123 pages... not a single statement. GG Apple.
They really want to be new Nokia.

I would not expect a statement from Apple or anticipate Apple going the way of Nokia. However, let the Apple executive team know how frustrated you are with the display quality, color temperature, and brightness issues. Emails sent to tcook@apple.com are read. Perhaps, if everyone on this forum thread writes, the display situation will get noticed.

The “warmer” tone makes all the pictures/videos look yellowish, was watching Defending Jacob on  tv side by side on my iPhone 12 pro max and Samsung oled tv, everything on the iPhone looked yellow and if it’s pleasing to the eye 👁 maybe they “Apple” should give an option to the user whether they want their eyes pleased or not.

Apple should allow us to adjust the white balance like Samsung does on their phones. It would increase customer satisfaction while reducing the cost of processing returns and exchanges from customers looking for a display with the “right” color temperature.

+1
Slider with 3-4 positions, it is easy and efficient.
But only if this is SW issue.

Does this tell anyone anything, were phones made in September known to have display issues ?

Mine was bought from Apple Canada online.

I don’t want to stir the pot here or anything but clearly Apple intentionally made the display warmer for the 12?

I had a 12 then a 12 mini now getting another 12 tomorrow (returned previous 2 as couldn’t make my mind up on which size I preferred) and they both had noticeably warmer displays than my XS. That doesn’t mean there’s anything wrong with them, they just made the displays a warmer colour temp and they’ve been gradually doing this since the iPhone 7 from what I can remember.

people using language like Apple need to fix the problem/issue. Maybe there isn’t an issue, it’s just a subjective thing? Some people like cooler displays and there’s nothing wrong with that at all. If you don’t like it you don’t like it. But just because you don’t like it doesn’t mean there’s anything wrong with it.

Just adding my thoughts please don’t rip my head off.

To be fair when I got my current 12PM it was more yellow compared to my 11PM however, I have noticed that the 12PM has actually become less yellow in the two weeks I’ve had it. I still had the 11PM until yesterday for comparison. There’s no way that I buy into the glue drying theory though.

Valid argument and I think at this point everyone in this thread thought about that, especially after receiving several replacement units that all look the same.
But then it would be good to hear something from apple like "Yes the displays are warmer, more yellow this year" and on the other hand, this does not explain why there are units out there that don't have this "yellow tint problem" (if it is a problem) and look the same to a Xs in comparison. But maybe the "cooler displays" are the defect ones this year, who knows 😄

How do you explain your 12 PM becoming whiter then?

I was at Target and later at the Apple Store yesterday and they were all various degrees of yellow, across all the iPhone 12 lineup. It has to be that most people are not sensible to it. I even asked the Apple Employee and he was having a hard time discerning what was obvious to me. If there is an issue, it has to be software. 90% of them can’t be defects.

Also, to the people calling for a TT slider in settings, that would not make sense. TT is designed to do 1 thing correctly, which is to match whites to your environment. Adding a slider implies that there are various degrees of “correct”. I don’t think Apple likes that.

I am increasingly feeling like I will return my phone. I can't get over the tint on the screen 90% of the time. Turning True Tone off renders the screen too cool. I just don't know what to do -- pick up another phone with the same issue likely? Wait it out?

edit: Will keep the phone and see if Apple offers a fix. Since the phone was purchased through BB, there is a $45 restocking fee...

On my Pro Max, I'm using these settings and the display looks perfect to my eyes, matches my LG 4k monitor very closely.

That said, I'd prefer not to use color filters on a new $1200+ iPhone ;)

I did this but the true tone is still very strong and it also decreases max brightness slightly.

This theory has been floated and debunked many times in this thread, including in the updated op.

Apple didn’t “make them warmer”. Apple doesn’t calibrate or make these displays. They gave specs to their supplier and those specs were way relaxed this year.

its way cheaper to make a screen with yellow film than to make a correct screen. Samsung is dumping its crap panels on Apple and Apple is allowing it.

we know there are good screens out there. So to believe that Apple is doing this intentionally is to believe the correct screens are defects. I don’t buy that.

btw people say this every year. That the yellow film is intentional. And every year good screens return roughly 6 weeks after launch. In the next two-four weeks we should see more correct screens.

Apple allows the dumping of these screens cause consumers don’t seem to care. Show them you won’t stand for it.

remember even 3rd party cheap replacement screens from an iPhone repair shop on the side of the road don’t allow for this poor qc. You will never find a replacement screen that has these issues. Think about that.

With everyone complaining about such a drastic change the iPhone 12 screens have now with the yellow/green tint, your rationale proves one of 2 points. Either Apple made a critical error on what they perceive with what their paying customers want OR Apple doesn’t care what their paying customers want.

I just received my iPhone 12 Pro Max and I notice the yellow cast/tint is very glaring, it's like some one pissed on my screen. I can't find the perfect filter settings to get pure white which is frustrating either. Hopefully I can get used to this yellow screen...
