The iPhone 8 Plus is the best phone ever made

it's not about "relaxing", it's about you not getting it. Some have returned their Max phones and are happier with other devices. For some, they are happiest with it, it depends on the person.

Your opinion is not universally accepted by all sources or people that this is the best iPhone.
Hence, the existence of this very thread as just one person's opinion.
FGS it’s best if you’re looking for new phone. If you’re tech enthusiast and don’t mind the price tag. You’re not getting it.

I know not everyone need the latest tech, but I see so many people complain here about Max this Max that. Either they’re justifying their self not getting the Max or don’t have the money to afford it.

We are all tech enthusiasts to a point. What’s the difference between someone justifying the purchase of an 8+ and someone doing the same for an XS Max? You seem to be implying that because the 8+ is not this years device then it somehow can’t possibly be desired by fellow tech enthusiasts? I’m struggling to see your point.

It’s possible to enjoy the latest tech and agree the XS is perhaps technically the best iPhone to date, but have the view it’s not several hundred dollars better due to very small incremental improvements. It’s no surprise there will be many tech enthusiasts who feel they get a great deal with the $700 iPhone 8+ whilst still being interested in what Apple brings to the market with current offerings.

^^^This I don’t agree with.
It’s not small incremental improvement. It’s major improvement over 8 Plus.

The following reasons :

. Big 6.5 OLED full edge to edge display is alone enough a major upgrade over 8 Plus

. iP68 water resistant

. Face-ID so futuristic

. Stereo audio recording ( to alot who recorded videos)

. Vastly improved camera

. Dual Sim

. List goes on...

To each their own. It’s huge upgrade over previous iPhone’s.

None of that is particularly exciting to me and I think that list just goes to show how much smartphones have peaked of late. When we are getting excited over slightly bigger screens and a different method to unlock a phone, I think my point about incremental updates is very valid. Then again if that is enough for some then great! It’s serves a decent segment of the market.

No. The display is not slightly bigger it’s significantly bigger than 8 Plus. It’s just like jumping from 4.7 to 5.5 inch.

Face-ID is completely different and more hassle free way to unlock your iPhone. Too compelling.

Some people just love huge foreheads and huge chins I guess. To each his own with provolone!

You probably value that a bit more than I would. TouchID is hardly a hassle to use let’s be honest. It’s a simple operation that unlocks a phone in less than a second. FaceID is the new alternative and not something that would influence me to pay more than £500 more for. The screen part is great if you’re in need of a slightly taller display but again it’s not a fact that those points are important to everyone.

Imagine you see a mansion that you want to buy. It’s full of paintings, beautiful furniture, a game room, an indoor pool. Wow! Would your decision to purchase it depend on whether you gain entry through the front door via a fingerprint sensor or Face ID? Isn’t the access method utterly irrelevant as long as it’s fast and secure? Why all the obsession with how we unlock our phones?

. With a notch that hides content, pwm causing eye strain for some, and the same viewable content for any 16:9 formatted video as the plus with the remainder of the screen letterboxed. A home bar blocking content as well. Try not to get too carried away with your on-paper statistics. Until videos leave the 16:9 native ratio, and I am not seeing much of it, then the Max is displaying the same size video as the Plus versions.

. iP68 water resistant
. Honestly how many people gain by leaving a phone in 1m of water vs 1.5m of water for up to 1.5 hours lol?

. Face-ID so futuristic
. Futuristic yet causing me to use passcode more in a week than months on other phones. Have to hold it right side up, far enough away from Face in order for it to read correctly, can’t use at certain angles while flat on a desk. And in addition to all that, you still have to swipe to get in even after it recognizes your face lol. Great for you. Not impressed here.

.
Stereo audio recording ( to alot who recorded videos)
. I do like this, for the 2-3 times a year I would utilize it.

. Vastly improved camera
. In low light situations I see some improvement. In daylight and ideal lighting conditions with HDR enabled on the Max and 8 Plus, it’s a wash.

. Dual Sim
. Lol. Great for some. No need here.

. List goes on...
Not really

To each their own. It’s huge upgrade over previous iPhone’s (For you).
For many, it is indeed a huge upgrade. For many others, not so much. I have both the Max and the 8 Plus. The Max is nice, but a huge upgrade over the 8 Plus? For me, hardly. I think your posts could be taken much more seriously if you stopped trying to make blanket statements for the entire viewing audience. Your opinion applies to one person....you.

