Got news for all you here, its not just the retina macbook pros. I just picked up a loaded 2013 macbook air and it has yellow screen and pink apple logo. NOT happy. Yellow is so obvious its like a dirty screen. Tried to calibrate it and made it less obvious but can't get rid of it. I got this machine used but it has apple care. Think if I take it to apple store they would swap it or change the screen or is it a losing battle?

I have a couple questions. When you say it's yellow, was that compared to an older model that this one replaced? Also what are you using to calibrate? I ask for a reason. If you're using a Spyder or X-rite device AND have an old display that you like, you could measure the old one using a target of white point "native", then take the measured white point and use that as a target setting for the new one in the same software package. If you are just using calibration assistant in OSX, uncheck use native white point and move that slider to the right. Depending on how well it tracks from white to black, you may be happier with that result. Otherwise return it and try again. This is what Apple gets for not picking a spec and sticking to it across devices.

I've tried this 3 times but I was told the yellowing is normal. Your only hope is to exchange it or return it within 14 days. After that you're stuck with it.

No offence to you but I don't think you really understand the problem. The problem is not that the whole screen is yellow, the problem is that only part of the screen is yellow.

If the whole display had a yellow tint my eyes would be able to adjust to that over time and it wouldn't be a bother. But when only part of the screen is yellow and the other parts are white it creates a contrast as your eyes move around the display and that is jarring.

I think this explains why Apple is shipping these yellow-tinted displays: many people have stated that they wouldn't mind an evenly-tinted yellow display. So that's what Apple is giving us. I don't know in what world a yellowy-white is better than a white-white. Many people have complained about evenly-tinted yellow displays and they do notice it. It's very noticeable because most of us aren't using just one display but we glance between the Mac and an iPhone and an iPad and the differences between all these displays is very jarring. And on its own a yellow-tinted Mac display is noticeable simply because the colours become a muted yellow and the low contrast between the colours is noticeable.

So Apple is going to continue using these yellow displays because while a few people like me complain about them many others don't mind and don't care.

Fully acceptable

Received my new rMBP 15 yesterday built week 5 Feb.

Screen a bit yellow compared to my old 2012 BUT totally even.

No retention or backlit issues, no dead pixels (and no creaking).

So, I went in to the display under system prefs and made it a bit bluer - worked excellent!

It came with a lot more profiles than I had on my old one.

Most important to me is that it is even, not just in a corner or two.

AND, it is not yellow, just MORE yellow than my old one.

I am very happy with it. Manufacturer is LG.

Does it have dGPU? What display model does appear when typing that ioreg command that shows display info?

If the display is not yellow why did you have to change the native white point up to 7000 K or 8000 K? Of course it's yellow. You shouldn't have to do that.

Hopefully they'll replace my screen with a SJE1... looks like this model doesn't suffer from uneven yellowing. I've already seen other successful cases where the displays are coded SJE1.

I've got a LP154WT1-SJE1. It has overall yellowing and a yellow lower-left corner and a blue lower centre region. I posted pictures of it in this thread a couple of pages back.

There's a Wall Street Journal interview with Tim Cook. I took notice of what he said about displays. He said they care about "clarity, contrast" and other parameters of displays. Obviously mister Cook doesn't use his own products because the iPad mini and Retina Macs get image retention; the iPads have displays that turn pink in direct sunlight or one half a different colour and the other half a different colour. Apple does not care about display quality and the Genius Bar has told us that fact directly when they deny image retention screen replacements, or when they say that yellow tint variation is normal. How can Cook say that they care about "reliability" of their displays when many people without Apple Care developed severe image retention on their Macs and now they're stuck with a useless machine?

WSJ: People want a bigger screen iPhone. Are you against that?

Cook: What we’ve said is that until the technology is ready, we don’t want to cross that line. That doesn’t say we’ll never do it. We want to give our customers what’s right in all respects – not just the size but in the resolution, in the clarity, in the contrast, in the reliability. There are many different parameters to measure a display and we care about all those, because we know that’s the window to the software.

I am really amazed that the late 2013 models still have yellow display issues. I had bought the 15" when it came out in oct 2013, and got 4 replacement coz of creaking and display issues. I got refund in the end and is waiting for an update to this crap.

& I've never been happy with brightness level. Even if I put it right up to max it's "just" bright enough, but I prefer to keep it a few notches below that, just coz I'm a bit paranoid.

Has anyone else had this issue?

Can the brightness of it really affect the appearance of the display? I guess if it was at max it could due to excessive ambient light, I've tried turning mine completely off for a while.

I've tried it way up & way down, doesn't have much of an impact at night or day IME.

Yes, it's because the production is from 2014. How is it working, any yellow screen, creak?

I set it up overnight. It is a fine machine. No yellow screen, Dead pixels or anything. Its a beautiful work of art. My only issue is how my logitech mouse reacts when i plug in my Seagate USB external drive.

My "X" is pretty good. It wasn't as good as my previous machine which had very amazing whites. It's more yellow. But on the other hand, the backlight bleeding is better.

I don't know which serial the previous unit was.

Received my 3rd replacement today, same problem as with the last. Uneven yellowing. It has also 5 as the fifth diget in the serial number.

I wonder if I should ask for a machine replacement after the third repair and if the 4th display shows uneven yellowing. I never thought buying a rMBP which didn't had a decent high res, uniformly coloured display. A brand new machine with the same problem wouldn't solve the issue.

Pink Apple logo? Is this an indication you have a faulty screen? I haven't heard of such a thing until now.

Hey fellas, just received my unit, the one with 750m. How and what issues should I look out for?

I tried to check the manufacturer using the below, but was prompt to install xCode.
Code:
ioreg -lw0 | grep "EDID" | sed "/[^<]*</s///" | xxd -p -r | strings -6

Totally out of order that this is STILL happening on such expensive machines. I had the same with my 2010 iMac, had to exchange it twice.
Has anyone tried complaining? I did when i took my iMac back, and the Genius guy completely dismissed it, so it clearly needs to be done at a higher level...
:(

Are we talking about even yellowing or yellow regions? My problem is with even yellowing because it makes the whole display look like mud. I've complained 3 times at the Genius Bar only to be told it's normal. I've called Apple support twice only to be told to bring it in to the Genius Bar to have it examined. One call was with a senior advisor who just told me to bring it in because he can't see it over the phone. I'm on my third yellowed display after a first clear one.
