I can confirm warmer tone is intentional not an hardware defect, as you can see with True Tone, screen can be way cooler than without in certain lights conditions. (12pm)

Yes this is exactly my issue. Could you turn off auto brightness on both and post another photo please? It’s it still as noticeable?
If you turn AB off, it will fix the situation. But you can’t use your phone with AB off, so it’s not a great idea to ask somebody to do that. It’s probably the same ALS failure others have. His might be a bit severe.

interesting this video
Great video and test! it is obvious that the display has problems with the color representation, maybe a calibration problem or hardware issue

Would be interesting what DisplayMate would say to this results.

Edit:
I've wrote an E-mail to DisplayMate and asked them for their opinion to all these issues known for the 12 iphone series. Can't believe that they saying the iPhone 12 Pro Max has the best display. Better they say, it could be the best display, if you get one ;)

This is not a confirmation; this is how TT works. This is the way it was designed. You’re just showing up to the party a little late.
In certain lighting conditions, TT will make the screen “warmer” than standard and in certain other lighting conditions TT will make the screen “Cooler” than standard. That is how it’s intended to function ever since it was designed years ago.

TT has nothing to do with the baseline, original tint of the display; instead, it is a function of the ambient light sensor.
(It doesn’t change based upon current screen tint, it changes the tint based upon what the ambient light sensor tells it to change.)
Analogy: It’s like driving your car on a highway with cruise control on. The wheels of your car don’t spin based upon the slope of a highway, they spin at a rate based upon what the engine tells them to spin.
If someone tried to convince you that your wheels are spinning because of the slope in the road, that would be an inaccurate statement.

I have had numerous iPhones, dating back to the iPhone 4 that have had yellow screens and several that have had cool vibrant screens. My launch iPhone 12 Regular has a cool, vibrant, color popping display.
Please stop with the gibberish that Apple has intended on “Warmer” displays. That is simply a bogus statement and hypothesis.

Well I got a second Pro Max from Amazon and eagerly set it up.

Previous 12 Pro MaxNew 12 Pro Max
Production Week42 (12.10 - 18.10)47 (16.11 - 22.11)
FactoryF2L - China, Zhengzhou - FoxconnG0N - China, Shanghai

True tone off, auto-brightness off, the displays are virtually indistinguishable (i.e. both yellow). The new one is a tiny bit less bright, almost unnoticeably so. Neither suffers from the raised blacks issue.

I’m really bummed out. I’ve compared them to an iPad Air 3, a MacBook Pro early 2020 and an iPhone 8 Plus. Those are also really close to each other (the 8 Plus being the warmest of the bunch), but also all much cooler than the 12 Pros.
The 12 Pros with true tone off are about the same as the iPad with true tone on (under fairly warm light). It’s ludicrous.

Sigh. I’m definitely not getting an Apple product at launch again.

Screen issues will happen throughout the production. I've never gotten a launch day device (well except the 5c) and have had many screen issues. The 5s' I got all had screen issues except for the very first one I got that I exchanged because of a button issue.... boy that was a big lesson learned about the screen lottery: never got a good screen ever again.

my year old gold 7 was immaculate (except for one corner of screen was unseated about 1/4 mmmm)

my black 7 I got a year ago has absolute **** screen.

So don't give up on launch day products.... it's might just be a bigger problem than simply because of unpracticed production.

I wonder if anyone who bought from a carrier has been able to return past the 14 day period ?

The only reason I bought mine from TMobile ( and not directly thru Apple ) was the amazing trade in deals!

Today i received the replacement device. The panel is better than the previous. Without TT it almost same as bright/white as my 11pro so i'm pretty satified. No green tint.

Serial start with F2L, the preious (recieved on day 1 was G0ND)

In the off axis it more neutral (a little tendence towards green) while the 11 PM became noticeably blue.

So i agree that at this round the TT is very more aggressive.

There are some situation where the 12PM with the TT on is fairly less yellow than 11PM in the same condition.

Anyway, i think this will be my keeper.

I bought the 4,5,6,7,X on launch day or two weeks after launch day and all of them had perfect screens except the 12 pro. To say I was dissatisfied would be an understatement.

There is a certain degree of variance allowed in manufacturing. And I’m pretty sure with prolonged usage, the difference will decrease as the yellow ones become less yellow over time.
So you are stating exactly what we’ve been saying?

here’s the difference-the variation is the yellow tint.

Do some research in this very thread. You’ll find 12s with zero yellow tint, perfect colors, and screens that exactly match prior years apple phones.

those are the correct ones. The yellow ones are the defects. 100%

Nope. Tons of examples of 12s with correct screens. I added one to the Op. go check it out.
Yelllow=defect

yellow, you mean: yellow without TT? My second unit is good, a very very bit more yellow than 11PM, but overall good in white.

with TT on... very bad.

don’t won’t to ask for another change, I think I will keep this, hoping that the True Tone become less aggressive with the next update.

I mean lets be real here, even the ONE guy that has posted that his screen is perfect (that you linked in the OP) NEVER came back to post a picture of the models with TT OFF. All his pictures where with TT on. (And some posters here have shown that with some trick you can make TT behave differently.)
All other posters that say they have perfect screens only provide a picture of their singular phone next to nothing to compare against, which is pointless.

I don't believe in the good screens until I see a genuine post with TT off, NS off, and Color tint off. When we get multiple posts with picture of these good screens, I would be inclined to say that there are perfect good screens out there. So far, ALL of them seem to be yellow.

Agreed. I find it hard to believe that all 4 Pro Maxes I received were warm and Faulty. 4/4?! If there are ANY white ones out there, they’re rarer than Gold.

I have done, and I don’t believe it. It would be better to have a photo with the display accommodations screen to prove they’re not on. True Tone/night mode could also be on the other models.

Even if they’re out there the level of complaint, and the 3 iPhone 12s I’ve had indicates yellow = normal.
