Like it so far, much lighter and more modern.

Any ideas how to change the Download dock folder background colour back to dark? I don't like the new white background, it's harder to see images.

I love the look of it too. I actually thought that I would prefer the dark mode over the standard mode but this hasn't been the case. I did a clean install and mine is working perfectly with no problems.

As for me, there are some things that still look strange to me, but there are things that I instantly found way nicer than their Mavericks counterpart. E.g. the dock and the icons look beautiful imho (oh, and the dark dock and menubar scheme, let's not forget about it!). When playing with the beta, I started to love tha flat dock so much that I couldn't stand the 3D one in Mavericks so I put it on the left side of the screen where it uses a flatter design in Mavericks too. I also changed the system icons in Mavericks to the Yosemite ones. Surprisingly enough, they actually look sharper and better to me even on a non-retina device than the old skeumorphic icons. Helvetica Neue must look best on a retina screen, on my MBA it's not super crisp, but legible enough. However, I can imagine that on a non-retina, non-highres MBP (which has a lower pixel density than the MBA) it's too blurred.

Guys, I guess it will turn out to be a very good design direction in the end as things get smoothet out. Remember how iOS 7 used some very harsh green colors at the beginning and then they gently altered them (I mean the phone and messages icons)? I think the same will happen with Yosemite, if not with the incremental updates, but next year's version might be refined where it needs. Good thing of the "new Apple": they are indeed listening to the customers, and I don't doubt that in 1 or 2 years we all will remember Mavericks as we remember Jaguar or Tiger now. ;)

Catastrophe.

I really like it too. I love the UI, I love the dock, I love the notification centre and everything really. I really like the way Apple is heading with the look of their UI's.

… I'm what you would consider a light user. That, however, doesn't take anything away of me thinking that the OS is really beautiful, and for my usage works better than Mavericks. …

Agreed – I'm not on a mission to change people's opinions of the software.

It would be nice if more of the people who like (or love) the looks could realise the reasons for some other people disliking some aspects of the appearance.

A bit like … in my day job, I can observe any number of parts of things that are damaged or completely out of order, but I know that most users of those things will be blissfully unaware of the troublesome parts. Those parts are simply not required by the vast majority of people. Taking the word that you chose, let's call that group of people 'light users'.

If a user from another group is accustomed to taking advantage of those parts, the aggravation – from not having those parts perfect – is likely to be sometimes acute.

Now take me, the support guy or whatever, out of the equation. You have:
  • a person complaining about the state of things
  • light users hearing that complaint and finding no such thing wrong.
True: it's alright, there's nothing wrong. (As in, whatever's wrong has no relevance to the people who find things right.)

True: there's something wrong, maybe seriously wrong. (And the person or people affected can not expect total agreement from people who find the trouble irrelevant.)

Both 'sides' are correct. Naturally there are disagreements, and so on.

Sure, Apple has done some stuff that defies logic in the past, but Apple's defiance around Yosemite is gobsmacking. I fully understand why the end result pleases a majority of customers, but Apple could – should – have delivered equal amounts of pleasure to those people without so deeply upsetting the minorities. Considering what Apple was in the past, it's extraordinarily disappointing.

Just out of curiosity, could you elaborate on some of the misjudgements that Apple has made with Yosemite?

I shouldn't take this topic in that direction. Instead, take a look at some of what's in the 'looks terrible!' topic – I know, it's off-puttingly long but there are some gems from a variety of people.

Took me a few days to adjust but I now love it. My 2011MBP hasn't run this well in years. Safari is far more efficient and I love the look.

I have a 2011 MBP also but have not yet upgraded to Yosemite. Do you have the "hi-res" screen or the standard? I have the hi-res antiglare display on my 2011 MBP so I'm really wondering how Yosemite will look. I was at the Apple Store earlier and was looking at the (non retina) iMacs and I thought Yosemite looked horrible. Standard HD doesn't seem high enough to display Yosemite the way Apple intended. It's clearly designed for retina displays. Has anyone else noticed this?

The high-res MBP has the exact same PPI (128) as the 13" MBA, so you can take a look at yourself at an Apple Store. Or even better, you can just open up a screenshot on your MBP, go to fullscreen and see for yourself. Here is one I found that was made on a 15" high-res MBP.

I tried that out and it seemed okay but of course I can't play with anything so it's not much help. But I came across this review of Yosemite and this reviewers highly recommends not upgrading to Yosemite at this point. I certainly agree with the reviewer when he talks about iTunes. I have been using OS X since I think Tiger.

This is the best version of Mac OS X to date.

It's very deep, and I have yet to finish exploring all of its features.

Steve Jobs would be proud - this version is some of Apple's best work yet.

Just downloaded and installed Yosemite.. apart from small little things like not liking the new Finder icon and not having the frog sound for volume changes anymore.. i REALLY LIKE YOSEMITE!

The new Messages is REALLY AWESOME and I thought it'd take some time to get used to the new Safari but it's really clean and minimalist. I likey!

So far can't find any huge concerns with Yosemite and look forward to getting to know it some more :D

I have the standard anti-glare screen from 2011. I never liked all that glare on the retina. Once I made some adjustments on translucency and contrast it looks great. The font is my only real issue but that can be changed with 3rd party apps. So far I've been able to live with the font though.

But the efficiency has really stunned me. This MBP now flies, I had forgotten how fast it was when I bought it since Mavericks slowed it down so much.
I have the 17" MBP 750gb hd with 8gb ram.

“But it was all right, everything was all right, the struggle was finished. He had won the victory over himself. He loved Yosemite.”

Sorry, I used this same quote in another post.

Haha David A Cox, this guy sucks. He knows as much about Macs as my mum does. His videos are so basic that it's embarrassing.
Please read a proper review before you decide to upgrade or not. For me Yosemite has been the best OS X .0 release in a while, it's runs perfect on my 2013 Mac Book pro and I had zero issues so far.

Well do you have a "proper review" in mind that I can watch or read? I don't typically upgrade right away anyway. I usually wait until the .2 or .3 update before doing so.
