And this is what my second display looked like (Samsung A022):

Image

This is what mine looks like but the replacement I got today is even worse. Pretty much the entire left side of the screen is yellow. I'm tempted to just keep the lesser of two evils and call it day (I need a computer after all). Since its looking like majority of screens are built this way this generation.

If you keep it, this is telling Apple we don't care about this and they will never fix it. If your display is as bad as mine was that's crazy to keep.

Keep exchanging until you're satisfied is my advice. These things cost too much to settle for a defective unit.
Agreed!!! I wanted to "start from scratch." But it means you might have to wait for a couple of days for the Apple store to credit your card back. I used up my available credit on my primary credit card when I ordered another one - and had to use my other credit card to hold me for a couple of days LOL

so... that means that if I order a 2.6 computer... I get a screen with no issues? I just ask...
No unfortunately - it's luck of the draw; which is why I felt like I won the lottery and frantically ripped open the 2.6 to find the manufacturer and check the display.

I'm still going to check the display ... but my eyes are starting to go (I'm starting to see stars LOL

If I am not satisfied, I was going to immediately call up Apple to request a replacement ... run to the Apple store to return it.

I'm just hoping that my replacement will have none of the issues, my current one has been flawless, bar the yellowing and slight ticking from the palm rests.

Do any of the 13" models have this issue?

I can tell you that I saw it on one 13" which had a fairly pronounced warm/cool shift from left to right. I haven't looked at many of the 13" screens very closely so I couldn't say anything about how common it is there, but if I had to guess I'd say it would be equally common on both panels. All the usual reasons: It's a common IPS problem, both have high pixel densities which bring yields down (in fact the 13" is slightly higher density), both sizes made by same manufacturers.

Do you have an LG or a Samsung?

After thinking I had a keeper, I'm returning to the Apple Store for yet another replacement.
My Samsung screen has a yellow to blue/grayish gradient from left to right.

It isn't noticeable on it's own but on this forum the left side of the screen is clearly tinted differently from the right side.

Beginning to find this a bit absurd.
-My rMBP from Amazon was horrifically squeaky and had an LG with a pink corner.
-First one from Apple was noisy (CPU or iGPU were obnoxiously loud; I can attest to this as I've now had experience with 3 different machines).
-Now this current one has uneven tinting.

Will be moving onto my fourth machine this week (third directly from Apple)

Not sure if Retina is worth all this trouble (coming from a perfect, albeit cosmetically worn, 2009 17" MBP)

I will decide on the drive over to the Apple Store whether to try my luck on a fourth machine or to just downgrade to a maxed out MacBook Air and not have to deal with Retina screen issues...

I had to get three replacements before I got a good screen and no creaking. My current one feels very sturdy and has a great screen. The SSD likes to whine though when under heavy load, although its gotten fainter. Weird eh?

May swap the SSD with the one I am sending back to apple.

I gather that most of these retina macbook pros have issues. They are beautiful and fast machines though if you have the time to do 3 plus returns.

Got my 2nd unit 5 minutes ago. Yellow gradient mid to bottom half, just like my previous one, except with a less noticeable yellow on the lower right (my previous one had that quite pronounced). This has a 0610/a019 screen - so basically the type of screen and manufacturer does not really matter.

Going to get in touch with Apple, this is no better than my previous.

Argh, this is so annoying I'm annoyed for you. This really makes me wonder how many are not affected, we shouldn't be needing to go through 3-4 replacements each to get a good one if this was an isolated problem.

Why aren't any of the Apple sites picking this up? The IR issue got good coverage but yellow no one cares about it seems.

Getting really annoyed with apple at this point, just noticed that when my laptop is sitting on laptop it makes a loud creaking sound, this is now my 3rd replacement this is a bit to much for the price we pay these should be pretty much perfect out of the box.

This is insane! I got 4 replacements and all of them had creaking issues. I have returned all of them and refund should arrive in a few days, I will be waiting a few weeks and see if problems get solved or not.

I think the yellow tint/uneven temp issue is very wide spread given the number of machines people are seeing with the issue (including myself). The reason this isn't getting a lot of press I think is just that most people have poor eye sight and/or have low standards and/or don't know any better. My wife, for example, although she could see the uneven yellow tint, said that she wouldn't care about it and couldn't see why it bothered me that much.

Yes, my original machine did that too. This new one feels completely different. No creaking and much sturdier construction. Return it!

LOL these issues must be wide spread. Or at least they must be wide spread within a certain batch. I am sure Apple will fix it. So, waiting may be a good idea. Or you can call apple up and demand they check your machine first.

My second one arrived today (at home) although I won't get to test it until Friday evening when I'm back.

Is this the creaking that can be fixed with loctite and reseating the screws?

If you've gotten a good screen it's best to keep it and see if that's the problem.
