I compared brightness and it was similar, as it was panel uniformity (all 4 not uniform with the right side darker). Demo units are set up with True Tone off and auto brightness off

Is the PM warm, as in to the touch? If the device gets hot it dims the screen as a temperature control method. I almost returned a phone and an iPad as the screens were noticeably dimmer than the devices they were replacing...... only for them both to go back to comparable brightness when they stopped restoring and cooled down.
This is likely what’s happening. I actually returned the PM and picked up another pro (the PM was too big for me) and I’ve noticed the same thing with this phone.
But it’s been restoring for most of the afternoon and it’s gotten pretty hot.
I’ll see what happens after tomorrow.

Odd. Just checked it again and now it looks completely uniform. Only difference I can think of is I had the phone on MagSafe while driving and using it for maps yesterday

Please compare brightness as well 🙏
I will, but it’s still not going to be a reliable way to determine the peak brightness of each panel. As has been said on this thread many times, iOS “intelligently” changes the maximum user-adjustable value on the fly all day long based on thermal headroom and other environmental factors. The “real” peak brightness only happens when auto brightness is on and exposed to direct sunlight on a cool day.

I have compared my phone in store before and noticed a small but appreciable difference in brightness, usually with the display phone being brighter, but for all I know it could just be that the demo fork of iOS allows them to crank it all day and show off or something.

I think I’d truly lose my mind if I had multiple subjective and/or observational metrics by which I was grading each phone I got. Brightness peak? Brightness uniformity? Usually good enough from panel to panel unless you *really* get in your own head about it.

White point, however, is shouting in my face every second I use a phone. If I somehow manage to adjust, I get thrown off again the second I use my calibrated monitor for editing and the cycle restarts whereby my iPhone looks like piss.

In light display mode, my 12 Pro looks yellow compared to the new 13 Pro Max.

The 13 Pro Max definitely has a cooler screen. Even with True Tone on.

But, in dark display mode with night mode enabled…the 12 Pro looks better.

Check this out…12 Pro on the left and 13 Pro Max on the right.

Now, it doesn’t look pink in person, it actually looks darker which is what I immediately noticed…but this comparison picture is insane.

I’ve added more pictures.

13 Pro Max by itself. And then 12 Pro next to 13 Pro Max.

It doesn’t look as pink by itself…

Apple offered to replace my device, they wanted a courier to come pick it up, then for me to go to a apple store to pick up the new phone, said no chance that’s happening.

Also no stock at the moment, 5 week wait, only gold models available, said ABSOLUTELY NOT!!! 😂

Told them I’ll replace my phone in store, they said nope due to restrictions, told them my store said it’s fine as long as apple support give them the ok.

Said they’ll get back to me with further instructions regarding my replacement.

Might just keep this piece of crap that I’ve got, most likely end up with the same crap again.

What do you reckon Limey red tint Bastid? 🤔😂

Wait! Did I miss it or something? Are you talking about replacing your iPhone 13?

Not happy with my display, got a feeling they’re all the same though, not sure if I want to go through the headaches of playing the screen lottery game. 🤦‍♂️
How can I check if my iPhone is brighter or not, 🤨?
Don’t do it, if you see that it’s not brighter your OCD will go into overdrive. 😂

I put mine next to a iPhone 11 /12 pro max, set the brightness on all of them with Siri, same settings, mine was dimmer, plus the other phones looked more vibrant compared to mine. 😔

If you do go through with it, let me know how you go please. 🙃😁😂

But I wouldn’t do it, you’ll end up upset like me lol.

Everyone, a big update! I just received my 13 mini this morning and it's in the process of setting up. Immediately, I can tell that I have FINALLY received a great screen. It looks "normal" to me - no weird hue, no washed out contrast, no off-axis extreme color shifts. It's what we all expect an iPhone screen to look like.

I tried 4 times with the 12 mini to get a good screen and did not have success, all were returned and I went back to my X. There were also several on this forum wondering if anyone had received a mini with a great screen...to my knowledge, all the 12 minis had some sort of issue to them.

This screen is better than the X, no question. Obviously the new phone will be put through the paces to make sure everything else checks out, but after a year of waiting I have finally seen a mini with a good screen on it!
Just following up here - I have now used it for 48 hours. The screen is of a much higher quality than any 12 mini I interacted with last year. With True Tone off, the display is extremely neutral and meets expectations of what “normal” for an iPhone is. It’s also brighter and more vibrant than last year, with no issues off-axis with color shifting.

The True Tone is more extreme than my old X or my iPad Mini 5. It’s sometimes more yellow, sometimes more blue-tint. Apple clearly turned up the intensity of this effect last year and kept it this year.

So, my conclusion - there were legitimate issues with the display quality last year that, combined with the True Tone adjustment, made for an unacceptable experience for some users. My anecdotal experience with the 13 mini (my unit + the Best Buy display unit) seems to show that the screens are now fixed, but the True Tone remains. I am satisfied and will keep it. Apple can and should make True Tone intensity adjustable like it does Night Shift.

And with that, I can finally sign out of this thread for good!

Return it and reorder it the normal way. You’ll just have to suck it up with the wait time. That’s what I’m doing now. I booked an appointment with apple store for this Friday. Since walk ins around me are not welcome. 🤣 I’ll then carry on pestering you with my uniform S21u OLEAD panel and order another iPhone 13PM when stock becomes available. This time I’ll order it for pickup in store and open the box to check for frame damage before leaving. Bonus being we can then continue on the thread that her royal highness @TheYayAreaLiving created. 😅

A little worried about him. I can’t believe he’s going through a returning process of the device already 🤦‍
He’s got ocd massive. I believe he’s claiming that the 13 isn’t as bright as the 11 or 12 for the given brightness level slider. His testing principal is flawed because they are two different panels in the first place. Plus he’s not use a light meter for results.
