Not all the screens are bad. Look at the BTO Shipping Thread, there are hundreds of people posting in that thread, it's already over 40 pages. Very few of those individuals are posting in this thread because their machines arrived perfect.

But then again, there are the people who have apparently went through several bad units in a row. So it does seem to be a hit or miss situation, and it could also be the case that a certain percentage of those people have not even noticed any flaws - while they may be there.

My replacement should be here either tomorrow or the next day. I'll post what I get. My previous one was an LG with yellow tint extending from the bottom right corner all the way in to the centre of the display and it was very noticeable in normal web browsing.

Cheers. By the looks of it, after having spent more time on mine, this is exactly what mine has as well. It has this yellow arc running from center to the bottom right corner. However, it also has a different gradation of yellow on the left lower half. It is pretty.. Noticeable and hideous, to say the least.

I am unable to verify my screen. Installed the Xcode package, but the command line merely returns that I have a color LCD without any additional information.

You need to have the 750M for that command to work.

Excuse me, I was not aware of this - probably mainly due to the fact that indeed I have got the Iris Pro model. Thank you for enlightening me :)

Have you tried going to Display preferences > Color > open Profiles?

I just wanted to update you on my experience. I purchased my rMBP 15" last weekend. I immediately noticed a yellow tint on the left side of my screen especially in the lower-left corner. The screen as a Samsung. I also had a nasty creaking sound on the underside of my case. Every time I picked it up it would creak. I used it for a week to see if I could just ignore it, but I couldn't.

Yesterday, I decided to go to a different Apple store in hopes of getting a different batch. I talked to one of the employees and he said I should set up a genius bar appointment to have a technician look at it. I firmly insisted that I just wanted an exchange since I was within my 14-day return period. He then got somebody else to help initiate the exchange.

This new one is night and day different from my last one. The machine itself feels so much more solid. No creaking at all. The screen is extremely uniform and I'm not seeing any yellowing, dead pixels, or blue halos. This time I got lucky enough to get an LG screen, which seem to be better this time around. I am so much happier than I was.

I strongly suggest if you are still in the 14-day return period to try swapping your machine out. For that amount of money, you should be 100% happy.

Thank you for your update. Glad to hear you got a fine machine in return, this should offer hope for the rest of us. Enjoy your machine!

So, I am at KRCS right now. This computer too has a very slight yellow in the corners. Maybe most of them are like this. The one I had from apple also creaked but this one does not seem to be doing this.

I don't know what to do. I think this one is slightly better than the one I had, but it's still not up to the quality I would expect.

Apple needs to work on their quality control in my opinion.

This is why I want a LG screen.
As long as they don't have IR, their colors are better.
Sure they can also have the yellow tint some where on the screen, but Samsung displays have a all over yellow tint, even if they are uniform.
This yellow tint can be quite severe in some cases, and really small in others.

Good to hear you that you got a good unit this time around.
One can only hope to be as lucky when I get mine in a few days/week.

So, I've seen 4 15" MacBook pros now and they all have issues.

1. My original one creaked and had yellow tint in the corners.

2. My replacement also has the yellow tint. It's very slight and the people at the store struggled to see it Ina white background. But it's there.

3. The display model had image retention and blue-green discoloration the the corners.

4. Another display model had a stuck/dead pixel.

So, I am giving up. Feel angry and frustrated. Too many people don't notice the issues I see. Why are people so blissfully ignorant?

Mine has a yellow tint in that exact same spot...not sure if I should return until I'm satisfied or what.

I would not hope for any fix regarding the yellow tint on Samsung's displays. I have always found Samsung's screens to be yellowish. That's why I don't buy their TV for instance. Even the androïd phone from by brother has a yellow screen. It's just the way they manufacture their screens ... I don't know the reason, I'm not an expert in the area. Clearly they are of inferior quality to the LG screens (I have seen more reports of dead pixels, uneven colors or light bleeding problems with the samsungs screens) but they are immune to IR which is the most important in my opinion. Indeed at some point your are not going to be able to use your computer because of IR when a yellowish screen is still usuable. Of course it´s still not the perfect screen Apple is selling you in their adverts. but I think I would stick with yellow of fear to get an LG screen.

So while debating whether or not to try to exchange the machine for a new screen I discovered that my right USB port is non-functional. To be more specific, it requires a bit up and down wiggling to get a USB connection with any device, while the left port works perfectly.

I tested a number of devices which all show the same results. When wiggling a plug to get the connection a message pops up in OS X saying that one of my USB devices is using too much power (again this is with anything; mouse, keyboard, xbox controller, iPhone, external drive, thumb drive). That would point to a short or just a partial connection internally.

