Hello everyone , I am following the thread from the beginning, I have iPhone 12 PRO and it has both a yellow tint and a problem with black flickering. Today I spoke to a Senior Apple Technician once again, and the answer I got is like all of them: They know the problem of yellow tint screen and screen flickering / green tint of the screen, many users have already reported this, recommend waiting for the next update. Reading the entire thread, I quite strongly doubt this solution to the problem. Unfortunately, I cannot return it anymore. I wonder whether to try to return the phone under warranty and hope that they will do something about it?

same thing they said to me in Italy but I insisted and sent it to assistance .. I'm sure that they Will return me my iphone the same as before but I'm trying, I'll wait until February for a possible miraculous update and eventually I'll sell it

Yeah unless you talked to a real engineer I would take all that with a big fat grain of salt.
I'm hoping to be proven wrong though.
The next person I spoke to, told me exactly the opposite, that it doesn’t consume any more battery...
Also he mentioned that the next version of iOS will not change anything, since it’s the yellow hue is a feature....

Quite frankly, if colour filter really doesn’t impact battery life, it might be the right solution for me.
Whites are even more white than those on my Xr ...

I heard its hardware and they will start replacement program within 6 months meanwhile they will try to tweak software for example oneplus “fix” this by lowering minimum brightness by + 10% so you never get to the point when you see green screen

does using colour filters affect battery life?
Well, it does in case you end up turning brightness higher to compensate dimmer image using color filters causes.
Anyway, from what I have quickly tried those, they will f**k up the picture even more, you may get nicer white what you prefer but I'm not sure colors are right anymore since they look pretty weird with filter.

And if by magic ( curse ) I opened the new iphone 12 pro max and the frame is scratched out of the box . I literally opened box and peeled factory screen protector off to apply my own protector and saw the table lamp reflect of the areas in question. Albeit I carried on putting on the screen saver. I can't be bothered anymore. Least the screen is uniform and nice.
Does serial number happen to start with F1 in this unit?

At the beginning, they also suggested it to me, but later the technician said that it did not make much sense, the probability after replacing the screen or even the phone with another one does not give any guarantee that the next model will not have this issue. I hope you will share information when you receive your copy. I am disappointed with this phone

the technician told me too that it made no sense to send him to assistance and although I think he is right, I wanted to send him to assistance anyway because the more iPhones come back and the greater the probability that Apple will do something .. at least I hope ..

That user who kreps posting screenshots is simply trolling. Best to ignore and let it be.

We all understand that COVID might make lonlieness/mental illnesses/problematic behavior worse for some. However, for the purpose of seeking happiness and fulfilling ones personal needs for attention and validation there are better suited techniques. Intentonally frustrating other users and derailing an ongoing discussion in a forum thread on the color temperature of telephone screens does not lead to lasting happiness.

One can join the discussion or one can leave it be. Or one can continue to act like this which in all honesty only causes inconvenience for others, more than it really contributes to any positive effects for anyone.

If one has a need to simply talk to someone and be seen then there is a whole forum here where one can discuss most any topic one wants:

There are also the possibility of talking to people all over the internet in other sites. And believe me there are meaningful friendships to be had from that! And it also actually takes less effort than trolling here.

Good luck!

No, all the serial numbers started with G0ND.
I took your advice and ordered and just picked up another now. Same serial , all seems good so far. I did find a spec of imperfection above the volume up frame area but it’s acceptable to me. I’m closing my own case now lol 😂

can you post a pic with the old device?

I’m giving up with this. The only complaint I have with this phone is the display and it’s of course a huge issue, I have an iPhone 8 Plus previously and I always had LCD display and now with this OLED display I only have problems and neither Apple nor reseller store where I bought it is going to replace my phone they are always saying wait til next iOS update to fix those problems (yellow/green tinting, huge Oled black smearing when brightness at 50% or below) I hope this will be fixed with iOS 14.4.

Btw: Apple took my iPhone to repair and they returned it to me, they found no problem. The only thing they told me is the screen tinting that they will correct in the next update according to them

What screen tinting? 😂

I didn’t notice that quite frankly.
I compared the screen after applying the filter using both plain backgrounds and colourful photos and didn’t see any issue...