Are you being serious? The 4.7' to 5.5" not only provided a taller screen, but a wider screen as well all the while keeping the same 16:9 aspect ratio. The jump from 5.5" to 6.5" includes the ears next to the notch so you are giving screen credit to a notch that hides content. Furthermore, if you watch any videos in landscape mode from youtube, Netflix, etc that use the native 16:9 aspect, the bezels on the Plus are matched by the black letter-box on the Max. The videos are the same size (maybe a mm difference?). So no, it is not even close to jumping from 4.7" to 5.5". It got taller in portrait mode and that is it.

As for Face-ID being hassle free? It has it's own limitations. Trying doing it with sunglasses on, a scarf, a winter hat, the phone in landscape or upside down, the phone to close to you such as in bed, the phone laying at arm's length flat on a desk. Far from compelling. Both have pros and cons.

Listen, you love the Max and think it is way better than the 8 Plus. Good. For. You. I have both and I don't see what you do but that is ok. Differences in opinion happen all the time. However myself and many others choose to try and have mature conversations around the two devices....not have a d*** measuring contest based on the phone we use.

Because Apple have told us FaceID is the future and this means regardless of whether TouchID is slightly faster and an acceptable biometric method elsewhere, on an iPhone is now ‘archaic’ and ‘so 2017’. I say that with my tongue firmly in my cheek.

I think both methods work well and in my view I think smartphone makers are struggling to come up with new compelling features. FaceID was a direction they took that enabled them to get the screen bigger and maintain a slim design but in all honesty I don’t think TouchID was inferior by any stretch. We now have a bezel obsession online too where the classic iPhone design is suddenly ridiculed by a minority as ‘out of date’ and ‘ancient’ when it’s still a very popular product. We’ve reached a point where iPhone users are arguing amongst themselves over a few millimetres of bezel and projecting a superiority because they perceive the latest design as a must have for everyone.

I can only compare this to an argument I witnessed about tyre brands on a BMW forum years ago where a detail 99% of people would miss became something of a status symbol for the faux rich lol.

iPhone XS Max is the best iPhone ever made. Soory for folks who can’t afford it.

How old are you? That’s a serious question. Most of us here can afford what we want. The price isn’t the issue, some don’t want a phablet phone. Others don’t want cellular connectivity problems, or WiFi problems, or yellow screens, or poor battery life, or PWM issues causing eye strain. Just because many people don’t like what you own, doesn’t mean they are poor or cannot afford things. I own a house, have multiple vehicles (and own the titles to them), 800+ FICO, savings, 401k, a pension plan, so I can afford what I want within reason. Just because you fell for some marketing doesn’t mean everyone but you has a financial issue. Grow up kid.

I don’t understand why you folks are so triggered. I said Max is better than 8 Plus and it technically is.

Now listen People who don’t want it or like it will find thousand reasons to complain or dislike it.
Ex-
Face-ID sucks
Notch cuts the screen
Price to high
Yellow tint
Headache
Charging issues
WiFi issues
Etc....

Now I have both iPhone’s XS / XS Max/ 8 Plus. And I admit I have zero issues with any of my devices. No headaches no charging issues no WiFi issues no yellow screen.

If you like iPhone’s like iOS there’s absolutely no reason not to get XS Max. It’s one beautiful piece of tech.

Nobody is ‘triggered’, you entered into a debate suggesting you felt ‘sorry for people who don’t own an XS Max’. You were challenged on your points, some of which you’ve responded to and that is the point of a discussion/debate. You can’t just pop in and make a point insinuating your opinion is fact and then get upset at getting challenged.

Your last point is another opinion. Everybody here likes iPhones and iOS or we wouldn’t be members here, but not everyone will buy an XS Max by choice. You don’t have to agree with people’s reasons, but it pays to respect that everyone has a unique set of buying preferences.

I wouldn't say that was a fair or comparable analogy. Think bout how many times you enter your house a day against how many times you unlock your phone? The way you unlock your phone is a huge part of the overall user experience when you want to perform tasks on the go efficiently. I enter my house once or twice a day maximum, if I did it as many times a day as I unlock my phone i would care massively about the method of doing so.

Suppose Face ID had been introduced before Touch ID. We would be all excited about how Touch ID is so much better than Face ID.
