Windows 7 networking

Can anyone please comment on how Lion networks/compatible with Windows 7 and even Active Directory with Win 2008?

Thanks.

That's great!

But I was wondering if anyone has actually tried it - and how it worked out.

Has anyone tried networking with Lion???

Thanks.

I've done a little testing myself, and noticed that DFS is supported with the new SMB client. It seems to work well, haven't noticed any problems (yet).

You can set it so you can use both.

I love the awesome animation of "scrolling" through webpages, but its a little glitches so I set the three finger swipe for navigation.

I should report that as a bug really.. 4 finger swipe is set for spaces/mission control and so is 3 finger swipe.

Seems stupid.

Virtually every app that I've brought over from SL has worked, including Photoshop.

The only thing that hasn't worked for me on Lion is anything that has to do with Remuxing MKV's. (Though I can do it with Quicktime 7 but that doesn't preserve the 5.1 surround sound). All the apps I've used except for Quicktime must be built on the same framework. But other then that I've had no problems with Lion.

Graphite is back:

Menu bar behavior is deferent in most apps, this is Safari in full screen mode:

It's only the adress-bar unless you move your mouse to the top of the screen.

Is the Quicklook background still white? I hate the white...it is too distracting...

HDMI-Audio bug

Hi,

I found a bug in DP1 and DP2: My Mac Pro 2010 is connected to a Pioneer AV receiver via HDMI. It seems that the audio signal changes about every 3-4 seconds from LPCM to Dolby Digital. This happens even when no App is running.

Can anybody confirm this bug?

Chris

Speaking of the little things, is anyone else's Safari address bar colored grey instead of the usual white? It really looks like crap. Strange bug.

Not sure if it was discussed previously (I searched), but my pinch to open launchpad does not work. Anybody else? I am an early 2011 mpb (Yes, it's checked in prefs).

Today after playing with the big cat on my MBP, I was frustrated by so many pesky details (especially in respect to multitouch) that I feel better posting this.

- Quicktime Player X no longer saves Quicktime movies (it only exports, which requires transcoding)
- Lots a Quicktime movies that used to play well in Quicktime X now require Quicktime 7. (an no, it's not a question of codec, it seems that QT player X can no longer play movies that were edited in QT 7 pro. Edited, not just trimmed. Trimmed movies still work).
- The 4-finger swipe upward no longer shows the desktop (instead, you need to perform the near-impossible 4-finger pinch™).
- Finder no longer supports pinch to zoom (makes icons bigger).
- Same as above for Safari in coverflow mode (browsing history or bookmarks).
- The path bar (Finder) doesn't show automatically in search windows. It's either always on or off.
- If you perform a 4-finger swipe and hold your fingers on the trackpad, removing them after a while won't restore the previous state.

And in many (most) areas, performance has regressed: scrolling (especially in Safari, Mail and Preview), zooming (preview), video thumbnail generation in the Finder and CPU usage in Quicklook, shutdown time and RAM usage (what a memory hog ). Hopefully, these issues will be fixed in the final release.

Instead of hoping they find these, you should be filing bug reports with Apple.

I don't have Lion so I am curious. This "near-impossible" four finger pinch, why is it so difficult. If it is like the four-finger pinch gesture for returning to iPad's homescreen, it's simple as can be. I assume you are using your thumb plus three fingers to pinch and not trying to pinch only your four fingers together, which would be awkward.

I find this a regression. I often pinch to make icons bigger, especially photos. Great feature that is now gone. :(

Regarding the 4-finger pinch: I have long fingers and the trackpad is a bit small for that. Yes I use my thumb, but most of the time it doesn't work (triggers mission control instead of showing the desktop).

Sorry but I don't want to resize my icon on the desktop everytime I hit the trackpad.

pretty stupid i always used that o_O
I'm with the people who liked it. I actually have my desktop icons auto organize with titles to the right and pinch to make them as small as possible. Then when I need to find something I just pinch out and everything is huge. When I'm done I plop them back down.

Lets me have my cake and eat it too, my desktop looks clean when really I have a bunch of junk on it. I hope they let you toggle it on/off because while I understand why people didn't like it, I'd rather not go back to a normal desktop. Feels like Windows now to just have stuff on there.

Don't know if this has been mentioned yet, but at my school when you go on the WiFi you have to type in your ID and password before it gives you internets. The login is just a web page that you get redirected to so I used to have to open a web browser and go to a random site to see the login thing.

However, in Lion it detects it automatically and opens a finder window with the login screen. This is actually really nice because I have my browsers set to open tabs from last session and it sucks having them all go to that login page and going through refreshing them all. (Or worse, getting home and having them all be worthless because the browser can't find the page outside of school.)
