$100 says the new one is an LG display.

Are you able to check the serial # using 3utools ?
From what I have read, all iPhone 12 mini and 12 Pro Max screens are made by Samsung. The 12 mini and 12 PM use On-Cell type displays whereas the 12 and 12 Pro use In-Cell displays. Here is the link:
This is what the article says:
"Samsung Display was the sole supplier of on-cell OLED panels for the iPhone 12 series __ the 5.1-inch iPhone 12 Mini and 6.7-inch iPhone 12 Pro Max used the method".

Is there a way to understand which panel I have, excluding the chinese website?

My 12 is noticeably warmer when in true tone compared to my 11, but without true tone is more comparable and only a tad warmer. I'm one of the rare few on MR who likes a warm display so I'm not complaining.

Interested. I've had 3 regular 12's. First was very warm with the raised blacks issue where the black wouldn't fully turn off at times. My last 2 have been less warm and zero raised blacks. I only learned how to check the display manufacturer on my last one that i currently have and it's made by LG.

Run sysdiagnose and transfer the logs via iTunes/Finder/AirDrop. Search for raw-panel-id or raw-panel-serial-number in files in the ioreg folder.

I cracked today and bought an iPhone SE. It was £100 off so hopefully if I do resell it in a few months time (when the 12 mini hopefully gets fixed), I won’t lose too much money.

Worst case this keeps me going until the iPhone 13 comes out later in the year. See you all then if that’s the case.

Did the same thing. Pretty happy with my choice. Screen calibration is much better and True Tone is actually usable, battery life is roughly the same and Touch ID is a great feature to have in the current environment. It works better in a case as well, the mini was quite a bit thicker using the same Spigen (Liquid Air) case. Probably because of the camera bump.

Also happy to have a white version where the anodized aluminium sides aren't colored. For some bizarre reason there is a slight pinkish tone to the aluminium sides of the white iPhone 12 mini, meaning it will show scratches just as all the other colors and unlike the bare aluminium of the SE and previous white/silver models.

The iPhone 12 mini is a vastly superior phone for most people / most use cases though. Only go for the swap if you care that much about display calibration (and/or prefer TouchID). Or go for an 11 if you're okay with a larger phone.

I have an iPhone X from work that I could pop my sim into, but it’s just too big. Can’t use it comfortably with one hand. 12 mini is the perfect size, but sadly I couldn’t live with a sub par screen. My iPhone 7 literally had a better screen when I compared photos with it too the mini

Anyone got recently 12 Pro (6.1") with G9N screen? I'm on my third and for the third time I got ****** G9P. Those are completely uneven tint and/or brightnss between upper and lower half of the screen. Very obvious when turning the phone to landscape position and comparing sides with different full screen white or light gray images.
All 3 ordered different time.

Other family member got the 12 Pro (same color) at the same time with my first (came in the same order too) and it is with G9N screen and it is very good and even tint. I'm getting tired of this battle. I guess I should order 5 pcs the same time instead of 1 at the time... :D

I received an iPhone with the good display on 5 January. It has a white display without True Tone switched on.

Is it G9N too? My bad G9P's are all white or bluish white without TT and it is not the problem here but uneven tint and brightness difference between upper/lower half of the screen.

Which factory yours is from (serial numbers first 2 characters)? Our all are F1's, even the good G9N.
Anyway from 3 bad G9P's in a row it looks to me that they are getting worse, the first one was the "best" of these and is the brightest, even brighter than good G9N.

When I first got my iPhone 12 about 3 weeks ago, I immediately noticed it had a yellow tint, without having another phone next to it. I just chalked this up to me needing to get used to OLED (I previously had an XR) and tried to live with it. 3 weeks later, I’m still not completely used to it and I don’t know why I didn’t do this earlier, but today, I decided to compare it to my wife’s iPhone 12 (see attached picture, hers is a few weeks older than mine). Mine is the one on the left. Both phones have auto brightness off, True Tone off, night shift off, and the brightness at 100%. Oh, and no color filters. In person, the yellow tint is even more apparent. Once you turn on True Tone and night shift, the difference is even more stark. Needless to say, it still bugs me a lot, even more now that I’ve seen it next to my wife’s phone.

I know this post is probably very redundant in this thread, but sifting though 242 pages of posts to find an answer got a bit tedious. Seeing how I’m out of the 14 day return window, should I still try to exchange it? Would it help if I bring my wife’s phone with me into an Apple store?

If that’s with True Tone and night shift both turned off, I’d be returning it ASAP, that’s way to yellow for my liking.

Shouldn’t be that yellow, reckon you got a faulty display.

Yeah, I was pretty shocked when I finally compared the phones side by side. I mean I already could tell it was yellow even when they weren’t side by side, I just didn’t realize it was that bad.

Anyway, I just found out all the Apple stores are still closed in my area so I don’t know if, how, or when I’ll be able to exchange it for another one. Any ideas?

Call apple, tell them your story, send them the photo, pretty sure they’ll tell you to send the phone back to them in the mail once you’ve received the replacement unit.

Interesting... my screen is whiter than both of them (12 mini), but it’s still 'warmer' than my wife’s iPhone X (both with True Tone turned off). Doesn’t bother me though, the difference is minuscule
