Can anyone comment on HD4000 (8gb RAM) performance?

I *really* want to pick up this game, but it's a big cost to incur on something I don't know I can run.

I wish publishers would release free "system check" demo's of games. I'm certain i'd up end buying more games. As it is, I've had too many poor experiences with Mac gaming to really bother these days.

It performs great, if you don't think so after purchasing just request a refund, I doubt you will :)

All Feral games the min specs are tested and set so you can play the game smoothly all the way though from start to stop. I can't comment on other games companies but I know all games I have worked on at Feral (all of them) we always if anything set the min spec a little high to guarantee people have a good experience on all machines that make the spec.

The HD4000 is a pretty weak card but it still can play on medium settings and a medium resolution.

Not much of a computer gamer, but I wanted to test my new 27 iMac and it's tearing right through the game. Even though I was hesitant to buy this game, I went ahead and purchased to support Mac gaming and Feral. I'm through the first couple of boards and the game runs great. I feel like I'm being lead by the hand a little but I'm sure that changes as I learn the controls and strategies.

Thanks again and it's great to have Feral's presence in their game's threads as well.

There is an option to skip the opening tutorial missions, I recommend the tutorial missions the first time round but you can skip them the second time.

No problem, emailing support will always get you to a real human being who has played our games but we also sweep the forums and answer stuff that crops up :)

Cheers,

Edwin

I believe that is the retina MBP setup and it works great!

Nova, anytime you have that question, head over to GameAgent. We have a nifty feature called "MacMatch" that will tell you if your system meets the requirements for any game, and that certainly includes XCOM. We also try to focus on the latest and greatest on the GameAgent blog, so check out our interview with Feral's Mary Goodden here.

Also kuddos to our friends over at Feral for a job well done! XCOM is a great game, and as usual Feral did a stellar job on the port. I'm playing it on my HD4000 at my desk, and the game runs just fine :apple:

The MacMatch is pretty much useless. Intel HD3000 is marked as green on games like Borderlands 2, even though it's borderline playable.

It also doesn't support graphics cards like GTX285 which was a never sold in any default Mac Pros, but was sold as a third party offering for Mac Pros by apple. It's still a pretty common card for Mac Pros. It also says a game that requires a 1.8 Ghz Core Duo will have issues on a 1.7GHz 3rd Gen i5, even though a 3rd gen i5 at that speed would most likely be head to head with a 3Ghz Core 2 Duo in pretty much all tasks.

The mac match is pretty much only comparing your system reqs to what the devs decide that they feel is appropriate, and I am pretty capable on reading system reqs myself. I often find myself, more often than not, disagreeing about the playability of a certain game, even though requirements are met.
To play Borderlands 2 remotely enjoyable on intel HD3000 you need to drop everything to the lowest and you still get under 30 FPS a lot of the time.

Don't get me wrong, the BL2 port for Mac OS is remarkably good, the Intel HD3000 is just not up to the task. I cannot talk about XCOM tho, since I only own the Win version, but turn based strategy can be enjoyed at fairly low FPS, shooters however cannot.

Agreed. I just wish for the time when games will run in OS X equally as well as they do in Windows. Performance of my 17" 2010 Macbook Pro is getting slaughtered in OS X, even by older titles.

Thanks very much Edwin, I hope Feral recognise the great job you are doing :)

Edwin,

Any chance that there will be a demo for the Mac? I've looked into the game and it does look interesting but don't know if I'd spend $50 on a game that I wouldn't normally play. I see it has
great reviews but again it's not in my genre of games that I would normally play.

Hopefully a demo might be coming soon?

Does anyone know if this game is playable with just the trackpad and keyboard? I know its probably possible but if the experience is like playing an FPS with a trackpad then ill take that as a no. Ive never played it before but it looks like something that could be. Is it anything like Civ 5?

I purchased a hard copy fron Feral a few days ago and I keep waiting for it to drop through my letter box which I do appreciate would be a fews day. We are now into a holiday weekend, so no post for three days.

Is there not a way I can download a copy via the Feral site to save the wait other than cancel the hard copy and buy digital ?

I have looked but see no way to do this.

Ordered on 1st May email states sent out in 2 days, order still being processed :(

Thanks.

I would believe that it would work great with trackpad and keys.
I have not tried that (mostly due to my MBA really aint that great for gaming), but I have played loads of XCOM.
The game is pretty much point and click, where you move the guys around in a grid on the map.

Plays great with the Magic trackpad and keyboard. Just make sure you have the right-click touch bottom right-corner configured.

This is great game but the developers made the environment to monotonous, for example American police cars and cabs litter the Aussie cityscape.

It's the same in Birmingham (UK) too. I'll forgive them, though, because at least they got the weather right... ;)

Maybe just maybe in the time that this is meant to be which I assume is the future they assume the US would have taken over the world long before the aliens :D

If a single nation were to take over, it would probably be China, ala Firefly.

What version is this game on at the moment, I ask because I have seen v1.0 running on a very very similar spec machine to what I have here and it freezes for moments of time like upto a minute or so then carries on and at some points there are two mouse pointers.

I appreciate it was only released towards the end of last month but some games get updates pretty quick these days.

Still 1.0. It's never frozen on me, but I did see two pointers a while ago. Haven't noticed it recently.

But considering I am having the same issue on two different computers...

Did you get your issues resolved ?

I ask because I know somebody with all the freezing delay issues with similar specs to what I have, he is just willing to sit back and await updates. I have a hard copy on order which has not been sent out yet.

When I see them ask you to backup your drive then reinstall OS I get a bit concerned, you should not need to do this to get a game running.

Im off to cancel my order :(
