Run ZiPhone to activate and unlock (optional jailbreak). Put in T-Mobile or other SIM, and go.

Really, I think that's it. Maybe changing Network Settings if you want to use EDGE on other carriers. It's pretty simple from my experience!

i used ijailbreak..was soo flipping simple! do i need to process ziphone, too?
i'm a little creeped to spit the case and work inside the iphone...i actually have an older sim card from a t mobile device, are they swapable like that?
i'll look online for instructions on iphone surgery...

DOH...dead simple...just like using a paperclip to "push" a cd tray open, but gentler...

Will this work for me?

I'm on 1.1.1, jailbroken, unlocked with AnySim on T-Mobile, Firmware 04.01.13_G...

What do I need to do in iTunes before I run ZiPhone?

Update, then restore????

I would really like to know the steps involved for my 1.1.1 before I do this.

Thanks for the help guys!

OK, just sync your 1.1.1. iPhone first. Then press restore via iTunes to 1.1.3.

After that's finished, put the iPhone onto Restore mode with the cable still attached and exit iTunes. Run ZiPhone GUI for MAC choosing Activate, Jailbreak and Verbose. But NO unlock.

Start it up and it'll be ready before you know it. Then you have a fresh, jailbroken iPhone with everything ready! Install BSD Subsystem. Then install AnySim.

Before you activate AnySim, turn the iPhone to airplane mode and hit the Auto-lock to Never. run AnySim and it's done in 5 mins..

It really is as simple as that. I did it on Friday, still can't believe how easy it really was...

If you're in an unsupported country like I am, Ireland, Asutralia etc you'll need to install the AppSupport files so your caller ID will work. That can now be done via installer...

Then you can Sync your 1.1.3 iPhone with iTunes again which will very nicely restore your previous settings!

So all my Ringtones are now working, Youtube, Mail, Google Maps etc etc all working with no issues. Summerboard works fined, just run the Summerboard fix under installer....

EDIT: I see ZiPhone 2.3 has just been released and seems to include unlock for 3.9BL phones!! Hooraay!!! Now it's become ever easier, so no need for AnySim and everything should be done in 2.30 seconds!

I have a UK iPhone on o2 (legit), running 1.1.3. If I use ZiPhone just to jailbreak, will all my settings be kept?
I won't have to restore from a backup or anything?

I've just used iJailbreak (http://ijailbreak.com/) for a super easy upgrade and unlock (on 10.5.2 OSX).

I was on 1.1.1 jailbroken and unlocked with AnySIM on Virgin (UK). Same firmware and bootloader (3.9) as you.

1. Sync with iTunes in preparation restore SMS, etc later.
2. Put in the original AT&T SIM (not sure if this is needed but I always do when restoring).
3. Restore in iTunes 7.6 to get it to 1.1.3
4. Quit iTunes, load iJailBreak
5. Hit Jailbeak, then Unlock.
6. Wait 2 mins, lots of text scrolls on the iPhone screen.
7. Done! Restore all SMS etc in iTunes.

1.1.3, already jailbroken with installer on the menu and unlocked (put my Virgin SIM back in to verify). Youtube works, Maps "locate me" works great.

Kudos to all who made it happen so effortlessly for us. :D

Just bit the bullet and jailbroke it, using ZiPhone 2.3. Worked exactly as it said, and all my settings were retained :)

OW22 & Spriter,

Thanks for your helpful instructions! I will give this a try soon!

I appreciate your time! :)

PS...I'm on Mac 10.4.11, and iTunes 7.6, will those work fine for me? Are you guys experiencing any odd issues on the phone?

Hi, just a quick re cap (although im sure u guys r sick of them haha).

i have no plans to use o2, i want to put my t mob sim in it (uk),
i was going to use the gui mac osx ziphone 2.0
and follow intrusctions from iclarified.

You'll be fine.

First thing I did before posting success was to try all the apps out, make calls, receive calls, test YouTube, SMS etc.

Everything is working as it should be (no visual voicemail but that's to be expected on a non-official SIM).

I'm back with my 5 home screens worth of apps and every one works - NativeCN and weDict not working were the reasons I went back to 1.1.1 after going to 1.1.3 a month ago. However, they're now compatible along with all my other apps. Plus wobbly icons and a better Google maps so I'm happy.

Thinking on buying an iPhone in the US to use in Portugal...

Will this unlock iPhones with the native 1.1.3 and the new bootloaders?

PS.:I don't have a mac, is there something for pc?

Awesome...very detailed and helpful!...Thanks!!!

Has anyone tried changing the IMEI to see if it has any effect on the phone service? I'm kind of curious about it...

100% working iPhone; Youtube, Yahoo! Mail, Google Maps, Caller ID.

I have had varied results since the first release.

I did a 'Complete Restore to 1.1.3' and used ZiPhone 2.3 for MACOSX and have a 100% working iPhone; Youtube, Yahoo! Mail, Google Maps, Caller ID.

When prompted to Restore from previous backup I selected New iPhone and typed in a name. Then proceeded to use ZiPhone 2.3.

So it looks like I cannot try this because I'm running Tiger on my Mac...

It only works with Leopard?

Has anyone tried iJailbreak on Tiger 10.4.11??

Can it be used on Windows XP?

Yup... I just jailbreaked and activated last night with the new ziphone 2.3. It works 100% with Tiger now! :) I was pretty excited! :)

i have a card that is the same type from a nokia that used to be carried by tmobile. can they re activate that?

glad so many are getting things done, would like step by step instructions for what to do after jailbreak...
i installed bsd.
no utube [not a necessary].
can use my wifi at home, etc.

when you did that, did you lose SMS, photos, contacts, notes, etc.?

Well you would certainly lose SMS's. But iTunes syncs with whatever you want on your MAC anyway. So as long as your photo's are in iPhoto and your conrtacts are in your address book on your MAC you are just a sync away from restoring everything...

There is a neat little app called Syphone where you can download your SMS's from your iPhone to your MAC.

What I liked about restoring the iPhone in itunes when I upgraded to 1.1.3 was the way all my little settings were restored, i.e. sound settings, brightness levels, alarm clock settings, time zones, world clocks, weather settings, stocks etc.

It really seems to me that iJailbreak is the way to go.

Has anyone tried iJailbreak on Windows XP, or Tiger?

Its done!!!

Finally decided to take the plunge and unlcoked my iphone with the latest Ziphone.

Just 1 problem. I am on an O2 iPhone plan. Needed it unlocked to use when I'm travelling. However, even with my O2 sim card in the phone when I try to use visual voicemail it reverts to the normal voicemail. I think ziphone has somehow disabled visual voicemail and by default is making it to dial the voicemail number. Does anyone know its its possible for me to go back to visual voicemail?

Not the biggest of problems, but a solution if possible would be just amazing!

Does this automatically downgrade ur bootloader to 3.9? I wish to stay on 4.6 as currently, a downgrade to 3.9 bootloader is irreversible?
