That's kind of ridiculous how it has to be 2 exchanges. I mean they can save me and themselves the trouble by checking now instead of later. Damn this is so frustrating and makes me lose faith in Apple as a company with high quality products.

Edit: On the phone. Called 1-800- my - apple. Talked to a dude that seemed decent but he wasn't really aware of the issue either so he transferred me to customer relations. The lady at customer relations seemed to sound like a higher level person (if that means anything) and was definitely aware of the issue but told me it is "very rare" and only affects a "very small" number of people. She told me she doesn't have anyone in contact with the factory in China and can't check but I pressed it and am now on hold while she checks if she can do it.

Are you still on hold? What did you find out?

She told me it can't be done. No one can check it and she said that getting my next computer is a "luck of the draw." Exact words. Wow. What a fail by Apple. Seriously pissed off right now, plus my TV stopped working. Damn Vizio.

Can someone with a reasonable opinion help me out instead of wasting their time writing an innocuous post like what this guy did.

Patrick, you're asking us to evaluate your monitor based on a smartphone photograph. The tint and appearance of your monitor can change significantly based on the angle of your camera vs the monitor, the native white balance of your camera itself, etc.

A person could chime in and say, "Oh, definitely exchange it!" but they'd be talking out of their rear ends because there's no way to objectively tell from that photo.

If you notice an obvious tint when you're using computer--i.e. reading this forum, doing whatever you do with your MBP, etc.--and it bugs you, return it. If you're struggling to see something that *might* be there but you find it hard to tell? Keep it.

Testing mine now. spec'd out 15". Should I exchange it?

Personally (from the photo) it seems darker on both sides and nice in the middle. The left being more problematic than the right. I might guess it might look a bit dirty on the left with white screens.

What's your personal feeling? Can you see it on a white site such as this?

That's the same thing I was told. Oh, they can put a man on the moon, but they can't have a human being actually look at product they're selling me before shipping it. Can't be done. Impossible.

Calls for an :eyeroll:

I HUNGER
The person on the chat was utterly useless. Wasn't aware of the yellow issue until I told her to google it. Kept telling me to use Apple care if the problem happened on my second mac but I told her I wanted them to check the screen BEFORE I got it but she said that's not possible. That's strange because people on this forum have said they got it checked from Apple.

Care to tell me how you did that? I will call 1-800-MY-APPLE if it will help. Is it worth it to call and wait on that number?

Please reply because I am in desperate need of a new computer and want to order it today.

You've gotta go through 2 exchanges first, then they will escalate it to a higher support tier I believe that will personally check your screen prior to being boxed at the factory. (I think I read this in this thread actually)

That might be the case about the 2 exchanges but it's not the rule. I'm waiting for my 1st replacement and was told on the phone they would "check" it.

My situation was this: I sent my computer in for repair and it WASN'T a stock model. They called me telling me that my screen was indeed defective and that they would replace it, BUT they didn't have any replacement screens so they will send me an upgraded machine (Stock 750 as they can't downgrade me) and will check the screen to make sure it's fine.

Perhaps others have had it happen differently, but I think if you ask for the screen to be replaced instead of getting a new computer, you will have a much better chance of getting a good screen.

I hope that's the case, monkey. I'm still waiting for a call from the Apple Store to bring in my MBP for a display replacement. (They had to order a display, apparently.)

I think it's still entirely luck of the draw, but I figure it's easier to go this route than to do the time-consuming long distance exchange with UPS.

The fact that the local technicians agreed that my display was sub-par give me cause for hope, at the very least.

where do you buy? in a local apple store? or online? apple help you? or just get lucky with the 3rd?

I bought from the online apple store (http://apple.com/uk/store) Apple helped me they stated someone would check the 3rd machine before it was dispatched to me.

By the way one thing I forgot to mention is they are sending me a free Airport Express instead of a Magic Trackpad now as I requested a swap. My own Airport Express (original model, 802.11g!) just died so I requested one of those from my support person instead of the prior agreed upon Magic Trackpad and he said sure we can do that. Not a bad gift £79 value for all my troubles and something I will use every day.

I'm not going to take a picture of the screen as I don't think those help. I can tell you by my eyes that it is perfectly uniform. I cannot see any yellow discolouration.

It is an A022 Samsung. Same model as I had the second time but this one has no yellow.

Yeah if my second mac is yellow and wrong I think I'll ask them to fix the display rather than exchange the entire computer, given there is no creaking or other problems.

But how are some of you reporting that Apple said they'll check it? I was flat out told by multiple Apple people that it was impossible for them to check the machines. I live in the USA if that matters.

To be honest, not so great, but that could be due to the white balance/artefacts of your camera.

What are your eyes telling you?
Agreed... I tried to take a picture with my phone (with HDR on) of my screen - which I think is pretty white - but it looked yellowish in the picture.

You have to "trust" your eyes. :( Maybe take your laptop to your local Apple store and try to compare it with other screens?

Just keep requesting a change until you get the perfect white screen SIMPLE, if you want the yellowish sides then deal with it, good luck selling it later, noone wants a defected screen, you pay soo much money for such a laptop, expect the best.

Remember there are perfect screens in the new retina 13" ... my friend has one and his each corner of the screen is PURE 100% white no Yellow BS... so thats the proof for me just keep exchanging till I get a good one.

just my 2 cents

Just got my 15" rMBP from MacMall and the screen is perfect. Backlighting and color are both excellent.

Not really. It kinda has that yellowish, warm tint going on, which might not be a bad thing, but when I compare it to my iPhone 5, the whites on the 5 stand out so much better than my laptop. Does anyone know if the whites on the MBP should be as good as the iPhone 5?

The saga continues...

Just got off the phone with my Apple Store and was informed that replacement displays for the Haswell MBPs are back-ordered, and that I could be waiting another 5 days before getting my machine serviced.

With my return window closing, I've finally decided to just send this machine back instead.

The fellow I spoke with said that these displays are in constant production, and that I would be more likely to get a "perfect" display by ordering a more freshly-assembled unit.

Very much looking forward to the conclusion of this annoying story.
