You mean it's actually getting worse? This is insane at this point xps 15 is looking pretty good.

Next time I buy a Mac I'm waiting to see what people say about it on these forums. Although I have a good unit now after 5 replacements and swapping screens, the stress was not worth it.

Re the Dell XPS, I thought about buying one a few times throughout this fiasco. I wonder though whether the chances of getting a good screen is really any better with that computer than the retina macbook pro? Do we know?

Hey guys, I have just received my third rMBP.

I find this really difficult to judge, because I have been growing accustomed to the yellow gradient screens for the past weeks, but this one actually appears to have a white screen. Chassis seems to be pretty solid, as well as the keyboard. I do have the idea that it types a bit.. different than the last one, but it is definitely sturdier than the first rMBP. The screen seems to be consistent and showing perceptible difference in whites and greys. Blacks are also very good and deep.

I am not going to do a final judgement on this case yet, as I have only been playing with it for about 15 minutes now. I will get back to you.

If it remains like this, though, I am keeping it, for this one should satisfy my needs screen wise. It does not feature the hideous, gross, clearly noticeable shifts in colour - nor backlighting inconsistencies.
Fingers crossed.

and what is the model of your screen? lg(SJE2) or samsung? and how is the brightness?

Just to follow up my previous post here is the final score that the Spyder4Elite gave the display:

fyht3m9.png

Near the white point result it says 0.0 this actually means it didn't even get a single point in this category. That test was performed (you have to perform all of them to get an overall rating). This just shows how crap this display is when it can't even get 1 point for white balance.

Overall it scored 3.5 out of 5. That's rubbish. That is the mean score of all the other scores. If this was based on the lowest score (like Windows Experience Index) it would have received a 0 out of 5. In my opinion a screen that can't even show a true white is unusable.

I'm gonna say yes the chances are better becuse there are not many complaints on their screen not even half the complaints I see here, also the screen resolution is better then the MacBook Pro retina, I really feel at this point your paying for the brand name, I also feel that people associate the name apple with perfection and they associate the name dell with mediocre performance and perfection but I think the tables are turning very quickly, a friend of mine has the xps 15 she says it's amazing with great performance and stunning screen, going over to her place to see for myself and if it is what she says it is then I'm done with playing this lottery, I'm also starting to realize why PC users make fun of us so called isheep cause no matter how many faulty units we get, no matter how many iPhones we have had to exchange due to dings right out of the box, or how many iPad swaps we've had to do due to light leaks we keep coming back and we keep swapping/exchanging till we get a perfect unit, and why do we do this because it's apple and no matter all the flaws with their products we choose to ignore it and we keep following them like disciples knowing very well that the compition is starting to get ahead of them.

My 15" screen was perfect. Unfortunately, it came shipped with a dime sized dent on the bottom..yes right out of box. Returned it to the store and decided to wait for few weeks to order another. Would like to score another perfect screen AND dent free.

Really, I'm not under an illusion that Apple has better made products than Dell. However, I still think Mac OS X is better than windows. I can't speak for windows 8, but I have windows 7 installed. It looks way outdated and insists on restarting whenever it wants to install updates (unless I specifically turn auto update off). In fact, I was busy doing something in windows 7 and it just restarted without asking me to install updates. My friend said always turn off all the auto update stuff in windows, because it doesn't work properly. So, if I could get a dell XPS 15 with mac os x, I would have down that a while ago.

I'd say just swap bottom covers, but those have serial numbers on them. Sucks!

My husband has window 8 and it's not bad but I agree with you that apples software is better, and as far as apple having a better build is debatable because if it has such a good build then it wouldn't have such issues as creaking cases, loose keys and defective screens, to me better build means a solid machine, however reading this thread and seeing all these issues that isn't the case.

P.S someone I know who works in IT says that appel's OS can be installed on a windows PC the same way windows can be installed in a Mac.

I feel like for 3,000 dollars all those numbers should be 4 or higher.

The model of my screen is a 0610/A019 (terminal command does not work for me, as I have got the Iris Pro model). Brightness is excellent.

Further testing - and above all - usage will determine whether this one is a keeper. After further examination, it does appear to have this slight discrepancy in backlighting about 3/4th to the right in the middle of the screen. But that is only noticeable when paying really close attention to it.

Does the discrepancy in the backlighting make it look like a yellow tinge?

With score like that can it even calibrated in order to make it appear more uniform and white?

The best white test is the google home page. It's as white as snow. I found that there is no yellow on my Sammy

so in this time Samsung or LG SJE2 it's ok (via Applediscussions and Macrumors)

I may be wrong, But the yellow spots could be the eyes adjusting to the extreme sharpness of the black text against the white background. I had this issue on my ipad w/ Retina

Does it look yellow when your looking at the screen

Nice! Did you order yours online or did you buy in store?

in the store. I requested the fifth serial number letter to be N or greater and the sales rep looked at me with a harmless smile. He was so helpful. He said if there is any problems what so ever, Just bring it back for an exchange or a refund.

Just a theory. I see yellow spots, But they disappear quickly.

I really feel for you, are you getting another replacement?

I am yes. My 4th unit is coming between the 1st and 4th of December but I suspect it will come a little sooner than those dates.

Does it look yellow when your looking at the screen

It depends. If I look just at the centre it looks white. But if I look at the top of the display that looks whiter and then the middle looks yellow. Basically my eyes can adjust to each single part of the display but when you are using the whole thing and looking around it you start to notice how it's not uniform and how some parts look more yellow than other parts.

In short, it looks yellow to mine and my wife's eyes and it is yellow as confirmed by my high-end display calibrator.

I've just sent back my 2nd one.
The first one was an A022 (Samsung) bottom half yellow
this second one was an A019 (LG) dark yellow bottom edge on the left side
and the right side was a little bit purple - so also not a keeper.

this is how my left side looks like at the A019 (max. deviation is 630K)

That means, it doesn't matter if LG or Samsung.
(no creaking)

it can be eyes(due to high resolution, factory calibrations of retinas) but personally as doctor i don't think so cause problem goes from 1th gen of retinas 's i remember. i also have yellow areas even in sony sz650N when they first arrived and changed machine 2-3 times.
as i see my LG SJE1 is ok in general only on max brightness it's only comfort to read so it will be negative with energy saver mode-autobrightness very time on 100% and i see how my battery goes down fast. probably in situation nowdays i should keep it but for 3200$ i want perfect or close to it, so plane to change ( i have 1 week more for thinking)

so will hope for new one from last batch. i suppose apple knows about problem like with iPads and strengthened control or factory will use new versions of screen.

This is the yellow I see on mine it's on the lower righ hand side near the corner do you think it looks bad enough for a replacement it should I keep it?

I'd rather not comment on these photographs as they are not colour accurate.

Update.

I asked apple for a extra charger and a 32GB flash drive for my trouble with all the replacements. This is £125 (or 200 dollars) of goods. Apple agreed, and they are going to ship the items to me all for free next week. So, this does make me feel a little better about the experience. At least I am getting some free stuff for my trouble. LOL

I perhaps could have asked for even more, but there wasn't really anything else that I wanted that I thought they would give me. I mean sure I'd take a new iPad air or iPad mini, but I didn't think that was realistic.
