I HUNGER
Hi Everyone,

This is my first post on the forum and unfortunately not because of good reasons.
I bought a maxed out bto macbook pro retina 15inch a few weeks ago and I've just ordered my second replacement unit. First one had yellowing in the lower left corner of the screen, the last one was a little bit better but the left side of the screen was "colder" than the right one. So when I looked at a webpage with a white/grey background I could easily see the left part of the background didn't match the right one.

I've attached 2 pictures of the screens! Is it just me or you can also see the same issues?

Thanks

geez, that first screen is an absolute piece of *****. How can Apple ship a computer with a screen like that? It's beyond a joke to be honest. You just look at that and any reason for having a retina screen is rendered null and void.

The second screen looks okay to me, although it seems to have a red tint, but that could be just the photo.

First screen had serious yellowing issues.
Second screen didn't have yellowing issues but I couldn't stop noticing that the left side of the screen was colder that the right side. When I look at the background I see both left and right sides don't match in terms of colour temperature.

I reckon that first screen is about the worst case of yellowing I've seen in pics on this site! Horrendous. Apple should be giving you something for free for the embarrassment of selling that to you!

Perhaps your 2nd photo isn't really showing the difference in the left and right sides of your screen. Or my eyes just can't see it. Or it's just not showing up in the photo.

If the running theory here is correct that A019 is LG, then let me burst your bubble and tell you that my new replacement, an alleged LG screen, has got a yellow gradient as well.

Screen manufacturer seems to be out of the equation, and as has been suggested before in this thread I too would rather attribute the cause of unevenness to the bonding/assembling process of the display.

I believe Quu's first yellow-tinted display was an LG as well--although anecdotal evidence suggests LGs are less prone to this than the Samsung displays this time around.

In any case, super disappointing to see that 1.5 years in, manufacturers are still struggling to produce these displays. Really makes me question/regret the timing of my once-in-five-years purchase of a new MBP.

Just a quick note, there are obviously issues with a lot of these machines unfortunately but not all of them thank goodness. I have a RMBP, the $2,599 model that I might be taking back because I may go with an iMac + Air combo. It has a Samsung display from what I can tell and seems to not have any of the issues here.

Check marketplace if you might be interested in a machine that's tested for a slight discount. No link, you'll have to go look, I'm sure that would be frowned upon.

Dammit, after reading this thread I went over to look at my 12' MBPR and noticed a slight yellow tint on the bottom left side. Oh well hardly noticeable unless you're looking for it.

I'd be more concerned about the missing inch on your MBP than that slight yellow tint if I were you... ;)

This is probably the most even screen I've received but the damned thing creaks when I pick it up and the backlight bleed is pretty bad....

My Haswell rMBP (CTO 2.6) ordered on November 3rd showed up yesterday and the screen is perfect.

It's sad that so many people are having trouble with these machines but people rarely say anything positive so I figured I'd chime in.

My replacement is set to be delivered today if UPS meet their own delivery estimate. This is my 3rd unit, the one that Apple said they had a specialist inspect before it was dispatched to me.

We will see what happens I'll keep y'all updated.

I hope yours, like Pendragon's, is fine this time around as well (assuming it still is, because he has gotten sort of inactive in this thread, usually that is a good sign). My 3rd unit is scheduled for delivery friday next week.

Hey, I'm still thinking of you guys! Yes, the screen on my new unit is as close to perfect as one can reasonably expect.

The electronics are a little louder though than those of the last one. Tried swapping the SSDs but that didn't make a difference. So, don't know why it's louder, but it's not a big enough deal to return it. Makes little electronic sounds whenever it's under load.

I hope Quu's replacement and yours have a good screen too!

Whoah! I thought these issues were fixed with the previous gen rMBPs! Has Apple changed the manufacture of the display panels? I guess there are still quality control issues with the adhesive.

Just received my 3rd unit and it would appear that for me at-least the 3rd time is the charm.

This display is absolutely perfect. No yellowing at all anywhere, whites are completely uniform across the whole panel as is the back lighting. All the colours look perfect.

The case doesn't creak at all and I'm not hearing any sounds when doing anything intensive with the CPU, GPU or SSD. Seems absolutely perfect.

To really make sure there wasn't any yellowing at all I went in to a completely pitch black room and I could not see any yellow with a white background at all.

I'm happy for you! Yea, I wish my computer didn't make any sounds, but there is no way I'm going through this display lottery again.

I guess Apple really did check the screens for us?