Anyway, while this is apparently not a common issue (only found a few cases of this from Google), the whole thing has left me really uncertain about Apple's QC this year. After more careful inspection (helps to put it against a background of equal brightness by the way) I determined that my screen did indeed have "warm" and "cool" blotches regardless of angle. The failed USB port is the final nail, so for now I'll be returning the machine entirely. I'll likely live with my 17" for another year and reassess at that time.

Very unfortunate, because aside from these QC issues I think this is the best laptop I've ever used. I just don't trust that I can get a screen that matches the advertised quality at this time.

Apple needs to ditch both of these losers and see what Sharp can produce for them, which is hopefully the plan. Sharp has a reputation in the TV world for making very good panels, including the only LCD ever to enter competition with high end plasma (the Sharp Elite full array LED local dimming panel).

I would pay a premium for a higher uniformity panel. In fact that's kind of what I already thought I was doing with the rMBP, but apparently not.

I was fine with a slight yellow tint on the bottom to mid left side of my new 750m model. I'm not too particular, coming from a 13" macbook air.

It's the LG SJE-1 model. The whiteness of the screen seems very pleasing and is a tad yellower than that of my 13" 2010 MBP, which I consider the laptop with the whitest screen of all my previous macs.

I planned to keep it till I chanced upon a dead pixel with what looks like a small shadow left of it (may even be a problem with the glass).

All I hope is that this screen gets taken out of circulation and make its way to get sold as a spare part, I wouldn't want an unsuspecting refurbished unit buyer to be disappointed too!

Hey guys,
Just wanted to update my status on this threat.

I had a 15' haswell 512gb 750m with the yellow tint at the bottom left screen.
Went to the nearest Apple Store and had them exchange it. I went through 3 different brand new rMBP same specs and they all had the issue more or less in the same store.

I didnt have enough time to stay to keep exchanging so I left with the least affected one. I really do not want to settle for something I notice during normal use (can see it on a white website). Not sure what to do. I want to think about if I want to just return it altogether, try another store for a different batch, or simply keep it.

Really sucks when you pay so much money for a laptop where they highlight how great the retina display is yet it has imperfections with so many units.

I dont want to keep going to the apple store and open more and more new units to see if they don't have the issue.

Also I know it's not just me since the apple employee was agreeing with me about the yellow tint at the bottom left.

Has anyone had an apple rep call and ask to send a picture of the display to them? A rep had called and said they would like the unit sent to their labs for futher inspection, so he put a note to the Apple store I go to with instructions to ship it to the Apple facilities in CA.

The fact that all the ones you saw in that store had the issue really indicates to me that it's a bad batch of screens. I'm glad my replacement is coming straight from the factory hopefully I'll get a better one. ETA delivery tomorrow.

This is exactly why I won't be taking a replacement in-store on mine. If there's a run of poor-quality panels out there then every unit in store right now could be using those same panels. Definitely interested in hearing how your replacement works out.

And to be honest now that I have to go through the hassle of replacing it (for the dead USB even if I were okay with the screen) I'll probably just BTO the 2.6 CPU if I decide to re-buy.

A bad batch or is this just the new apple! We don't know! I've spent sooo many hours on this now. I feel like apple should be paying me for my time.

Here is a side by side of my machines:

(I am only keeping one; I placed the order for the 2.6 on launch day but wanted to change it to 2.3 - but it was too late to change, so I placed a separate order).

Both screens look good - but I like the LG (it's much whiter). The Samsung is warm.

I don't see a difference between the Samsung & LG in these photos.

It's hard to really tell anything from pictures, but just from the photo it appears that while the Samsung is more yellow it's also slightly brighter. Would you say that might be true in person? If so it would support my theory that the only major difference between the warmer and cooler panels could the calibration. If you were to calibrate that Samsung panel to the same temperature as the LG, it would get just slightly dimmer in the process.

Well it's really is hard to tell in these photos! I suppose you're right that the Samsung's brighter but that, too, could also be the position of the camera in the photo.

Samsung was known to be brighter in 2012 as well (if you put the LG on max brightness, Samsung just had one more bar to go [in theory]).
It wouldn't bother many people, since only few work on max brightness.

I just don't see how apple is selling so many bad screens. This is going to damage their reputation amongst concerning costumers.

Just got off the phone with Apple. Without questions they instantly made a new order, scheduled for delivery next week. I could keep my current model until next week as well, so I wouldn't be without it.

Here's to hoping for a new batch of screens.
