No, really, you should stop telling people to enjoy faulty screens. From the picture, that screen does not look uniform at all.

That screen looks fine to me - a photo taken by what is likely an iPhone will only exaggerate any minor issues in uniformity.

It's almost impossible to get 'uniform' LCD panels. Have you ever seen your TV when it displays a complete white or black image? You'll see the same clouding, bright areas that we see in photos of MBP panels, on this forum.

This is the downside of sidelit backlighting. It's extremely hard to get it uniform, particularly on the 15".

I'm not saying there aren't yellow tint issues - that certainly exists for some users - but asking for a true uniform LCD panel, is asking for something that rarely exists.

This would only be, what, the twentieth time fitgirl has been told this???

I believe this famous quote applies to the situation:

Out of curiosity I took a cell picture of my rMBP a few weeks ago and evidently I have yellow tinting on 2/3 of my screen. News to me as I thought I was looking at uniform white this whole time!

Suffice it to say I now don't trust or comment on any posted pics of yellow tinting.

I got my replacement today. It doesn't make any electronic sounds, but the screen wasn't as a good. Solution? Swapped the screens. Now, I have a perfect computer. (By the way, swapping screens on these retinas aint hard if you have the right tools. Can take an hour. But quite doable.)

Crazy that this is what it takes! For 3,000 dollars the computer should be perfect to begin with. Anyway, can get on with my life now... hopefully.

That is crazy, you took apart your old unit and your new one and swapped the screen over? haha

Apple have a lot to answer for with these systems, for real.

If you don't see yellow tint with your eyes, keep and enjoy it.

I do see a very very small very light yellow tint on the right hand side near the bottom corner but I have to really look at it to notice its not the kind of yellow tint that jumps out at u.

Similar to mine

I have a new 15" MBP and your screenshot looks similar to mine. My yellow bars (left and right) mostly only extend from the bottom up about 2 inches, though. After that, they fade out. On mine, the top half of the screen looks a little brighter than the bottom half but I mostly don't notice it. I agree with people who say this is like the LED TVs. My Samsung 32" has some bright clouds when the DVD is loading say, but when content is playing it looks fine.

Unfortunately, a lot of what we look at on our MBPs involves a white background and web page borders in particular (like Macrumours) tend to fall right where the yellow lines are, drawing attention to the slight discolouration.

Personally, I think it's the tech. If we had OLED displays (ie. where each individual pixel can be lit independently) I don't think we would have the problem. But right now those are very expensive displays, and Apple does not produce an MBP with them. I was hoping the 2nd gen would get rid of the 1st gen problems, but IMHO we are all still early adopters when it comes to retina displays of this size, otherwise they would be consistently fine.

Yup, that's exactly what I did. Was kind of cool. All worked out. Figured, this one has a perfect screen, and this one doesn't buzz. So, why not take the best of both and put them together. ta da! Worked flawlessly.

But yes, it is absurd that I had to do it.

My unit the 3rd one that is going back to Apple has developed yet another fault. The enter key on the keyboard is now half broken. If I press it down anywhere on the centre or lower it doesn't go down, it sort of just creeks and it feels like the mechanism is jammed.

I've barely used the keyboard on this thing but it seems every time I go to use it I find something else broken on it. Starting to wonder if I have elves in my home smashing up my electronics when I'm asleep.

Anyone else's enter key acting funky or just me? - Glad this is going back anyway, the sooner the better.
