Yosemite is beautiful. It's fast, faster than Mavericks. It's stable, more stable than Mavericks. And it has awesome features.

It's not embarrassing at all. Get your stuff right.

what's up with all these 'apple screwed us' threads?

if you have a PROBLEM, ask for help. not everyone has the same issues. some of us are doing quite well in yosemite (really, my biggest issue is the notification icon blacked out...in dark mode).

these forums are a great place to get help; yet so many people are using the forum as a place to whine.

can't wait for next year's OS, when the process starts all over (why can't "whatever's next" be more like yosemite?)

ad infinitum...

Members post issues they have, others post about not having issues.
Many factors play into this, how many antivirus crap programs were installed when it was upgraded to 10.10? Other non compatible programs? Is someone experiencing a hardware issue?

Did you try a clean install and migrate only the data over?

Lots of factors go into issues and these issues need to be worked out. Not necessarily on apples end.

People are so quick to jump on others and lack the ability to even help themselves.

If this was slightly reworked and made more generic, then it should be a default warning when submitting a new thread in this section, especially the third party issues like anti-virus rubbish. I enjoy reasoned responses like this.

I have no problems with Yosemite. Are there some things that need to be addressed? Sure. But is it as bad as the snivelers here indicate? Nope.

You want something to whine and snivel about - use Windows 8.1.

Bah ... what a stupid comment. If you like OS X it's fine, you really need to talk bad about Windows for your justification ? IMO both OS's are good and very different.

Yosemite is great and works smoothly, except for the Wi-Fi issues. I've had these Wi-Fi issues since Mavericks, but they've since carried on to Yosemite and even intensified (I can't enjoy a single night without my wireless internet disconnecting at least five times. Yes, it's that bad). But; putting my Wi-Fi issues aside, Yosemite is great. I liked Lion a lot more though, simply because my Wi-Fi actually worked with no issues back then.

Ever considered it's not the OS?

i'm not asking for help. I'm ranting.

Apply shouldn't release software that is fundamentally broken with its wifi

I'm sure they see these forums - so I'm expressing my anger, thanks all.

Apple need to fix this problem. Until then, I'm unhappy. One loyal customer very unhappy. This should matter to them.

Boohoo indeed.

hahaha, funny.

I had WiFi issues with the Betas, but so far on the final version it is rock solid.

That's on an Early '09 Whitebook.

a Mid '12 13" cMBP

a late '09 17" iMac

and my Mid '14 15" rMBP

I actually agree with this (although Win 8.1 really is a pile of crap. Give me 7 or the Win '10 tech preview over 8.1 any day)

----------

These minor bugs should not be here, especially because Yosemite is supposed to run with a small variety of hardware. That makes such bugs more acceptable under Windows than under OS X.

Every OS has had minor bugs.

Certainly every version of OS X has had them.

IMO Yosemite has been a more stable release than Snow Leopard in its 10.X.0 release.

There is no such thing as perfect code.

Haven't had any issues since Beta 1. I had some problems initiating calls from my rMBP, but that turned out to be a simple FaceTime issue on my phone and unrelated to Yosemite.

There are some UI bugs and wifi problems but overall I don't hate it as much as I thought I would.

That new finder icon needs to stop smiling at me though. That fisher-price abomination is patronizing me. Fortunately, I hide my dock, and use gestures, keyboard shortcuts, and Spotlight more than anything else, but every now and then I need to dock, and want to punch that smiley thing.

Do a new install. Copy things manually over. Do not recreate from a time machine backup.

Your problems are most likely gone.

While the upgrade works fine for most people some quirks are here. The macbook from my girl isnt happy with Yosemite either, it drops its connection too - I booted my DP3 Version(!) on an external drive on her macbook - everything is fine and working. There is problem with the install. And you are going to be happy with a fresh image.

That should not happen yes - but the first thing you do with an windows upgrade and something doesnt work? Do a new install. Its the same with every software something doesnt work? Install new and most of the time it works again. Updating software has always been are more difficult task than starting with a fresh install and I can say as a Software Developer updating old installs with new stuff is a pain in the ass.

I just changed the Yosemite font to Lucida Grande, using Version 1.2 of

this: https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B_u6AjwB3JxSR19USk9CSWhMTnM&usp=sharing

download link.

Installation is a breeze and I am very happy with the results. Lucida Grande, LCD font rendering off and reduced transparency option did the trick on my 1280 x 800 MBP display.

However, when you compare with Windows 7 on the same display, readability is still poor.

Thanks for the heads up !

Avoiding Apple's defaults but still, Yosemite looks worse

I agree: comparing those two screenshots, Windows 7 is less harsh on the eye.

With a recognition that Yosemite is, by default, less accessible than previous operating systems from Apple: again, aim for the Accessibility pane of System Preferences.

Try enabling (checking/ticking) increased contrast.

Thank you very much. I enabled increased contrast ( which in turn reduces transparency as well ) and I agree, the readability got better again.

Quite happy with the result now !

EVERYONE is having handoff issues, the ones that aren't are not using it, or tried it once and it happened to work. There's a lot of work for Apple to do on the Bluetooth LE side of OSX (iOS works perfectly well)

There are more bugs with Yosemite than i've ever encountered with an OSX upgrade before, thats not to say there are more, just that i've come across them more often, i've fixed a few with work arounds, most related to new or changed features though - the core of OSX is still solid as a rock.
