I can't stand unresponsiveness/lagginess on my devices. Basically every device up to the 6S plus noticeably slowed down after the next major update.

iPhone X was probably my overall favorite, followed by my 13PM. I never really liked the photos the 11PM took for some reason.

To get the iPhone 3G I queued up at 4 AM at a small Softbank shop in Kyoto. I had to pay $1,000 out of pocket because I was an exchange student on a year-long visa. I'd never do that nowadays. So, so stupid.

2010 - iPhone 3GS - 32GB (2 years)
2012 - iPhone 5 - 64GB (2 years)
2014 - iPhone 6 - 64GB (3 years)
2017 - iPhone 8 Plus - 256GB (4 years)
2021 - iPhone 13 Pro Max - 512GB (planned 5 years)

Honestly, the jumps became smaller and the phones are so good, I will try to keep the 13PM for 5y. I also double the storage every time.

3g for 6 years (2009-2013)
5 only a few months till it went swimming
5s 9 years (2013 - 2022)
14pro as of today

Forced upgrade because Verizon won’t let me keep using the 5s. I would have been happy to keep going. Works flawlessly. I had a new battery put in some years ago, and it was like a new phone.

I know, a big jump, but I use my iPad Pro for most things. I badly wanted a good camera In my pocket, though.

X, 11 Pro and 13 Pro were the standout devices that genuinely felt like a stellar upgrade. In hindsight the 12 Pro and Xs were pointless releases.

I didn't upgrade to the 14 Pro as I'd just be setting fire to >£1200 as it's almost identical to the 13 Pro. Aside from a few minor camera updates, there's nothing new. I'm now on a 2 year upgrade cycle unless Apple drops the ball again next year.

I actually would have kept the 6S+ until this year but I accidentally took it for a swim in the ocean last year and it slowly died. It's a shame because that was my favorite of all the phones I owned.

Edit: Almost forgot: 11 Pro, Space Grey, 2021 - ? (Work Phone issued by employer)

3gs (for 2 years)

Used to change phone every 2 years but iPhone is too expensive nowadays 😅

6Plus - awful, had the touch disease.
8Plus - also awful, but wanted the big phone.
XS MAX - My favorite by far, the shift to OLED was great, and would still be using it, but it developed a teeny tiny crack in the camera area, which I didn’t know was there. Took some underwater video and the thing totally freaked out. A couple months later, it went back to working like nothing had happened. But it’s too late, it’s the kids phone for games as a treat…
12 PRO MAX - current phone. Didn’t want to upgrade, but no one had a new XS MAX in stock for less than getting a new one. Now the phone speaker is dead.

  • 3G - bought it towards the end of 2008 i think. i think maybe september because the original iPhone and 3G was contract only but then it came out to PAYG later in the year. so that was my first iphone
  • 3GS - bought in late 2009.
  • 4 - i remember queuing up from about 5AM outside my local Apple store to get it on launch day. afterwards i was going into all different phone shops trying to find a MicroSIM card lol. got rid of it after a couple months because of the antenna-gate issue lol.
  • 4S - first one i preordered online. until 2020 it was the most expensive phone i had ever bought (about £600 i think) and the phone i owned the longest (until late 2013).

totally skipped the iPhone 5 because I had my 4S. when the 5S/5C came out I actually bought both them but returned them. at that point i sold my 4S and didn't get a new iPhone so went to Android.

i remember buying an iPhone 6S Plus but returned it. went back to Android.

November 2020 is when I bought the iPhone 12 Pro Max at launch. At £1,150 it became the most expensive phone I ever bought and if for some reason it doesn't last another month then I'll have had it longer than I had my 4S. I plan on keeping it until the iPhone 15 next year but if that time comes and I'm still happy with the 12 PM i might just keep it another year :) Need to wait and see what the iPhone 15 offers and how my 12 PM handles iOS 17. My battery health is currently at 92% so it's aging well. If I decide to keep my 12 PM and if the battery gets close to 80% I'll just get Apple to put a new battery in it!

I came to the iPhone 6 Plus from a Galaxy Note 2. I had been waiting for Apple to come out with a phone that was at least as big as the Note. Once the 6 came out, that was it. From there: 7 Plus, 8 Plus, XS Max, 11 Max, 12 Pro Max, 14 Pro Max.