What is hardware, I assume the raise blacks / flickering, rather than the yellow tinge?

Look that weird black crush is hardware was never fix in oneplus pixel or Samsung and I highly doubt apple will magically change something :( I will keep my fingers crossed until end January and then if lockdowns are over I will visit apple store and try to replace...yellow tinge is indeed feature with True Tone its not that bad actually my whites are white and blueish

[no real content below, just sharing my experience]

4 more days .. before I request a return on my launch day 12 Pro Max.

Yellow/green from day one, frequently piss yellow/green.

On closer inspection it is looking simply ridiculous next to my new 2020 iMac, my most recent MacBook and iPad Pro, my daughters iPhone 11 Pro and even (or especially) next to my old XS Max which unfortunately I sold to a friend so I still see it occasionally.

And all this with TrueTone ON, yes, ON, as its a feature which I really enjoy on all other Apple devices. It makes whites look more natural for me, more like the whites of reflective white objects, which is what TrueTone is all about. But my 12 goes beyond making things look natural, again at least for me.

So I created an Apple Support ticket on day 5, had a visit to an Authorized Service provider on day 7. Yep, they agree, piss yellow, no debate. But they got instructions from Apple to not service my phone and tell me to wait for a iOS update. For me iOS 14.3 seems to have improved TrueTone going completely wild on some occasions, or maybe it’s my imagination.

Yet still multiple times a day I look at my phone and it looks simply ugly and bad, on its own, even more when close to another Apple device. Yellow, green, sometimes piss-yellow/green, washed out colors, weird whites, strange greens, strange grays. And the next moment, mostly outdoors or at least not in presence of much artificial light, it’s quite ok, or actually very good. What is this?

So yes, I can turn TrueTone OFF, but that looks even worse in artificial light, too cool, at least for me. And also it does not solve all yellow tinting. And I can play with color filters but somehow that never looks “right” for me in all conditions either.

And I like “yellow” displays. My TVs, even my trusted old Pioneer Plasma, they instantly go to calibrated mode, PURE mode, ISF mode. This gives them a “dull and yellow” looking appearance for some, for sure compared to their default modes. But I like the more natural appearance of these calibrated modes.

But the iPhone 12 Pro Max, no, sorry, something is wrong (for me).

I’m an Apple fanboy, got convinced ever since the original 9” Macintosh, a customer ever since. But I never had this happen to me before. I’m a bit surprised, confused, disappointed. Apple makes something that I really don’t like. That is a new feeling … :).

And my wife sees it as well, she was about to get a 12 to replace her old phone, but no way she says, no yellow phone for her. My friends see it as well. My kids same thing, saying that daddy has this new yellow phone, they have a good looking one from last year.

So, return this one then. And then? Enter the lottery, so keep buying new ones, returning them until I have a good one (if they are out there) or util I make it to October 2021 where I hope the 13 series will be better? Hope for iOS14.4+ to fix it? Buy an old phone to get me though 2021? Use the very old SE still lying round? Switch to the dark side?

I know, it's just a phone (albeit a yellow one…), so just settle for it, get on with my life, there are so many more important things, especially these days. All true.

But no, not yet.

And if anything, I really would like to know what Apple’s view is on this. I mean, trolling aside, there is something going on here with 5.5K postings in this thread, in other threads elsewhere and others (like DXO) reporting on the yellow cast (even with TT off). Is this bad quality control during a crazy COVID year, or a hw/sw bug, both understandable btw? Or is it by design?

Knowing Apple I find it hard to believe its quality control or a hw/sw bug, so if it’s by design, then … well … then I have a problem.

And knowing Apple, I also realize I will never know their view on this, there is too much stakeholder value at risk by being open about it, whichever is their view (quality, bug, feature).

4 more days …

see that’s exactly what I mean, they have no clue... don’t worry about battery life, either way the difference will not be significant

not entirely true, the battery usage depends on the brightness output, not the software brightness level. So if he increases the brightness to match the brightness without filter, it will not use more battery.
