Reports are already surfacing of a classic annual tradition in iPhone land - the dumping of yellow tinted reject screens on unsuspecting consumers.

This happens literally every year, since the iPhone 3G. Every. Year. without fail. Same tint. Same excuses from Apple apologists.

The fact is, not all iPhone 12 screens will be the same tint. Some will be more yellow/worse than others.

Weather or not you believe, as I do, that Apple intentionally relaxes tolerances to maximize yield for launch, here is what you can do:

The Test

The test is to open the Settings screen, with True Tone off, and dark mode off, 75% brightness. Compare to another phone on exact same settings. Which one is more yellow?

What to compare to

It probably already looks different than your old phone, which is why you are here. Something seems "off" about the new display. Compare to old phone. Yellow? Proceed to next step.

Compare to an Apple Display Phone

Use the same test criteria to compare to an Apple display phone. It either matches or it doesn't. If it doesn't, RETURN THE PHONE IMMEDIATELY.

Even the most blind Apple fanboi can admit - if it doesn't match the display phone, it must be defective.

The Kicker

On Launch day, some if not all Display phones will also be yellow. Invariably, within 4 days of launch, they will all be swapped for pristine, 100% non yellow phones. Swear to god as my witness. 100% chance they will be swapped.

If your yellow phone matches a display phone on day 1, wait a week. Then compare. Doesn't match? RETURN THE PHONE.

Only you can stop Apple from dumping low grade panels on the masses.

Thank you.

EDIT TO ADD:

Examples of good, non tinted screens have been showing up in the thread. Here is one that was recently posted:
View attachment 1678642

All of these are iPhone 12's, and one of them has a screen that is displaying content as it should. This is not an intentional warming, a move to 6500k white point, glue, or any other myth. This is a physical yellow, green, or pink tint layer that distorts all colors, wastes out text, reduces contrast, and looks terrible.

Also, don't post the color filters hack, it doesn't actually work. It puts a layer of color between you and the screen, reducing brightness, and distorting other colors. You shouldn't have to solve for a yellow tint, so just take the phone back - reject it.

Finally, Apple isn't calibrating these screens, the suppliers are. Apple tells the suppliers the tolerance range it will accept. Those seem to be extra loose this year. So send a message that you want good QC by sending your phone back.

12 pro max at day 1, definitely more yellow than my 11 pro max and with a green tint in the off axis.

The day after I order another one model and I asked for a replacement: within the return period you will receive a brand new phone as a replacement, no wait box.

both model will arriva in a week or 2.
Let’s hope at least one would be perfect.

if not I will ask for another replacement for both because the return window is still until January, 20.

the big problem will be the shipment:
Now we’re on 3-4 weeks for the delivery.

if Apple fix this with a software update, i will tattoo myself with the Apple logo. It is a hardware issue, and if they fix it 100x100 with software, they are just genius

Does anyone else here have a G9Q panel?

It is the one that my iPhone carries and compared to my girlfriend's which is a G9N it is identical.

While it may be a hardware issue, Apple can help the situation by building in more display adjustments, to allow people more freedom to adjust to their liking. It won’t help any brightness issues but it can help with green/yellow tints, if they do it right.

So im paying more than 1000€ for a brand new phone that i have to trick with color adjusts ? XDXD this is crazy. Way to go is return the phone and make Apple see how they lose millions of dollars, but if people keep just conforming with color configs lmao

Finally my 3rd 12 Pro Max replacement unit today is uniform blue matches the same screen colour as my iPhone 11 Pro and Macbook air 2019......

First phone arrived with yellow screen true tone turned off with a dust under camera lens....

Second phone arrived with scratches on the side of the phone screen had a couple of dead pixels on the screen...

Third phone arrive everything perfect...

Apple Quality control is shocking
Pics or it didn't happen.

Depends. Some are bad yes, and I agree they need replacing. But others, like mine, have full brightness and no green tint, but are more yellow than my 11 pro Max. Its like setting your TV to Warm 1 vs Neutral. It’s nowhere near extreme enough to want to replace, but to my eye, the extra yellow tint is very noticeable. I have found a happy spot using the Hue slider but more adjustments would definitely help.

I had to adjust my TV to fit my viewing preferences on day one. I didn’t like the way it looked out of the box. Should I have returned it? No. I just went in and adjusted the color temp and a couple other settings and it now look phenomenal. Apple needs to add color temp and maybe some others and they would solve many of these issues(not all by any stretch but many).

The first 12P was terrible. Yellow tint and the black flickering.

The 12PM was bought directly at Apple Store in Stuttgart (Germany). The flickering is still there, but much more better compared to my first 12pro. The rest is almost perfect to me. The 12P was sent back and I got my money back already.

I am still on thinking if I will stay with the size of Max. But more and more I beeing accustom with it. I will see, I have time until friday.

I couldn't find what does the display code means, one of you still have the link to the post?

SN of 12PM = F2LDK
SN of my Display = G9N03

Thanks for stating this better than I could have. I still don't understand how people can believe that only hardware can fix this or that Apple will issue a hardware fix for this, when a simple OS setting can alleviate this and has been used by TVs, monitors etc. for decades to change their screen's color temperature. All Apple has to do is implement it in iOS.

Of course, knowing Apple I highly doubt they'd do that either though.

if you think that just a simply OS setting can fix this, i hope i get customers like you when i develop a product. The display have phisical and building limitations and after the display is out of Samsung going to assambly with an pretty iPhone, you cant fix those limitations. But keep talking with no idea, if you are happy lying yourself thinking that Apple can fix hardware issues with magic updates XD

I am shour that the temperature of the color could be adjust by the SW but only if you have the good display.

The first 12Pro tht I had was so much more terribly compared to the 12ProMax that also if the color temperatur will be adjust to more blue I can't believe that it will helps completly, mayb a bit.
