Fixed the problem

After trying some of the suggestions here, including deleting preferred networks, resetting the SMC, pRAM, repairing disk permissions and disk, I finally came to a solution because my friend @hmweinerman had the idea of deleting the preferences.plist file in the Library. To do this, you have to goto finder. Hit Go > Computer > Macintosh HD > Library > Preferences > SystemConfiguration > preferences.plist. I highly suggest copying this file and backing it up somewhere else on your computer, incase for some reasons something goes wrong, but this worked for me. Then delete the preferences.plist from that folder and restart your computer. WiFi fixed.

Went back to Maverick

I had the same issue. I'm working on a MBPro 2010 and had the same network issues. After restart network works and suddenly no network anymore. Ping to internal router ok, ping to an external adres gave no result.
So I went back to a Time Machine Backup of Maverick.
I'll wait for 10.10.1 to install Yosemite.
cheers
Tom

What kind of machine do you have?

For the record I have tried everything (except what was mentioned above) mentioned in this thread, and a thread going on over on apples support forms: https://discussions.apple.com/message/26876828#26876828

Nothing worked for me, except disabling my bluetooth.. as soon as I disable my bluetooth, all is well.

It appears that if your 5GHz wifi is using channel 149 or above then you'll have issues. I was having this issue with multiple MacBook Pros and an iMac - some clean installs others an upgrade from Mavericks. I changed my Asus router's 5GHz from Auto to a channel below 149 and all is well.

I'm seeing no issues on any of my Macs since making this change.

I hope this helps.

Gee I wish this was the case. MBP late-2011 on channel 35 5GHZ and it still drops at times.

Have any of you folks tried turning off the Bluetooth.. just to test.. I wonder if this solves the issue across the board for all...

My wifi now is flawless.. I know this can be a nuisance for most since a lot of folks use peripherals that require bluetooth... but just try it out.. I wonder if it works..

Sorry to hear that.

I'm streaming Netflix on my 2008 MBP and HBO Go on my 2012 MBP and so far no issues. Neither one of them could do this until I modified my 5GHz channel.

I'm running an ASUS RT-AC87 router.

I did try disabling Bluetooth. That didn't have a positive impact.

The only success I have had so far is modifying my 5GHz channel to be lower than 149.

I'm using Asus RT-AC68R but both my Netgear and Linksys routers exhibit 5ghz problems regardless of channel.

So what exactly is going on with people's wifi connections. For me, I don't believe it is actually disconnecting, but after a bit I'll go to reload a page on safari or do something internet related and it will just hang. For example, the loading bar for a page in safari will move maybe an inch, and then just stay there for a minute until it clicks again and loads the rest. Is this what others are experiencing?

This is what I'm experiencing and have experienced since the first beta in June. Its really irritating to say the least. Pages just hang.

I've reported this issue to Apple on the first day of GM1 for my 2012 rMBP and sent them 3 separate WiFi logs. I only received one response which was to send them more logs after the first log I attached. I can't believe they released Yosemite with this serious bug, I have to either suffer with slower internet on the 2.4 GHZ band or use a thunderbolt ethernet adapter and hang out with router.

My impression is that Apple believes that Internet is not a priority for Mac users and they can live very well without it. If you want internet, use windows.

I wasn't having drop off issues.. my main issue was my internet speed was CRAWLING... like .30 mbps when its usually around 20 mbps... At first I thought it was our connection at home.. but I learned quickly my machine was the culprit.. since upgrading to Yosemite.. I have since then turned off my bluetooth.. and all is working fine in the meantime.

OK - so I've now updated (clean install) a MacBook Pro Retina mid 2012 with Yosemite. I'm experiencing issues and my router 5GHz is configured to a channel below 149.

This is irritating.

The other MacBook Pros that I have seem to be OK.

This current MacBook Pro cannot even stay connected to the 5GHz wireless for more than a few seconds.

WTF.

Why is everybody complaining about slow internet? If Apple management release Yosemite like this they must have thought that 1994 was a very good time for internet users, and they want to give is back the feeling of 14k modems. After all the 90s were not bad at all.

I was able to isolate my loss of Internet to turning off time machine backups to my time capsule. Every time it backs uo, I lose my connection.

My wife and I both have mid-2012 MBAs. I sacrificed mine to be a Yosemite guinea pig while her MBA is still rocking ML 10.8.5 (we skipped Mavericks). I did a clean install of 10.10 from an SD card.

We have a single late-model Airport Extreme. On ML the wife's MBA can achieve Tx speeds of 300Mbps (as verified by option-clicking the WiFi icon in the menu bar); on Yosemite, my MBA tops out at 108Mbps. This is with the Air 15 feet from the access point with clear line-of-sight. Maintaining the connection isn't an issue but the speeds are terrible.

I was having pretty slow WIFI speeds after installing Yosemite (pictures were loading dial-up style!).

Then I read somewhere that the problem has to due with Bluetooth. So I turned off Bluetooth and now it is working fine.

Not sure why they are related, but seems to have been the issue for me.

I'm having this issue with a iMac late 2012. 5 GHz WiFi disconnects very frequently, especially when doing a Time machine backup to my Time Capsule.

I've got a first generation 15" Macbook Pro with Retina display. Upgraded to Yosemites yesterday.

I'm definitely having issues with the Wireless now. After the laptop has been asleep it won't detect or even see my primary home network. A reboot (so far) solves this and it connects, but this is not a fix.

My iPhone 5s, Nexus 7, Samsung S4 Mini, Mum's iPhone 4 and iPad 2 have absolutely no troubles with the wireless.

This has only started since upgrading to Yosemites.

I understand there would be teething issues... but I never had this upgrading to Mavericks last year.

Suggestion: don't do a wifi Time Machine until this is resolved..... can corrupt the backup

Urgh, a backup solution that doesn't handle network disconnects ??? Well, that's another reason why I'm not bothering with Time Machine...

Changing 5 GHz to channel below 149 works

Macbook Pro non-retina 15-inch mid-2012 would not connect to 5 GHz WiFi network on Time Capsule after upgrade to Yosemite, whereas MackBook Pro on Mavericks and iOS 8 devices still worked perfectly. Only 2.4 GHz WiFi was accessible after Yosemite (but with unusually slow connection speed). Advice on Bluetooth did not help, but changing the 5 GHz WiFi to a channel below 149 (in my case channel 48) worked perfectly. Thank you.

Same here with latest Time Capsule and iMac 27'' (late 2013). (after deleting all known networks, I did a clean install of yosemite)
