So I wasn’t seeing the HDR icon, and all of my videos were loading extremely slowly and buffering.Do you see the HDR icon when you use Youtube?
Sure enough!Server side change on YouTube's part; Apple may have asked them to do this due to the crashing.
If you dare:
Enable the Developer menu in Safari Preferences (Advanced tab)
Set the agent string to Firefox/Windows.
Then surf to your desired HDR content.
But yes, you will crash watching that sweet sweet HDR content.
Yeah, I don't know. Working for me in the Firefox - Windows agent smith suggested. You can select pretty low bandwidth and should still be able to get HDR, but I don't get it in Safari. So I wasn’t seeing the HDR icon, and all of my videos were loading extremely slowly and buffering.
I turned off iCloud private relay and the buffering issue was gone and HDR returned. Maybe it’s a bandwidth check on YouTube’s side before serving up HDR?
Still not there for me in Chrome. Youtube setting in Chrome says it is, but it definitely isn't.Confirmed that HDR still showing in Youtube in Chrome. Did not see it in Safari though...only 2 browsers I checked.
Don't use Safari. I use Firefox most of the time. Love it. Use Safari off and on, but Firefox is my default browser.
Yeah definitely. They prob are disabling it for now since the stable and beta Monterey for the new MBP still crashes the laptopYouTube changed something on their end. Not the macOS, we have no updates on it. I managed to get the HDR back on my Safari with Chrome Windows agent.

Hey mate, any news If the latest beta fixes the MagSafe charging bug?Yeah definitely. They prob are disabling it for now since the stable and beta Monterey for the new MBP still crashes the laptop
Haven't tested. Since i heard there is bugs with full screen applications with touchpad gesture if you use the show menu bar thingy. Since i need that I can't upgrade to the beta 2 just yet.Hey mate, any news If the latest beta fixes the MagSafe charging bug?
Also missing HDR playback in YouTube.
Apple has really crapped the bed lately when it comes to software.Haven't tested. Since i heard there is bugs with full screen applications with touchpad gesture if you use the show menu bar thingy. Since i need that I can't upgrade to the beta 2 just yet.
The wait continues ? hopefully it's not hardware related, my Mac is spotless, screen is gorgeous, don't want to play the exchange lottery and end up with a cosmetic defect or crap display.Been waiting for people on beta 2 to review it but none yet unfortunately
I don't think it's hw issue . Looks sw to me tbh. So I wouldn't worry about it too muchApple has really crapped the bed lately when it comes to software.

Thanks for the update.
Hope you're right, what worries me, it's only a small number of us with this issue. ?I don't think it's hw issue . Looks sw to me tbh. So I wouldn't worry about it too much
Yeah . Here's the thing though. I wouldn't even know about this problem if I didn't check the forums lol. Since i never actually charge the laptop with it off and with it's lid closed . Especially since the bug only happens if you close it and then charge. Not charge and then shut it down and close it. Also it only happens below a certain battery percentage.Hope you're right, what worries me, it's only a small number of us with this issue. ?
Hopefully apple support is taking it seriously.
Local HDR is fine though .been watching local HDR videos etc and it's fineI’ll add to this because I thought I was going crazy - was watching HDR videos this morning on the Tally Ho Tech channel then they (and other HDR content) suddenly were only available in 4K since. I'm curious if this is related at all to my previous post about the Apple TV app not streaming HDR content. And I just realized that Disney+ is also supposed to stream in HDR and it's not.
Most people never shutdown their Macs, I'll get in touch with apple support if it's not fixed in the next few betas.Yeah . Here's the thing though. I think either people don't report it since they don't use these forums or they just don't experience it since they haven't tried it.
Yep. It is confirmed tho AFAIK by them so it's just a waiting gameMost people never shutdown their Macs, I'll get in touch with apple support if it's not fixed in the next few betas.
No.Those who noticed this, did you update Safari or OS between last seeing HDR and noticing it was gone in Safari?
