Those having issues are being mis-directed. This is a standard method for ordering service parts that are ordinarily not sold separately. For example, if you have lost a single AirPod, you can buy a single AirPod to replace it, through Apple Support, by ordering a service part.

I certainly believe the OP because this is how Apple has always operated for issues like these.

As to what you will receive when you place a service part order... it won't be in retail packaging, and it will either come in plain brown or a plain white box, with no accessories (e.g. no Lightning cable as you'd get buying a silver one).

Don't let them redirect you to sales, instead as them to treat it as though you had a faulty keyboard/trackpad/mouse, and to see what service part options are available to them.

Well when I asked service support for a replacement keyboard as mine is faulty. They said we can send the white version and make a note on system..so that whenever the space grey is available we will then look to replace that..so I don’t think the OP is correct.

I have tried this six times using Chat/Calling Apple Sales Support/Tech support -- no luck at all (even when I show them this discussion link)

Actually, I am posting in regards to this as I work for Apple Chat and just had a customer direct me to this link with claims to purchasing this Space Gray Track Pad separately, and this is actually not possible. On the "configure" page for the iMac Pro it clearly states "Space Gray accessories are available only at the time of your iMac Pro purchase." which is hopefully just something temporary, but this is not yet an option. The screenshot you've posted is actually the agent confirming you will have warranty on all accessories and the iMac itself, however this is NOT the agent confirming that these are available for purchase separately. To be completely honest, as chat employees we actually have the least authority of all associates.

If you are actually an Apple Support rep - which I doubt because posting here will be breaching your contract - you should speak to your line manager to clarify this because you are wrong. Apple service personnel (not retail support/chat) can procure products and parts through a different channel to sales/retail, complete with their own part numbers and this happens literally tens of thousands of times a day.

I actually am, and this is not breaching any contract, either way I've given my two weeks as of last week so I truly do not care, and in the ORIGINAL thread they mention opening the APPLE CHAT, which I am, and they mention purchasing SPACE GRAY accessories for their iMac Pro separately, which is 100% not possible. Please try chatting in with us Apple Sales Chat and let me know your response.

Yes you are in breach of contract. For someone that works at Apple you should probably know what contracts you signed. Doesn't matter if you put in your two weeks, you are still an employee and in breach. In addition, I'm positive you signed an NDA agreement as well, which will most likely keep you in contract for three years after you leave.

  • Personal websites by employees cannot be used to discuss Apple in any way. Employees are also restricted from commenting on any Apple-related websites. (Boo!)
  • Apple has a zero-tolerance policy on spreading rumors, and employees are not to engage in rumor discussion with customers. Instead, employees have to say something along the lines of, “Apple does not comment on rumors about decisions, products, programs, or promotions that have not been officially announced by Apple.”
  • Interaction with customers outside of business purposes is prohibted. “Do not use or discuss any information regarding customers for any purpose. This includes contacting customers for social reasons or soliciting outside business.”
  • Apple requests that employees differentiate their work and private email addresses. “You have been given a free .mac/.me email address to use for non-work related emails. Please use that email or another personal email address for those types of communications.
On while on the topic of that. Who would really actually make their username "AppleChat", unless they are intentionally trying to get caught. Or doesn't have a clue what their employment contract is.

Well the OP has now provided proof that he has ordered the trackpad in Grey. So if you still don't believe him, unfortunately, thats on you.

  1. You have breached your contract. There is a reason no one around here posts saying "hey I work for Apple".
  2. The OP was clear - and I was clear - that this was product support/service chat, not sales chat.

Apologies OP if I'm not understanding this whole thing.

It looks like you're trying to get a replacement for a space gray trackpad, and not a new trackpad... which I believe is possible as a normal after sales customer service transaction.

What I believe is not possible (currently) is to order a new space gray accessory if it wasn't ordered with the original iMac Pro order. Have I misunderstood? Apologies again as I have not read all the replies in the post.

Never mind... just realized that they just created a replacement transaction to order a new trackpad for you. That's great!!

I've got an email saying it's shipped, I'll post an update once I get it.

I'm still not convinced Apple wouldn't sell keyboard/mouse/trackpad to iMac Pro owners afterwards - especially Apple, who pays so much attention to design, would just force the customers to mix up grey and white accessories. Not mentioning that it would also result in less money for Apple, which wouldn't happen in a million years :D

Please, if you get time, could you post the part number of it when it arrives? It should be on the packaging somewhere and probably in the format ABCD1E/F.

Besides the serial number, what else info is needed for purchase of the replacement space grey parts? Will a non-iMac Pro owner be able to get these? :p

BIG thanks to the OP for this! I contacted chat support through the iOS Support app. Straight up told him I wanted to order a replacement part number 661-08956. He looked it up, sent me a link to input payment info, done. Got the email confirmation for “SVC,MAGIC TRACKPAD 2,GRAY”. I do own an iMac Pro, and it’s associated with the Apple ID I contacted support with.

Can anyone check out what the part number for an US English keyboard is? I already have the trackpad and mouse, but I'm interested in an English Keyboard (not international, only US). I wonder if I can sent a replacement for it?

I contacted support, asked for the space grey trackpad because I wasn't able to buy one with the default config. I asked for a service part. They did just that, sent me one (at $162 including tax.) "SVC; MAGIC TRACKPAD 2, GRAY"

It was coded as a replacement part, with no return - technically a sale. It's convoluted, but possible and the person was most helpful.

Replacement parts are handled the same.

I just ordered mine! Thanks for the tip. I had to contact them twice (the first guy didn't know what he was doing). The second time went much smoother!

Same procedure here. Got tracking number. Should arrive Tuesday.

Clearly they linked it as repair to the iMac Pro in my account. They checked my complete address. It seems that a serial number itself is not sufficient.

Thanks to the OP.
