I gave up returning to Best Buy after 3 times with Samsung screens. I went to Apple and got one that works its an LG screen.

Was strongly considering buying from B&H because of sales tax, however after these threads it seems like Im going to have to buy from Apple so I can return in case of a bad screen.

hi guys, im a noobie but my rmbp 15" is a LG too : N, SJE1

so far so good but im wondering cuz in the last pages it was all for sammy and now its seems LG is back lol.

white r pretty decent, brightness is fine and i cant see any yellowish and no dead pixels.

even if its the first day and i find the display really ok, should i try to get a samsung to lower the risks in the longrun?

thanks a lot

I'm in the same boat as you. I decided to take a gamble and bought a 15" rMBP today from Portableone. I just couldn't resist their prices. The unit I bought is on backorder, so hopefully I will receive a unit built more recently. If I have any issues I think I can still bring it to Apple since Portableone is an authorized reseller.

I noticed that the entire screen is yellower than expected and I have a distinct 'cool' spot in the top 15% of the screen that is very noticeable when reading text while scrolling or when moving a window.

Saw the pictures above so tried my screen on all black and it doesn't look very black at all: attached pic exaggerates slightly.

Thoughts?

Wow, I got the same screen as you, its an LG, I get yellow tints on the bottom two corners and the top corner its like a redish tint there, I find it quite annoying and I found out because my wallpaper is black and I was using it at night, quite annoying, I will call Apple today to see if I can get a replacement. Did you get a new one?

I don't know about BH (their return policies seem pretty strict), but I originally bought from best buy, went through three awful samsung screens, and eventually a best buy rep just recommended i go to apple. went to apple store, and though the manager told me that technically any returns or exchanges need to be done through best buy, he understood that this has already been a huge pain, so he'd be willing to accommodate me and do an exchange. opened it in store, had pink corners/yellow tint/ etc, exchanged again on the spot. new screen is best one i've had so far but far from outstanding. there's still a very warm tint (wouldn't quite say yellow), but it's warmer and dimmer than pretty much every screen in my house (phone, external monitor, old macbook, wife's 2012 rmbp, etc.). got sick of all the time wasting, and so I've decided to just deal with it for now. I figure if it really becomes intolerable months down the line, I'll just take it in under the warranty, but i just couldnt afford further hits to productivity right now.

as a side note, one rep at the apple store mentioned to me that the uneven coloration on the screens is a known problem and apple was planning to release some kind of firmware or software update in the next couple weeks. not sure I buy it, and not sure what kind of OTA update can fix faulty panels, but I thought I'd mention it since I haven't seen any talk of this in the forums. He didn't say anything about yellow tinting, though it was clear he had dealt with many such complaints.

Just received 4th unit, and it has the best screen so far, no yellow tint, acceptable consistent illumination, no color shift.

It's a LG screen manufactured Nov 1 with M serial.

Also relieved that there are no creaking or cosmetic damage. Finally! Buying a tech tool should not be this difficult:roll eyes:.

They are. They're mostly pleasant to deal with, and their prices are competitive. I suspect the strict return policy is needed to maintain that.

I can tell you from personal experience and provide photographic evidence that it's not always true that the Samsungs are yellow and the LGs are white: I've seen white Samsungs and now I'm on a yellow LG.

also on a tinted LG (P)

From my experience, BH in practice is very good about returns on electronics despite their written policy. They will happily take it back if it's defective. You just have to be patient with shipping times of sending and receiving a replacement.
