Today one of my employees got I new 12 Pro Max. His screen was perfect compared to my iPhone X. His serial number started with G0ND and it was purchased on launch day. I don't think there is a correlation between serial numbers and defective screens.
I have a G0ND. I don’t consider it good. Raised blacks is the real issue. I am trying to get used to the more agressive TT. If I can’t I will swap it in early Jan.

Except for all the people when the XS came out that got yellow tinted low contrast screens.

are we getting it yet?
I'll be keeping my 12 for a while, but I'm hoping by the next time I upgrade (maybe iPhone 14/15?) Apple will be using microLED.

Seems OLED panels while pretty seem to have a lot more issues.

Yes I have very high hopes for mled

Are 11 pro max free of these yellow tint issues? I’m gonna return the 12 pro max definitely. Please help! :)

I am 100% sure that your phone has the raised blacks issue as it is software related and affects all of them. Please post proof at the lowest brightness in a dark room with the below YouTube video.

I’m also willing to bet it does have a gap somewhere around the edge. The tolerances are not tight enough and this will NOT be changed as there is a gap required for heat expansion and display replacements. You may not be able to see it but I guarantee if you run paper around all the edges and corners that it will go in at some point...
While I agree with the gaps, I have tested my replacement 12 multiple times over the last week in pitch black at 0% brightness, and it does not have the issue.

Serial DNQD, week 43. 3utools shows a (supposedly) LG display. I can try and get a video tonight.

Wouldn’t be surprised if the good panels are all LG. In the past, the LG lcds were usually the good ones. Samsung dumping low grade panels on a competitor doesn’t seem unreasonable.

That’s incredibly strange. Perhaps raised blacks is exclusive to the 12PM.

the raised blacks, along with True Tone being too aggressive are basically the only issues that can be fixed with software. For instance, when I was updating to 14.3 today there were NO raised blacks around the Apple logo unlike when you restart the phone so I know it’s possible and not a hardware defect. If you’re watching that video in horizontal full screen at max brightness in a room dark enough to notice I’m almost certain the display won’t be pure black.

I’d also appreciate if you could check for any colour tints (https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...m-warm-check-here-first.2262691/post-29390701) while you’re checking the raised blacks as it’s a hardware related issue but it seems the majority of phones exhibit it due to lower tolerances, bad displays etc.
In my case, the raised black issue was more noticeable on my first iPhone 12 PM than the second. With my first, you could see the raised black/green flickering with a brightness below 65%. Also, it showed a dimmed greenish screen when booting up around the apple logo. With my second, the only way to reproduce the raised black was when setting the brightness around 10% to 15%. Above 15%, I couldn't reproduce the raised blacks on pictures or videos. No green hollow around the apple logo when booting up.

Today, I had the chance to play with my employee's 12 Pro Max Graphite Color, SN starting with G0ND. His screen was identical to my iPhone X and no raised blacks at all.

I'm going to repost my post here from the raised black thread to answer this :

As myself I thought so that every iphone had it. My 12 Pro Max had it too ! And according to what I saw online and here I was sure every new iPhone had the problem. But then my friend ordered an iPhone 12 too. Omg it's screen was so good. No yellow tint at first like mine also had. Then I tried to compare mine with her Iphone 12 in a black room, same conditions, same settings, same low brithness, no TT, just the pure black YouTube video / or black mode setting screen. My 12 Pro Max was flickering as hell, with my friend's one next to it being... pure black. The difference was so clear. I tried to change the brithness, same results.

So, I instantly changed my mind. This raised black and flickering issue is a hardware deffect. I returned my iPhone. My friend's screen was just so good compared to mine, and really no deffect. Believe me I read everypost on this forum, I know phones and OLED, and I would have saw it if my friend's phone had it - just like I saw it on mine. But it didn't.

Now I just ordered a new iPhone 12 pro max. I hope it will be as good a my friend's one. But as of now I don't believe anymire that every iphone have this problem like I thought, because it's not true.

mine is similar - I only notice it on low levels. I wonder, did you play with it in an actually pitch black room? Reason why I ask is because when I initially tested mine in a semi dark room it was too light to notice the raised blacks and I thought my display was fine.
Yes, we did. For some reason, his phone didn't have a yellow tint or raise blacks. His iOS version was 14.2.1 and it was perfect.

I’m willing to bet the vast majority of iPhone 12’s exhibit raised blacks on 0% brightness. Your friend maybe just got lucky regarding the warm calibration. It’s almost certainly software as the panel is capable of displaying pure black as seen during iOS update process.
If it was software my friend would have had it. But believe me she didn't in any situation. I'd prefere a software problem. The only difference was mine was a Pro Max, her's was just a 12. Mine was glowing and flickering, her's was not in any conditions. My phone had the problem, and I really believe it's not software.

I can assure you this does not impact every iPhone, my F2LDN does not have the raised black issue at any brightness level, I've just tested again with that video in a pitch black room and confirmed.

My screen does have the yellow tint though. Same with the replacements I've tested but returned.

Same here. Perfect blacks but piss yellow. Mine is also a F2L. I am not even as upset about the yellow as much as I am about the how it affects the contrast. My screen looks so dull and viewing pictures on it is ****.
