- The 4-finger swipe upward no longer shows the desktop (instead, you need to perform the near-impossible 4-finger pinch™).

Damn it! Four finger swipe up and down are super easy gestures, why did they change them? So what does four finger swipe up and down do now then?

Why doesn't Apple just allow us to set these the way we want in system preferences? Why? Would that make the system more unstable? More complicated to use? More un-user-friendly? Seriously, why can't they let us choose?

Those who have access to the developer preview, please report this as a feature request! We want choice!

I hope some 3rd party comes up with a CPU effective way of overriding these.

Is Finder finally fixed?

Can you sort different folders with different options? For example downloads-folder is sorted based on Date modified and when you go to Documents-folder, it's sorted based on names.

If I remember correctly, on snow leopard the sorting view moved along the finder-window and no custom sorted folder could be made.

I don't see that in Snow Leo. Switching between the Downloads folder and the documents folder, each retain its own sorting option.

Four-finger-swipe up does Mission Control. Downwards gives you an expose of your current app. It's really intuitive to be hnest. Four-finger punch is also very easy to do if you include your thumb. Relax, you'll learn to love it (and not just because it's forced on you ;).

I find the 4 finger punch quite hard to do, even with the thumb. Most of the time it triggers mission control.

Has anyone noticed that overlay scroll rails produce a blur effect on the background?

For those wanting a little more control over their multi-touch input devices (trackpads or Magic Mice) try BetterTouchTool. It might not work with Lion (haven't tested it yet) but it gives you a MASSIVE choice of gestures and options for each of them. Works excellently, too.

Okay, I guess that's still good then :D

4-finger punch? Wow... Apple is being really aggressive with the innovations in Lion.

quick question about Safari

Since 2-finger swipes causes the browser to go back/forward, how does it handle pages that have horizontal zoom? Can you change back to 3-finger swipe?

Thanks, but I'm in the Silicon Valley, and my life is very, VERY busy. If I'm not working to create some of this ridiculous technology (mostly on the semiconductor side), I'm desperately trying to look out for my family and my health!

The real-world: the resolution, 3-D, and graphic effects are AWESOME. BOOM!

This is funny just because my posts are so low and i joined in 2002 too

It scrolls horizontally until you've reached the edge of the page, then another swipe will start to reveal the previous (or next) page. It's pretty clever.

You can still use the old swiping if you've set it up in the Mouse or Trackpad preferences. Or, in any app, hold Option to temporarily switch from Mission Control-swiping to the old swiping-to-navigate.

(The old swipe-to-navigate feels backwards in Safari for Lion, though. And there's no nice transition when swiping.)

How is Finder at standardizing how you view folders? I prefer a list view with a smaller font, but even when setting it to "use this setting for all folders" (or whatever it's called) it doesn't seem to stick.

3 finger back/fwd still works in conjunction to the 2 finger swipe, which is a bit strange.
But this swipe is quite misleading by itself, and I don't like it. It can easily be triggered by a horizontal scroll or a pinch gesture (to zoom). Plus the page that swipes in isn't actually ready to be used. It will reload, and may end up in a different state.

meh

I really hope they down use this for the slider highlighting...

show.php

The blue its self isn't that bad, but this bit is awful (imo)
show.php

The blue itself isn't that bad, but the actual shadow/gradient, and the uneven highlighting -thats neither here, nor there- but thats fine for a beta.

Probably a bug since that doesn't happen on any other sliders.

Yep, or a test which they forgot to remove from the code, probe not the final though.

Edit: Also, is this new?
show.php

I probably added that to the menu by accident but there are a few minor issues with that, 1. it has a custom icon, 2. it doesn't give any right click menu at all and 3. it doesn't point to any existing file or folder. Im also pretty sure that should be pointing to the iTunes/mobile services backup folder, but it doesn't, which is odd.

MobileBackups started showing up for everyone. Like you discovered it does nothing yet.

It's highlighted because you have Full Keyboard Access on and the segmented control has focus. (Indicating that you can use the arrow keys to control it.)

In your screenshot, if you pressed Tab, the focus would probably move to the "Sample" button.
