Is this the creaking that can be fixed with loctite and reseating the screws?

If you've gotten a good screen it's best to keep it and see if that's the problem.

I'm not sure if it's the creaking that can be fixed, sorry but what does loctite mean lol, I get the squeaky noise only when the laptop is sitting on my lap and I apply pressue near the trackpad in a slight rocky motion, it looks like the sound is coming from the bottom plate right by where the trackpad is. I don't know if I should take a chance and return it because my screen looks good and I'm worried that if I return it I may get one with no squeaky sound but I may have a bad screen. I'm a huge apple fan but I have to admit that apple is really starting to disappoint me, so many issues from yellow screens, ghost imaging, creaking cases, light leaks etc..... starting to think that were paying a premuim price for an under premium machine.

Loctite is a thread-locker brand.

Argh, this is so annoying I'm annoyed for you. This really makes me wonder how many are not affected, we shouldn't be needing to go through 3-4 replacements each to get a good one if this was an isolated problem.

Why aren't any of the Apple sites picking this up? The IR issue got good coverage but yellow no one cares about it seems.

Thanks, Quu, and others for your compassion.

A new replacement has been scheduled by e-mail, but I am also going to be touch by telephone in a bit to talk things through (couldn't earlier this afternoon). It is a shame, however, because this machine does seem to feel a bit different.. sort of what Pendragon has described, as if this MacBook feels sturdier or so than my previous one. In my mind the keyboard also types more comfortable. It doesn't creak at all, not when picking it up with one hand either.

Anyone here want to trade? No creaking sturdy rMBP 15" for your rMBP 15" with a white screen ;)

Just got off the phone with Apple support.

I have to say, I am so pleasantly surprised with the effortless way of calling with them. I am used to 'verbal fighting', having to defend myself, long waits, lots of costs, etc. and such when calling with companies, but as it should, Apple is taking full responsibility for the issue and is making me feel as if I am actually the victim here (while usually companies try to turn it the other way around). Not trying to polish up too much, because at heart of the matter there's still an unreasonable number of defect laptops.

The MacBook is going to be replaced, and my complaints have been send to higher tiers indicating that this is a structural issue (including this thread).

The friendly after-sales rep assured me that they are doing the best they can to deliver me a flawless one. So I will see - it's scheduled for delivery next week. The new one had better have a flawless white screen and a keyboard that types equally well as this one.

I'll be around as usual.

Hey does anyone think getting a screen replacement through the Genius Bar could yield better/less random results?

That's kinda the direction I'm leaning in now, since I have neither the time nor patience to go through 3-4 full replacements to get a good machine. (This one is rock solid apart from the uneven backlighting.)

I called Apple and got absolutely nowhere with regards to having them send me a replacement machine while allowing me to keep this one in the meantime, or having someone check the replacement's display before shipping it. I must have spent a total of two and a half hours on the phone with them before being told, "I'm really sorry but..."

A far cry from the "rock star" treatment I was expecting, to be honest.

So what do I need to do to fix, do I just need to tighten the screws?

Unscrew all screws and apply a tiny amount of Loctite to the threads.

If the sound is from the trackpad and it sounds like some cheap plastic packaging being crinkled, it means that the trackpad is slightly loose and this is unresolvable through user serviceable means. If the creak comes from the baseplate, it's likely that the Loctite fix will remedy it.

Lastly if you do decide to unscrew the baseplate off your mbp, do the next obvious step, which is to exclude the possibility that the sound originates from the trackpad. Play with the trackpad a little with your baseplate off.

The sound is exactly the way you described it like a cheap piece of plastic being crinkled and yes it's coming from the trackpad, I'm still within my 14 days so do you think I should return it or should I get it fixed?

If you're happy with the display you have now (and your machine has no other issues), I'd say you're better off getting it fixed than risk winding up with a crappier display or whatever.

sooo I just sent my second 13" mbp back due to the yellowish issue...

Let me get this straight, if apple sees sooo many laptops coming back why dont they just stop manufacturing with samsung screens or LOOK into the issue whats going on and NOT keep sending us the bad laptops??

My friend bough 4 laptops and 1 of them had the LG screen .. he returned the other 3... some people dont have the money to buy 4 at a time LOL

this is a joke what apple is doing...

So I was happy and thought I got lucky and didn't get a yellowish tint... nope there is on on the bottom left :\

ugh im so mad!

Has your whole screen been yellow or just the bottom part?

Wait a second.. I have an LG display...

now I'm going crazy, if I look at it from a different angle it seems to be normal ?

my whole left side was yellowish... on the first laptop i had whole right side ...

I think ill just look for a 15" 2012 NON retina model ... no wonder Apple is looking into moving away from retina into IGZO... https://www.macrumors.com/2013/11/0...-technology-for-thinner-lower-power-displays/

Just return all your retina and wait for IGZO next year.

If you think IGZO is the answer to your prayers, I suggest you have a look at the "iPad Air Screen Defects" thread in the iPad forum. More of the same.

Seems manufacturing processes are simply struggling to meet the demands of this display technology.

So maybe playing the lottery with retina is the only way to go ....

So thankful that my screen appears to be without defects (knock on wood). Either that or I'm just blissfully unaware :D

I have a 4 day old Haswell 15" rMBP. The display is even, it's perfect.

I'm curious how to ID the manufacturer. I tried the Terminal command -
ioreg -lw0 | grep \"EDID\" | sed "/[^<]*</s///" | xxd -p -r | strings -6

But it didn't bring up anything. The first time I ran it I had to DL an Xcode package. But I still get no results at all.

Any ideas?

I'm gonna see if having the display replaced at the Apple Store (rather than rolling the dice on a whole new computer) gives a better result.

I suppose this will be contingent on my Genius agreeing that my display has an issue in the first place...

I do not know what to do. Already calibrated the monitor, put the white between 6750/7000, the appearance of the hot color is gone, but still notice a yellowish white in the middle left down. Now I found it bothers me. I feel a little embarrassed, but tomorrow I should call the store.

I think by default it should not come as yellow.

It's not much but it is noted, should not have even touched the calibration.

Who does not know, does not notice anything, but who cares about these details is complicated.

Really don´t know.

I will repeat the mantra of this thread:

If it bothers you, return it.

That only works for 750M. You can open up Display Preferences > Color > Color LCD > Open Profile

Scroll to the bottom. Look for Model number (there are several for LG and Samsung - I think... but if seems:

Samsung = A022 ___ <blank to indicate there may be other Model number>
LG = A019 ___ <blank to indicate there may be other Model number>
