You could always just use the down arrow (yes, I know it's not in the home row, but it works).

So the arrows are immune to this new system? They will keep scrolling still if held down, not ask you what sort of arrow response you want? :D

Goodness, thinking of that, do the arrows still scroll in the same direction in Lion? It wouldn't surprise me if that were changed along with the mouse wheel thing!

Arrow scrolling hasn't changed.

Another little thing- When you type the wrong password when doing a "connect as" to a shared machine, the dialog shakes (like the old login window) rather than a sheet dropping down.

to the guy that's having a problem typing fffffff

Solution no. 1: Use text-expander. Set it as if you type ".f" or "dot f" it will expand to fffffffffffffffff, same with os, set it to ".o" and it will expand to oooooooo. There are many text expander for mac, one of the more famous one is this:

http://www.smilesoftware.com/TextExpander/

Solution no. 2.: Use OSX's built in auto correct feature. In Language Text > Text > Symbol and Text Substitions. For the 'replace' column add '.f' without quotes, and on the 'with' column add fffffffff, or whatever number of f's you want. The same method for o.

Now whenever you type .f, it will auto replace to ffffffffffff, its much faster than holding f for a few second IMHO.

But the problem is that the number of "f" express how angry you are, so depending on the situation the amount can be more or less :D

I'm not actually saying this is a problem, just that Apple are taking away a - albeit minimal - degree of flexibility with text.

I personally won't mind as I never hold down keys, I always press them multiple times as the repeat rate is too fast for me to control the exact number.

yeah, a lot of the keys are immune.. for instance, you can still make a line with a single press of the hypen.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

it's only the letters and numbers that won't auto repeat.

for whatever reason, opt-(letter) will still repeat their character.

Yes, it's bloody annoying. Instead of the smart ass remarks, how about a solution?
Hey, you stated it annoyed you but it doest annoy me and most others so how about being a little more tolerant with people who just can follow you?

Let's not get caught up on a specific series of characters here...

I use text editors that I scroll through with the keyboard. i.e. VI style. While this works in Terminal, it does not work in other apps. e.g. my VI plugin in Eclipse... I can no longer hold down 'J' to scroll down a few lines or move down a file quickly but slow enough to skim code. I have to use the trackpad... which is kinda why I'm using the VI plugin in the first place.

This is annoying.
Well I have to agree that this is very annoying.

I hate 'clean install' very much.
After all I think apple itself told that lion will need snow leopard to be installed, in most cases.
I started with tiger many years ago, and now I have sl.
I intend to install lion over it.
Will I see any performance degradation after this procedure?
When I came to mac from pc world, I imagined that I would never do a fresh install of os again. Awful things like format, setup etc.

So, is it wise to install lion over my existing system, or a fresh install (even in mac world) will lead to better os speeds?

If you go at it the normal route, you have no choice. You need a running copy of Snow Leopard to be able to download and install Lion.

I would do an upgrade and if you see something is wrong / slow, then do a fresh install

You are moved automatically to your desktop. The next time you open the app it'll be opened in full screen mode.

I haven't seen too much of the new Quick Look. How is it? Pros + cons vs. quick look in SL?

It doesn't work for me, at least if I am logged into 2 accounts. I haven't tested to see if that is the trigger. Anyway, if I arrow key from one photo to another sometimes it might switch to displaying the new photo but mostly it just shows grey. If I pres space, wait a second, and press space again, it will display the jpg. Scrolling through photos with the arrow key is a no-go.

Cover flow in the common file dialog-

Another: when you update an open app in the app store, it offers to quit it for you (rather than requiring you to close it manually).

True, I suggest a different solution then - Anger Management :chuckle:

Nice. They seem to add little bits and pieces of Finder-ness to open/save dialogs with every release - I see the path bar in there now too, another nice. Can we do 32x32 icons in list view there? Or sorts in column view? I assume it's still a matter of changing columns that show up and their orders and sizes on a per app basis - that has always been such a pain.

How about the Open/Save dialog actually remembering the ORDER in which you store your icons in a specific folder? I bet it still can't do that can it? It must be hard to code...

Preview Print dialogue now has an option to "Print selected Page".

Halleluia! Print selection, Full screen apps, it's like to good old days of Windows 3.1!

With auto-save, does a document automatically save itself to the computer right away, or do you first save it once yourself wherever you want it and then it auto-saves from then on?
