I think it looks nice.

Unfortunately I don't use my Mac for looks - I use it as my computer. That's where Yosemite falls apart. It's truly terrible. Laggy. Slow. Ignoring clicks meaning i've to click 3 times on something to register a tap.

Appalling on my MacBook Pro.

I can't believe you can have a beta and still release something so terrible.

Very disappointed with an Apple OS for the first time ever.

seriously...ask for help instead of whining. obviously not everyone is having these issues, so it's YOUR experience with yosemite, not a general issue.

reset the PRAM. reinstall 10.10. ask for ideas, help. better to FIX the issues than simply complain.

nothing personal, just tired of reading these posts where people complain...instead of value-ing a forum of geeks and dedicated users...who may be able to HELP.

Don't read it then... You're not helping either by just whining the whiners... Stay off the thread if you can't help...

Thanks for the feedback - but why should an end user have to trawl forums on getting an OS update to work properly? :S

It's Apple's fault.

Perhaps the home screen of Yosemite should say 'Reset your pram to stop this being trash' as opposed to 'Sign into iCloud'

I would like that all those claiming people do a clean Yosemite install first. Then measure performance, memory usage and check functionality.

Not just updating years old installations, not checking the consistency of the filesystems and migrating years old application bugs as well.

Updating from the latest version of Mavericks here. . . which was awesome.

To the current version of Yosemite.

I'm doing nothing wrong as an end user.

The product is trash.

I'm not an Apple fanboy at all, so you cannot expect to read from me any fanboyish statements. I use OS X and Windows, whenever I find one Operating System is more appropriate to my specific task than the other.

But you are wrong, Yosemite is not trash. You know that there is more out in this ITC world than OS X and Windows ? You know what an Operating System is and what it does ?

Yes. I've been using Mac OS for years - and i'm an Apple fanboy.

So it takes something very bad for me to make the above statement. It's so slow. Lag. It feels like a Beta. Apple are capable of much much better.

Mavericks was much better.

Hi all,

Ever been invited to a lovely dinner party and when you got there all there was to eat was tripe?

No?

Me neither...

Then why is Apple embarrassing us with this free Yosemite tripe?
It's like iOS7 for your Mac. Poorly tested garbage.

Safari wakes and freezes. Wifi drops out. Handoff has its issues. Makes your Mac slow to respond...

The only thing I don't like is not having a choice between a 2D or 3D dock.

Installed it on 3 machines and they ran all very well. Don't understand why it "so slow" for you.

Break down your issues.

- Install Yosemite ( clean, including recreating partitions ) and test it.
- Then install every application you use with your corresponding user data and retest, application by application.

I am sure, this way you can sort out your problems. ATM you don't talk about them, you just say it's trash which is not good enough for any progress. BTW, a GUI is a cosmetic thing as long as it works and has not much to do with the functionality of an OS.

It's not trash, its you. If many, many others are having no issues, it has to be you doing something wrong, your system, your programs, what you installed on it that might not be coded for Yosemite, borked download of Yosemite, some hardware issue, etc.

If it was wide spread, than we would support your ranting, but those of us that know what we are doing with a clean install, current apps/programs that are not old, not to mention hardware that might be attached that is bad or something else you omitted could be the cause. No sympathy from me. If I can have a good running system doing it right, than others could as well. :p

Erm. . . .it is pretty widespread. Many many people are moaning about Yosemite.

Also - it's hardly me when I updated from the last version of Mavericks to Yosemite. What could I do wrong apart from download and install it from the App Store :D It's been slow running nothing but Safari. It's an Apple issue. Perhaps in a few updates we'll get to the final version.

It runs fine on my iMac (one of the super slim models). . .and I have exactly the same Apps, and exactly the same programmes.

Why you don't revert to Mavericks then, wait a little, give us some time to breath and continue to be a fanboy ? Apple did not say you need to update on day 1.

I suspect there are millions more with successful, trouble-free upgrades carried out though.

As with any system upgrade that doesn't work out, simply revert to your backup and previous version, remove the frustration then work out a plan to reapply it if that is what you want to do. EG repair permissions and or do a clean install vs an upgrade.

Macs are systems, not devices so there is a much wider variety of installation variables - some of which can't be predicted and handled within the installation.

many people on these forums...which is a very-small percentage of the os x user base. most people just use their macs, they don't hang out here.

either way...it's running well on your imac? doesn't that suggest that you're having a singular problem, and that it's not the OS in general?

you've got a community here to help. ask for help...

