The used 11 Pro that I bought after I returned the 12 Pro has a much better screen than the 12 Pro, but still yellower than my wife’s XS.

Last year’s thread died down after the everyone who noticed the issue went into two groups: the settlers and the people who returned them for good. Unfortunately the same will happen this year while Apple will continue to be radio silent on the topic. They’re hoping the settlers and the users who don’t even notice the issue (I envy them) will be the largest group. The only thing that will make them act and take this seriously is a significant increase in the volume of returns.
Sadly, I traded in my near perfect 11PM (after two exchanges), so if I don’t win the screen lottery on my first express replacement in December or January I will be one of the settlers.

I mean lets be real here, even the ONE guy that has posted that his screen is perfect (that you linked in the OP) NEVER came back to post a picture of the models with TT OFF. All his pictures where with TT on. (And some posters here have shown that with some trick you can make TT behave differently.)
All other posters that say they have perfect screens only provide a picture of their singular phone next to nothing to compare against, which is pointless.

I don't believe in the good screens until I see a genuine post with TT off, NS off, and Color tint off. When we get multiple posts with picture of these good screens, I would be inclined to say that there are perfect good screens out there. So far, ALL of them seem to be yellow.

I believe also that the it should be possible for Apple to add an adjustment feature.
My suggestion to Apple, to allowed the users a regulation of the color temperature change when TT is in. It would be enough to could adjust low/middle/high.

See on attachment comparison between MacBockPro 16" and iPhone 12 Pro Max. First picture shows TT on both devices on. Second picture on both devices TT off.

Sory for the angle but if the lens of the iphone SE2020 get the light direct of the two displays, then the color complety not how it looks with your own eyes. In this angle I could catch the pictures how it realy looks for me , almost.

Monday I will received my second 12 Pro, then I could compare again this 12PM to it. First 12 Pro was so much worse that I had returned it to apple. The size of the max is still not pleasant to me.

But what I read here, it seems no chanche given to get a good Samsung display in a 12 Pro.

Went to apple and picked up a new 12PM Black 256. This one is a keeper. Definitely the screen is warmer very slightly and TT needs to be toned down. Howeverwhen at full brightness, it is more white than the XS max (weird). The improvement from the one I returned is better captured with the naked eye, I could tell right away. Colors also pop more (see blue slide bar on the new vs the one I returned) Cameras don’t do the trick, but I’m attaching a comparison. Unfortunately, I don’t have the fist 12PM, I returned it as it was upsetting to even see it. This new one has met my expectations so far.

good luck to all of you searching a better device.

Tip: ENSURE YOU HAVE TT and NS OFF WHEN VIEWING IMAGES ON THIS FORUM. Otherwise, you may not see the diff.

I don’t see any difference with TT on the XS max.

Got iPhone 12 mini few weeks ago and compared to iPhone X (OLED) and Xr (IPS) I noticed that white balance is more accurate and TrueTone matches ambient light better. But sometimes I felt that 12 mini white/gray color is slightly off. I went to several Apple and 3rd party stores which had iPhones on display and compared visually to mine. All of them were about the same as mine with small variations in colors. Difference with previous iPhone models were much bigger than variations inside 12 model line. Also I compared 12 mini with calibrated Eizo display and noticed green tint on grey background. Eizo was set to 160cd/m² and iPhone was visually set to match brightness.
Today did measurements and can confirm in more scientific way my observations.

Measured iPhone 12 mini with DisplayCAL, i1 Display Pro and RGB OLED Samsung spectral correction. TrueTone and NightShift are both off. To achieve maximum brightness I turned off in Accessibility settings auto brightness. With auto brightness turned on maximum measured was 530cd/m², with turned off was 630cd/m². That can explain why display models in stores looks brighter than your personal devices. In Apple Store and most 3rd party stores display models have auto brightness turned off (I checked about about 20 devices in different stores).

TLDR: iPhone 12 mini display is very accurate between 250cd/m² and maximum brightness. DeltaE less than 1.0 considered as not visible to human eye. With brightness lower than 200cd/m² grey and white color get some green tint. White balance is calibrated very well and within range 6487-6529K (depends on brightness level).
iPhone X and Xr both looked more blueish compared to 12 mini, but 12 mini is more color accurate.

Thanks for the data- I wonder if Apple purposefully cranked the green at a lower brightness to offset color issues from the ceramic display.

I think no. Get perfect white and gray balance across all brightness levels are quite difficult. Usually professional displays are calibrated for one brightness level. If you change brightness level, you need calibrate again. Apple is trying to get best color profile for widest range of brightness.

I see everyone talking about buying and returning a lot of times. Does anyone know at what point your account gets banned for excessive returns ? My 12 Pro Max and the one that was supposed to be for my wife has this issue. If I return these two and buy another set and those end up being bad as well, did I ass out ?

Looks like you were lucky and received a good unit. Other screenshots on this thread show weaker red and blues which highlights even more the green.

Green tint is visible with low brightness. 160cd/m² is more or less okay, below 120cd/m² got noticeable. Especially if compare with calibrated display. My point was that my iPhone isn't very different from others, which I saw as display models.

I didn't expect to get so low DeltaE. Only one black patch had DeltaE=4.6. Gamma is around 2.14, which could be better. Anyway I'm happy with my device.

I think it might be a misconfiguration/calibration/initialization of True tone, where something has been left hanging even when it is off. Saw a post on reddit about quickly toggle true tone on/off many many times under bright light. If I recall correctly the comments didn't give it lot of traction and we don't have much bright light here at this time of year, so I didn't pay too much attention. But experiencing True tone fading between blue/yellow in dark room without light changes and since I am out of my return window and in the mercy of Apple to fix it with software or acknowledge a hardware problem, I gave it a try. And sure enough, it really does seem to have removed the yellow tint when True Tone is off. I am still cautiously about saying it is fixed, but it has now lasted the whole day in various light conditions, without feeling nauseating or unpleasent, not least at low brightness in dark environment.

edit: found the reddit thread
I have now been using it for 3 three days and yellow tint or nausiness has not returned. That is without using True Tone. The few times I enabled it, it was in low light and it felt too warm. Finally I am enjoying my phone. Just amazed that Apple is not moving with bigger urgency on this matter. It seems like a simple software fix (although they may have over complicated it with AI), which could save a lot of pain and money.

Apple is aware of the issue and you can verify this by Googleing ‘Apple iPhone 12 pro max display issues’
After spending almost an hour with a senior tech support associate and a manager I was Told that an update would be out shortly that will address this issue
Call, Call Call make them aware you are having the problem too!!!
There is no fix or work around in this forum

Yes there is. Just above. It's a true tone related problem and I think the reason so few reviewers experience it, is they are exposing it for bright studio light or sunshine and unknowingly fixing it.

I think your unit is nearly perfect 👌

Received my 12 Pro Max the other day and quite disappointed with how yellow the screen looks. Not normally one to care too much about this type of thing but its very noticeable, especially when viewed side by side with my XS Max. I think I might try and get it swapped.

Your only going to either get the same, worse or pot luck better, with a few attempts

Wait till this is addressed by Apple then take it from there.
