Finally I had the chance to recover my IPhone X. Will be sticking to it for some few months and then will try again the screen lottery. Returning my last 12 pro max on Monday. Screens whites are night and day compared to my old X.
I know what you mean, but in comparison with my AppleWatch Series 6 and an iPad the effect is much more intensive. So I don't believe it is just the different enviroment light, which make it look more yellow or blue. That’s normal. When environment light is more blue, it will look more yellow and the opposite. True Tone is intended to compensate that, but iPhone 12s True Tone I tested is terribly aggressive in low light.
It’s probably because your screen with True Tone is very yellow. Can’t change to a more cool temp without True Tone however. That would be very strange. The yellow tint happened to me and ordered 5 pro max. All returned.I know what you mean, but in comparison with my AppleWatch Series 6 and an iPad the effect is much more intensive. No truetone is always off. It’s probably because your screen with True Tone is very yellow. Can’t change to a more cool temp without True Tone however. That would be very strange. The yellow tint happened to me and ordered 5 pro max. All returned.
Oh yes, that is what I wanted to say. Your screen, as a lot of them, is probably very yellow with True Tone off.No truetone is always off.
Yes, it is a little bit yellow /green. But why are colours shifting, even with trutone off. In comparison AppleWatch and iPad don't do it. That is the reason, why I don't think it is only different enviroment light, but rather a truetone bug.Oh yes, that is what I wanted to say. Your screen, as a lot of them, is probably very yellow with True Tone off.
I’ll say this much. With a very capable Xs, if something impresses me enough to consider an iPhone 13, it definitely will be after all this kind of smoke clears, including any iOS 15 smoke, because this hardware problem my friends, is a dumpster fire.
It’s a shame really. The iPhone 12 PM is otherwise perfect.I’ll say this much. With a very capable Xs, if something impresses me enough to consider an iPhone 13, it definitely will be after all this kind of smoke clears, including any iOS 15 smoke, because this hardware problem my friends, is a dumpster fire.
At this point I agree with you. I'm afraid this is how Apple decided for it to be this year. Perhaps it was a sourcing issue due to COVID. Or maybe they had to do it this way to keep their costs down. That's a fair point, but you could swing that the other way as well? You "think" Apple didn't intend this. I "think" Apple did. It's a fact, no matter which side you're on, that the 12 line of iPhones are more yellow (or "less white") than the previous models. The evidence to the contrary is so small compared to the mountain of evidence otherwise that I think that's a safe conclusion at this point.
If we want to get anecdotal, within my family alone, we've had two 12 Pro's, two Mini's, and two regular 12's. All from different retail sources, all ranging from the release date until this past week. Every single one of them has a screen that looks more yellow than previous models. You have reviewers and experts stating the same. You have "display experts" observing the same. And yet not one of them has jumped off this cliff stating it's some sort of chronic problem that needs a fix. It's just the way they did it this year, generally speaking.
My issue isn't the subjectivity of the matter, or whether or not there's a little inconsistency. My issue is, as someone else stated earlier, the "get your pitchforks out!" attitude of this thread from the start. The reason I think this is blown way out of proportion is because of the inherent nature in how a problem like this flows.
I think the majority of people complaining about the yellow screen simply have a phone designed as Apple intended it this year because that's what the evidence suggests to this point. The sensationalism of the beginning of this thread is what's pushed so many people to think this is a systemic problem rather than what was intended. Because of all of that, I think it's a small subset of users that truly have screen issues.
- Sensationalized post about yellow screens
- People get new phone and the screen looks more yellow to them
- They google it and find a thread like this and think, "omg me too!"
- Because essentially every iPhone 12 is like this, the forum "beast" feeds itself, perpetuating the hype
- In actuality, most people complaining about this "issue" have a phone that is simply less white because that's how Apple made them this year
In a few months if Apple comes out with some sort of recall, then I'll eat my words. But the more likely outcome will be one of two things. Either Apple will silently "address" this by tweaking True Tone to be a little less warm, addressing the "problem" for most people. Or people will simply stop comparing to their older/other phones and get used to it.
Sorry, that got way too long...
Not how they decided it to be despite many people looking to/wanting that to be the reason - it is an issue and they are defective devices (in terms of the display). Been to 3 stores, from 20+ phones across the whole range, only 2 had yellowing all others had perfect displays - yes compared with same settings, even brought an X, XS, 11, etc. Further, if you’ve ever had an OLED TV from LG, you know the yellowing is an issue, hardware one - plenty of threads online on it. If you exhibit the yellowing, LG no questions asked replaces the entire display as they are aware it is a hardware issue with the display and no calibration could have fixed it out of the factory or even if they attempt to calibrate. At this point I agree with you. I'm afraid this is how Apple decided for it to be this year. Perhaps it was a sourcing issue due to COVID. Or maybe they had to do it this way to keep their costs down.
I found it to be very noticeable even before comparing it to my iPhone X, and I don't know if I would ever get used to it. But I have an Apple gift card that almost completely covers the cost of the device, and I still have my Spigen case, so now here I am watching this thread trying to decide if I should order another 12 or if I should hang onto my X and wait for iPhone 13. It's just frustrating because that was the only negative thing about the 12 I returned. I liked everything else about it.
How have they let you replace it so many times? Most stores would shut you down by now... or accept a return and not let you buy again.
Sends a clear message to Apple to tighten tolerance ranges.Crazy isn't it? I remember a few years ago when the OP started that year's yellow tint thread and he got people worked up in such a frenzy that one forum member exchanged his iPhone 23 times.
really? i didnt know that.... then it time to look for another SP then... but i m using catalyst influence casing, some SP just not compatible.A blue light filter filters blue light, thus making the screen even more yellow.
Where is the store locatedAt my local apple retailer, they removed all iPhone 12 from the shelves, the only remaining iPhones are the 11 !
🍌 🤣
How were they?is there a spreadsheet of serial numbers that are good screens / bad screens?
I have 5 12 pros coming tomorrow that I will be checking.
