Do people really notice the difference between promotion and regular refresh? I never once have moved from my iPad Pro to iPhone and thought "OMG - scrolling in Safari is so choppy on iPhone compared to iPad Pro"
The bigger difference is probably in media that exceeds 60 Hz, but some people swear up and down that they can see 60 Hz refresh rates. Maybe there’s something to it.

I thoroughly enjoyed that conference! Got lots of refinement updates to iOS, glad multitasking is improved on iPadOS but will have to see, macOS has good minor improvements especially the new Safari UI and watchOS was just meh! Highlight of the show was Maps (hoping to move away from Google) and iCloud+ ?

I was actually disappointed with iOS 14 last year.

Never had expectations for pro apps onboarding to iPad. Did not set any expectations for the show. I even said before “Do not buy a tech product based on the promise of future software updates”

I wanted to wait for WWDC to open my M1 iPad… I decided that I was going to keep it either way and stupidly had faith that Apple had a reason for sticking the M1 in the iPad.

I regret buying the M1 iPad now seeing that NOTHING announced today justifies its existence and reviews of the 2018, 2020 & 2021 show that nearly nothing has improved either. Neither of the 3 are any ‘snappier’ than the other. Web browsing is the same. RAM management is great on all of them. Export times on projects aren’t nearly as dramatic as you would think and Apple limits the OS to 5 or 6gb from what I saw on a previous post so even the 8 & 16gb of RAM is just a waste.

Now to figure out my return window.
If you got it at launch the return window closed this past Friday. I'm going to call and see what I can do to return my loaded 2021 M1 iPP 12.9 with 1TB....

Normal people don't really upgrade year after year.

Heck, I'm an enthusiast and even I've been skipping 2-3 generation upgrades.
I used to treat iPad's like iPhones and would upgrade each year or every other year because there were significant changes (pencil support, larger screens, Face ID/remove home button) but now I'm learning to treat my iPad like my Mac and upgrade only every 3-5 years as the hardware is more mature now and clearly the iPad software isn't pushing the capabilities of the hardware....

I stopped the annual upgrades after 2017.

Prices just jumped way too high in 2018 ($1699 11" & $1899 12.9" 1TB LTE). At that point, I decided to wait for a bigger jump from my 2017 and at least for me, the 2021 delivered.

Oh, wow! You returning yours!?
One "great" iPadOS 15 Beta change I saw over on Reddit - portrait apps (iPhone-like) rotate in landscape mode.
Currently my iPadOS 15 is in a bootloop. Probably have to do a restore.

Yes, I have my 2018 all boxed up as trade in, but if I can return my 2021, it's going back. Even with trade in, hardly any new iOS benefits for me makes the math simple that spending >$1000 (the price differential going from a 2018 iPP 12.9 1TB to 2021 iPP 12.9 1TB) just for the mini-led is a dead deal.

There is even no reason to upgrade from the 2017 iPad Pro.
Rubbish - there are plenty of reasons. You just can’t think of any.

Future proofing oneself, needing more capacity, needing more speed, damaged device, desire.

Folk do whatever folk do, and it’s not up to anyone else to judge them.

Me, I’m tickled pink with my new M1 Pro and nothing I saw today - I repeat nothing - has changed my mind one little bit.

I'm curious... you favor the Mac over the iPad?

Part of me... honestly, wanna keep it. I wanna try out iPadOS 15 on it, see how the new multitasking features look. And there's the new shelf features for open windows... could prove useful on 16GB RAM models. And if I do decide to keep it... it will last me for a couple years.

Now, if I do return it... next year I'll be looking at another upgrade and I don't really see Apple doing much to improve this year's model. Glass back? Wireless charging? Idk. So, wait till 2023 for a new upgrade?

Shelf seems very App Expose-esque, which my soul depends on all the time. Multitasking seems like a bigger improvement thatn intially thought.

One thing for sure is I do see macOS pro apps (xcode and final cut pro) coming to iPad next year or in 2 years at wwdc. They cannot bring it out this year as it would only support M1 iPad and make other iPads redundant.

This year was a transition from A silicon chips to M silicon chips for iPads. Upcoming wwdc’s is where the game starts. This was just the prep. As next year they can say M2 iPad Pro and M1 iPad Pro will support pro apps.

ROFL
People expecting "justifications to buy M1 iPads" Hahaha
As I said outright M1 in iPad is a gimmick, iPad uses under 10% of it's performance; M1's primary aim is to drive sales of new iPads, nothing else.
Silly people expecting Apple to unleash M1 in iPad and what? Cannibalize macbooks sales? You are THAT naive?
iPad has it's niche. What silly people refuse to realize is that this niche is way smaller than you see in ads.

As far as I’m concerned, the M1 is just an A14X. Apple could have put the same M1 in the iPad and called it the A14X since the features specific to the Mac are disabled anyway. “M1” is just a name that the folks in marketing came up with. Those folks also decided it would presumably boost sales.

I hope that there aren’t too many people that bought it based on that marketing hype alone. There is very little reason to upgrade a 2018 or 2020 11” iPad Pro to the 2021 model. Same applies to the 12.9“ model unless you are upgrading for the mini LED display.

Well that was…disappointing.
I agree, concerned about privacy notices - Apple will have access to more of your personal information than ever before. Apps that are so called private, apart from Apple. Healthcare information that you share with your Doctor - but how many times do you have to consent to a Doctor sharing your information with other healthcare providers and insurance companies?
No MacBook Pro - I have been waiting almost 2 years to upgrade...