Many many people are moaning about Yosemite.

Many people were moaning about Mavericks. You say you had no issues.

Many people moaned about Mountain Lion.
Many people moaned about Lion.
Many people moaned about Snow Leopard.
Many people moaned about Leopard
and so forth and so forth and so forth.

You're angry and I understand that. You can either let people try to help you, or you can continue to act like a petulant child having a tantrum at the mall and keep throwing around generalised comments without proof, or substance. The choice is yours.

Why can't people ever understand this?

None of these are typical.

I had a few issues with early betas, but by the time of the third public beta (the one just before the first release candidate) most had been dealt-with. For our four Macs in the family, Yosemite runs like a dream. I can only conclude there's something wrong with your machine, perhaps some software that is broken or needs updating.

Bottom line: it's not a Yosemite problem, it's a your-machine problem of some sort. I understand your frustration, but passivity and whining won't fix the problem. And it is fixable.

i think Yosemite being free is Apple's way of bringing back the OG Apple headz

Yosemite & Safari r dope now

to me its a $ign, they're no longer catering to the yuppies, i have a g00d feeling OS X is back in tune with its ROOTS after this update, and I'm excited about Apple's future for the first time in a long time

peace

I updated my late 2013 Macbook Pro from Mavericks to Yosemite and to be fair I wasn't happy with performance, it would freeze when I space-barred through video files and ram usage was particularly high.

A total clean install solved all my problems and it is now running just fine. Obviously legacy crap can't be fixed by an over the top update. I have always done a clean install ever since snow leopard and have experienced fewer problems than I read on here.

Just my two penny worth.

I had an issue with Wifi too, got rid of my garbage Cisco router and bought a Asus Router, problem solved. Im 50 feet away from the router and I stream video with out a hitch. Blazing fast. Might want to look into http://accessagility.com/products/wifiperf.html ...It helped me with the placement of my router.

Sorry, disagree.

Have you had to reboot or restart either of these devices yet? Have you also got an iPad? Try throwing that into the mix as well for all 3 to work at the same time (never got that, I managed to get 90% of the way, but the iPad wouldn't pick anything up from the Mac)

The calling and texts are irrelevant as they use wifi, the flakiness is due to the Bluetooth LE on Macs. So i'll be interested to see how Apple can patch it for more reliability as it works flawlessly between iOS devices. I'm sure if you tested long enough you'd eventually see the icon not appearing on your Mac at some point.

I can't test with an iPad as I have a third gen, which isn't compatible.

However I have had not had to reboot this Mac since I upgraded it to Yosemite, nor have I rebooted my phone since I installed iOS 8.1 I swapped between my iPhone and Mac while typing this. It has been faultless.

On my 2007 iMac Yosemite is generally wizzing along. In 15 years I've never done a clean install and have never had any problems with a single upgrade. There are a small number of talented people who have a knack for messing up even the simplest of things and then blame Apple. What a joke they are.

For me, Yosemite has been running like an absolute dream. Its faster then Mavericks, its as stable as Mavericks, and has a beautiful interface. The only app (notice, singular!) I have had a problem with is VirtualBox when trying to mount a disc in Windows. The VM crashes and thats it. I need to reboot the machine to get back in. I am expecting Oracle to release an update soon, but I don't use Windows enough for this to be a deal breaker for me. This is also an issue with a 3rd party dev, not Apple.

With 10.9 I shed my Time Machine backups spanning 4 years with a fresh install of Mavericks, so I didn't have much of a long log of OSes to worry about in my backup. Regardless, I always, always do a fresh install of the OS then restore via Migration Assistant. That is what I did this time.

The only thing I dislike about Yosemite is the fact that it converts most/all SSD drives to CoreStorage, which I don't care much for. Luckily a Terminal command or two reverts the drive back to standard GUID and all is good.

Now, I have been beta testing Yosemite on my Mac Pro since DP1 back in June and it has definitely change and is an amazing OS. I used PB1 on my rMBP which eventually became my primary OS by mid-September. On my Mac Pro the interface looks beautiful even without a Retina display (24" 1080p monitor).

I have to give Apple props, Yosemite is mostly good. Its the first OS since Snow Leopard that I have been able to tell people "Yes, absolutely install it" since Day 1 (except SL had to be purchased, Yosemite is free).

Now, I hope Apple moves some of the OS X devs to iOS because iOS 8 is a buggy, messy hell and needs fixing ASAP.
