBP15 and it's working fine there too

Great to hear you guys are monitoring the forums.

I just hope that each update doesn't require a full 13GB+ download again.

Also a suggestion, can the save games save on cloud storage?

We did that on Sega Racing for MAS customers using iCloud as the save games are rather small and you can only have a couple. We will see if the save games are small enough to work with that again but I can't say for sure.

As for updates we have offered small delta updates for years now, Apples automated system has had a few issues (we have no control over Mac AppStore updates or how they work). However from reports and testing I think Apple's delta updates should work fine now.

On the 17" 2010 Macbook Pro I am getting ~20fps @ 1280x800, lowest settings possible. Who comes up with these minimal system requirements, anyway.:D

I want to give this game a try but not sure about if I can run it or not.

My Mac Pro machine spec is in my sig but it is the graphic side of things that
I have a concern with.

On the App Store there is a list regarding the cards it DOES NOT work with and a list that tells you what cards need a certain a mount of memory.

My card is not listed in either list so I assume I will be OK - ATI Radeon HD6870 XFX

Yes you are fine, if your graphics is NOT on the list of unsupported cards you are supported, simples!

In fact on your graphics card the game will play on nice and shiny high settings :)

Can anyone comment on HD4000 (8gb RAM) performance?

I *really* want to pick up this game, but it's a big cost to incur on something I don't know I can run.

I wish publishers would release free "system check" demo's of games. I'm certain i'd up end buying more games. As it is, I've had too many poor experiences with Mac gaming to really bother these days.
