Thank you very much. I enabled increased contrast ( which in turn reduces transparency as well ) and I agree, the readability got better again.

Quite happy with the result now !

I would make sure LCD font smoothing is off as well.

EVERYONE is having handoff issues, the ones that aren't are not using it, or tried it once and it happened to work. There's a lot of work for Apple to do on the Bluetooth LE side of OSX (iOS works perfectly well)

There are more bugs with Yosemite than i've ever encountered with an OSX upgrade before, thats not to say there are more, just that i've come across them more often, i've fixed a few with work arounds, most related to new or changed features though - the core of OSX is still solid as a rock.

Agree. Beside I want a easily readable UI I use my MBP mainly as a portable Unix System. For this it works great and I do not even touch features like Handover, Continuity or iCloud Drive.

So for me it's good enough, for others it may be sometimes frustrating.

I did this already, thank you.

i'm not asking for help. I'm ranting.

Apply shouldn't release software that is fundamentally broken with its wifi

I'm sure they see these forums - so I'm expressing my anger, thanks all.

Apple need to fix this problem. Until then, I'm unhappy. One loyal customer very unhappy. This should matter to them.

Boohoo indeed.

hahaha, funny.

Shame on you, that's why i have a double partition

You can't expect a system just released to be 100% stable, you should have done a backup

… ran away …

A charitable explanation: the person may be an infrequent poster.

17th, 18th, 21st and 24th October – on each date, one post about Yosemite.

(You wouldn't want everyone to be as responsive as me, would you?)

Ever considered it's not the OS?
It has to be. I've done everything from bring my router closer, get a new router, update my hosts file, delete my network preferences etc. and it still bugs me to no end. And if that isn't enough evidence that it isn't the OS, then how come the other computers in this house (which are running on Windows 8) seem to connect seamlessly with no problems?

hi all,

ever been invited to a lovely dinner party and when you got there all there was to eat was tripe?

No?

Me neither...

Then why is apple embarrassing us with this free yosemite tripe?
It's like ios7 for your mac. Poorly tested garbage.

Safari wakes and freezes. Wifi drops out. Handoff has its issues. Makes your mac slow to respond...

works beautifully for me.

You've never considered it could be a hardware issue with the Mac?

(knock on wood) I've had no issues with any Mac OS and Wifi.

I just changed the Yosemite font to Lucida Grande, using Version 1.2 of

this: https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B_u6AjwB3JxSR19USk9CSWhMTnM&usp=sharing

download link.

Installation is a breeze and I am very happy with the results. Lucida Grande, LCD font rendering off and reduced transparency option did the trick on my 1280 x 800 MBP display.

However, when you compare with Windows 7 on the same display, readability is still poor.

Thanks for the heads up !

MBA 2011 Font smoothing enabled + corrected color profile (not sure if it affects the screenshot) + safari 106% zoom (more or less matches the chrome or retina/800p default font zoom ).

IMO text in my screenshot looks more readable than your windows 7 example.

And as for the whole OS UI, the only place where I've spotted the font to be still broken (not sharp enough) is in dark mode after highlighting menu item. Everywhere else I think it now looks spot on (if font smoothing is enabled that is).

Actually, I didn't. But why would it be? I've never banged my Mac, poured water on it while it was working, pulled its plug while it was running etc. I don't see any possibilities for hardware damage, and I don't believe my Mac's hardware would just spontaneously break for no reason.

Sorry, disagree. I have been running continuity and handoff since the release of iOS 8.1 and have not had an issue. I get the icons appearing on both my iPhone and my rMBP clicking them takes me to safari pages, contacts, notes, and emails as they should all as they were on the other device, I have SMS messages on my rMBP and have made and received calls using my rMBP. I also have the automatic hotspot appearing.

So not EVERYONE is having handoff issues. Many people are, and therefore I agree it is buggy and needs fixing. From the look of it, because some people are getting it working correctly, it's something silly that'll hopefully be patched in 10.10.1

Hardware does spontaneously break without reason. However it is too common an occurrence for that to be the reason IMO.

I had WiFi issues throughout testing whilst Yosemite was in Beta. That was on a 2012 spec rMBP, and others are finding similar issues on other Macs of different ages.

It seems to me that a config file of some kind is being corrupted.

Yeah. the upgrade can most certanly mess up configuration files from time to time.

Had a WiFi issue myself after the upgrade where the WiFi speed was cut in half and sometimes the WiFi connection was unresponsive.

However, noticed my WiFi connection list looked weird, so I recreated all connections and then restarted both my computer and router. After that my WiFi worked as it should.

Okay; let's say it's a hardware issue. How would I go about with checking it? I don't have that much experience with electronics in general, and much less so with Macs, so I'm afraid to cause further damage by inspecting my Mac.

Reboot holding down D. This will boot into Apple Hardware test (pre 2013) or Apple Diagnostics (2013) on.

I think it looks nice.

Unfortunately I don't use my Mac for looks - I use it as my computer. That's where Yosemite falls apart. It's truly terrible. Laggy. Slow. Ignoring clicks meaning i've to click 3 times on something to register a tap.

Appalling on my MacBook Pro.

I can't believe you can have a beta and still release something so terrible.

Very disappointed with an Apple OS for the first time ever.
