Today I'll drop my 2012 retina (original LG replaced with Samsung, and that one has a tints, quite bad) at apple store to get new 2013 machine :)

Genius decided to give me a new 2013 model instead of trying to repair 2012 model another time.

I hope that it will come with better screen. Will keep you posted. It is BTO one so was shipped from China.

I HUNGER
hi guys, im a noobie but my rmbp 15" is a LG too : N, SJE1

so far so good but im wondering cuz in the last pages it was all for sammy and now its seems LG is back lol.

white r pretty decent, brightness is fine and i cant see any yellowish and no dead pixels.

even if its the first day and i find the display really ok, should i try to get a samsung to lower the risks in the longrun?

thanks a lot

Absolutely in no way return your computer. First of all it's incredibly wasteful and 2nd, and I don't mean to be rude, but that's just crazy to return a perfectly good computer because it has an LG screen. Your computer works fine. Be happy and leave the replacements to those who really need to get their machines replaced.

the argument that you have LG and want samsung is not an argument at all fro the genius. They will never tell you:"oh, well, we will give you a samsung then.."

It's random.

Retina screens on macbooks and ipads have a huge problems with tints and unifomity. If I knew it earlier, I would never buy those devices again.

Nice result! :) Have you had many repairs done previously?
Maybe that'll happen to me if I have any problems :D
None yet though!

The only repair was a replacement of LG screen due to bad IR. Replaced with Samsung but this one was pretty bad as well. I am photographer in my spare time, using Eizo displays so I know what i means to have an uniform display without yellow tints:)

This time @ apple store they agreed with me regarding that second screen and offered screen replacement + logic board replacemedn (practically I would have only my HDD left + the chasis, everything else was up for replacement.

They have changed their mind after few days and phoned me offerring new 2013 machine :) with Apple care starting from the date of pick up (had apple care previously already)

That's what I call a perfect customer service:)

The 2013 model isn't much better than 2012 based on what I've gathered in terms of display quality (and temp)

Will see, apple care is up and running so if the new one is bad, it will get replaced.

Who knows, maybe next years release will bring some better displays.

Thanks for the info. Nice result for you. Maybe they've run out of new/refurbished 2012 models.
There isn't a huge difference between 2012 and 2013 in real terms, I suppose, but a new Mac is better :D

Haswell rMBP haven't been out for six months!?

I said it MIGHT appear because it has done so in the past with older models. There's no reason to assume Samsung or LG are providing quality displays, or that Apple is trying to resolve any problems that would hurt their bottom line.

Tim Cook says, "As Dr. Martin Luther King once said, the time is always right to do what's right. At Apple, we do the right thing. Even when it's not easy. If you see something that doesn't meet our standards, speak up. Whether it's a quality issue or a business practice, if it affects Apple's integrity, we need to know about it."

I think we should all write to him about this issue. If he's being honest, he will be very happy we did so, and if enough people write, he will have to say something.

And Dr. King had multiple mistresses. Soooo... to quote him about doing the right thing comes with a big fat asterix.

IPS Displays

Are you guys aware that every single IPS/Super-PLS is NOT going to be perfect? Anybody who's saying that they've got a perfect screen is either lying or can't tell. Sure the degree of the uneven tint varies for each display. So for some displays, it might seem like it's perfectly white, but if you really look for it, you will definitely find it. Do yourselves a favor, and stop by at a BestBuy to look at the QHD+ 3200 x 1800 displays of the newer laptops like on the Samsung Ativ Book 9 Plus. You're gonna find the bottom half dirtier (or yellowish) than the top half, exactly like the display issue with the new rMPBs.

Just got my second 15''. After seeing only Samsung at the physical store I was sure I'd get one again but...

I got a LG! And it's really good. Colours are so much more vibrant. I wish the whites were colder, but compared to the Samsung this is so much better.

Production week 48. The Samsung I had before was production week 44.

Could be totally random, but my guess is that by ordering online one has more chances of getting a proper screen, since they might have more old stock in physical stores.

Best of all order a BTO machine, those come from the factory.

Here's to a keeper!

That's something I've pointed out, although not with the nicely prescribed examples of where to find it. Displays aimed at professional use often take post measures to improve uniformity. They only use a percentage of the total range by what can be met with greater uniformity over the entire panel, but that is not in the nature of the panel itself. It's a solution to a limitation of the technology. I'm not sure why Apple hasn't tried something similar.

I have picked up my replacement rMBP today. It's the current model.

Screen I have is LSN154YL01-A01 which is samsung.

This Samsung has somehow better colors than the previous one I had.

Right side is a little bit yellowe but not more than 200K (measured with i1 Display Pro). Unofirmity is not bad.

Overall I'm happy with what I got. It was CTO machine.

I must say that these retina displays are just that. There may be something with the current technology. These are not EIZO or NEC color critical displays.

Below test measurment of above screen:
