Why is it so hard to implement proper external display support. As Nike say, JUST DO IT!
It’s not because the app developers will have to write apps for huge variety of display resolution and aspect ratio.

I mean look at how optimized the UI for IG, FB, Twitter apps are on the iPad.

Even for Samsung Dex desktop mode, tablet apps will still open in phone app aspect ratio within the desktop.

I’m quite surprised that they managed to make even less changes than my worse case scenario. Impressive.

I would be cancelling or returning any M1 order right now.

Unless you particularly need the screen or storage, the latest iPad Air should be than fine at a fraction of the cost.
I agree. Hold off buying.

I fired someone for doing that - she liked to watch Netflix “while working”. It’s one thing to listen to music etc., but you cannot multi task like that. If you work for me I expect work, not faffing around.

Still, what do I know? I mean I only have deliverables I have to give to the executives and a team of people who fulfill those and don’t goof off watching “TV in the background”.

YOU were the one who brought up the TV - you opened yourself up to be questioned and criticized as a result.
Not every job is the same, and not every person is the same, so before you put all people in your one little box of what work is and should be, understand what they do. Music Production allows TV in the background if one chooses, some own their own businesses and make their own schedule, some IT jobs consist of monitoring and alerts so a TV in the background is a non issue, etc. Believe it or not, some people absolutely can multitask while having a TV in the background, I’ve done it for over 20 years. I’m assuming she was a Netflix binge watcher who wasn’t getting work done? Not everyone who has a TV on is glued to it watching first runs. Some just like the background noise just the same as music/radio. In my opinion, it should be about production not appearance. And for the record, I know and understand there are jobs and corporations out there where background TV is not allowed or even possible. My work is not one of them.

This was an amazing showcase. What was shown is essentially the next evolution of software. Software that will reduce the amount of effort to complete more work. Removing barriers between devices, increasing the speed for every transaction, ML and AI enhancement almost everywhere. You can give people a bunch of tools, and cool things to do; but, in the end… it is how well something works, and that was the showcase today. Again, it really was amazing

How yea that instagram app for iPad is the perfect example of awesome optimisation. A joy to use! It's almost like using a heavy ass iPhone.

Everything on the conference has been disappointing. Even saying look siri now can work partially without internet. That’s how Siri used to be at the start ?.

at least my M1 iPad Pro will be very fast for years to come.
Siri has ALWAYS needed the internet. I had the ORIGINAL Siri app before Apple bought them out and baked it into iOS. So that statement is incorrect, so yeah. ?

New desktop chip in iPad Pro, so how about we expect desktop apps? Is that ok with you?
Apple set themselves up for this one. The M1 (A14X) is an iPad chip that they put on desktop computers. iPad Pros have been stronger than Intel Macs for quite some time already. So they didn’t magically put a desktop chip on an iPad. They first put an iPad chip to the desktop and then they put the same iPad chip to the iPad.

Some people mentioned that how much stronger Apple has become in sealing the leaks as there were almost nothing leaked before this WWDC.

As it turned out, there were actually almost nothing to leak.

Personally I didn't expect anything from this year's WWDC. The 12.9 IPP is my first Apple device anyway and I bought it because of the hardware (especially the display) and the existing features, not because of some rumors. So I would have been totally fine if they hadn't announce anything ?
I like the better multitasking though. It occurs that when downloading 5 GB + from my Onedrive cloud to my device that I had to permanently let the window open... Here in Germany, the download took forever and I can't edit a few pictures simultaneously while loading stuff in the background ?
Before I bought the IPP I hoped for real desktop Photoshop on the iPad, since I'm used to it since 15 years but I'm now fully into Affinity Photo so I even wouldn't need Photoshop anymore ?

Yes the screen is still amazing for the 12.9, but given that now they won’t have another major iPadOS release in at least 1 year & 3 months, we can’t really hold our breath to any meaningful and significant software improvement to the iPad line. Don’t get me wrong, I still like the iPad and I still use it a lot, but I can’t expect anything big from Apple at least until late 2022.

I understand your point but I really don't expect anything. If I understand correctly the device is "made" for illustrator, photographers and artists and not for only media consuming for example and as a photographer I can say that it's pretty awesome. I'm coming from a Surface Pro 6 with 16 GB of RAM and when doing focus stacking in Photoshop I can drink coffee and smoke a whole pack of cigarettes ? And then Photoshop crashes ? The IPP finally got me in a waaaay more productive direction. Everything's fast and smooth in editing, I easily work over 75 % faster (and without anger ?) than on my Surface Pro.

People here really need to understand the difference between an app and an operating system. FCP and Logic was not on the table at this event as is appropriate! This WWDC keynote was hardcore demonstrations of API, security and programming apps and where the Apple ecosystem is moving. Self proclaimed "Pro" not being programmers were not catered for and rightly so!

Better multiple monitor support does make sense for some contexts, and I’m sure Apple plans on improving Files (but keep in mind, there might not actually be a full time developer working on just the Files app, unlike more prominent apps like Safari and Messages), so I wouldn’t lose hope for them. It looks like there was probably some show stopper issue with Home Screen widgets on iPadOS14, which could easily have delayed other larger iPad updates by a year.
Multiple monitor support is the final piece missing in the iPad that I hoped would be addressed this year, given the M1.

I think that it is in work though... perhaps the way Apple showed how you can move your cursor and files between devices with such ease is just the beginning.

The thing is that the iPad is a least-common-denominator device. There's only one iPadOS, so maybe Apple is holding those features up until the base iPad is strong enough? IDK.

You're optimistic. The iPad barely supports a single monitor (it's atrocious in its current form)... It'll be years before Apple pulls their finger out for iPad OS.

I thought the same thing with mouse and trackpad support, but here we are.

I really don't know when, but sooner is always better than later.

I'm just not in a hurry for that feature, because I use my iPad mainly as, well, an iPad.

Instead of a bigger external monitor, what I REALLY want is a bigger iPad.

I would also love an iMac/Surface Studio-like machine that I could draw on and ran iPadOS (as long as Apple also keeps the real iMac around... I hate when they kill off products sometimes).

The iPad Pro Max or something (I hate that name) ;)
