I agree with what you said .. my display is no longer yellow like the first day .. iphone 12 pro bought in november .. i am not used to it, i can assure you that it has improved a lot compared to before
I'm sorry but I don't believe you. It's the same every year, people get used to the calibration. The only way to really know would be by measuring the RGB values with a good colorimeter. Personally I can also tell by having a comparison with a freshly calibrated good quality monitor and see if the difference between the iPhone 12 and that monitor is still the same as in the beginning. Well, I can tell you it's exactly the same...the iPhone is still much greener, nothing at all has changed. Bought on release day.

Just like it's the same every year, there's a thread started about the new iPhones having yellower displays than the old ones. This one seems to be hanging on a little longer than the ones in the past, but like them, it will eventually fade away with no response from Apple about this "issue".

Honestly i don't even mind the warmer whites. It's the warmer dark mode that i don't like. Makes the dark mode look brownish grey.

Hi everyone, so I thought I'd share my anecdotal take on the situation.

I had a launch day iPhone 12 Pro in silver and noticed a very yellow screen and a lower contrast compared to my 11 Pro, as well as fitting issues where the glass meets the stainless steel giving off a "peeling off" sort of look. In addition, I found scratches and dings all around the stainless steel out the box. It bothered me to no end but I figured it was normal since I noticed the same thing in the Apple store display units. The whole device just seemed not as premium when held in the hand and was disappointing but thought it was normal.

However, my sister ordered a new iPhone 12 Pro and the device seems much better built. The tolerance between where the glass meets the metal doesn't have that peeling issue. The screen has a much better white point, and what's more strange is that her device boots up much quicker than mine and doesn't have that weird gray glow during boot up. The device was manufactured in week 2 of January.

I then ordered a new iPhone of the exact same configuration (iPhone 12 Pro Silver) thinking that manufacturing has been quietly improved and fixed and when I got the device my hypothesis seemed validated. The device had no peeling my other device did and the white point was leaps and bounds better than looking at a piss yellow screen in my old launch day phone, and the contrast on the new display is gorgeous even better than my LG OLED TV. My older phone also had a weird green gradient on top which was gone as well, and what's even weirder is that battery life seems to be way better with this device (though that could just be due to a whole host of other variables). Another thing that alluded to a better build was that when I used my old phone outside there would be a weird reflection on the screen almost like there was a gap between the glass and the display that was warping the light. Also a lot of dust had accumulated where the glass meets the metal due to the looser tolerances but this one did not have the same problem. This was not an issue on my new device. This was manufactured week 3 of January.

I don't have pictures to compare the two since I have already sold the old iPhone since it was outside my return period and there was no way I was going back to that poorly built device after seeing a properly built device.

Now it may be a stretch but I think what happened is that Apple rushed out deliveries of the iPhone 12s during launch which led to lower QA on these devices, due to high volume of orders and the stress COVID had on manufacturing lines. Apple then addressed these issues later in production which included yellow screens and tighter tolerances. I think Apple should be more transparent about fixing these issues rather than addressing these quietly but I sort of understand it since having to replace the millions of iPhones they sold with new phones would be costly and not a difference everyone would notice.

If you guys are having issues with your phones you should try asking for an exchange since the newer ones seem to solve all these issues specifically ones manufactured in 2021. I understand this may not be possible for everyone but good to know nonetheless.

Once again, I’ve been using my phone at full brightness for a couple weeks. My phone was yellow and it’s not anymore, I’m comparing it to a color accurate monitor. While it’s not a perfect match it’s within 5%, where before it was way off. Try this because Apple is not going to send out a fix.

Damn full brightness for 2 weeks. Maybe it would be easier to put it at full brightness in a drawer for a couple nights while you're sleeping.

with or without true tone?
with or without auto brightness?

IMHO too risky for the burn in

I did without True Tone and without auto brightness. It sucks we have to do this but Apple is not fixing these phones.

good for you if it fixed the tint!
Have you read this fix somewhere?

can you make a comparison with another iphone (11/XS) to have an idea of how much is it now?

Damn I guess you don't use your phone while laying in bed before going to sleep.... Even like 5% brightness burns my retinas in that environment lol.

iPhone 12 Pro Max next to 11 pro max.

I cropped the top of the image because of the overhead lighting. 12 pro on left

thank you! still a bit warmer but not so much as stock device probably.
I owned a 11 pro max and befoe selling i compared it many times with 12.
The difference was day and night.

Another question. You just use the phone with the max brightness for 2 weeks when you need to use it, without forcing the device to stay on, correct?

Don’t bother doing this, wasting your time, the screen didn’t go from yellow to a cooler color, after a short period of time your eyes adapt to the warmer tones, you’ll only be blinding yourself and killing your battery by doing this.

My wife's phone was noticeably "yellow" when she bought it, unfortunately due to Covid there were no phones on display where she picked it up.

She noticed right away but we had to wait a week to get into an Apple shop that had physical display devices to compare it to, and it IS definitely more yellow than other 12's (Around D62) with True Tone turned on it's around D57, nightshift brings it to around D54. All the above are uncomfortably warm.

We sent it back to service a couple of days ago and they have claimed they "cannot replicate the issue". The is bugging the living crap out of her coming from an iPhone 8.

Why the hell can the screens not be calibrated neutrally UNTIL True Tone / Nightshift is turned on (e.g white screen = a white piece of paper side by side).

Let's get over the ridiculous glue theory.
If you damage your eye, Apple Care won't replace it.
