I don't have the Skype.app on my computer but when I opened up Address Book and clicked on the title next to a number, this menu appeared. Looks like apple will integrate Skype in messages to have the mac make phone calls :apple::D

You did have Skype at some point on a previous computer you migrated from.

These two files:

SkypeABDialer.bundle
SkypeABSMS.bundle

are in your Address Book plug-ins in your ~/Library

New in iTunes: when you buy a song, you can start playing it as soon as starts downloading without having to wait for the download to finish.

That's not new sir.

That is just awesome.

My only gripe with OS X 10.8 is the UI for Notification Centre.

1. Helvetica Neue is awesome. But limit to where it looks good. Just dont put it everywhere. Lucida Grande or Calibri is a much better option.

2. Moreover, the animation for Notification Centre showing up with screen shift is silly. Don't like it. A put would be great.

Can you rename files by just clicking on the filename in the titlebar?

I saw one case where you could in ML, but I am just wondering if it always works that way

No, so far I've only seen this when duplicating a file in textedit. I think it'd be a nice feature to have system-wide though even for renaming preexisting documents.

One interesting thing I noticed when messing around with the new "Open" dialogue in Preview — if you are in the iCloud document management pane, you can drag and drop any file, including those that Preview can't open. In the below screenshot I dropped a png, rtf and mp4 file. Unfortunately, when you do this, it seems that the rtf and mp4 files can't be removed or renamed since they aren't of a type that Preview supports. Ie: They'll remain on the cloud indefinitely, unless you go to ~/Library/Mobile Documents/com-apple-Preview/Documents and manually delete them.

I don't know if it was already posted but I noted a new thing. When copying files to a pendrive or whatever it is, copied folders during transfert show a X button to cancel action and they also show a progress bar.

in case it was already seen, sorry!

Usability wise, it seems dangerous to position the X there. I haven't used it, but could someone confuse the X for a folder deletion button and not a stop task button?

Because that's what the x means. It means if you click this, I'll stop copying this folder here and delete whatever I put here for you.

What you see there is the secondary copy, not the original file. The original file/folder looks the same, the progress bar/x is displayed on the copied version. How else would you put it?

Autosave rocks!

Duplicating a file now:
1. Immediately lets you choose a name for the new file (see shot above)
2. Immediately saves it to the same folder as the original file, either locally or on iCloud

This is awesome, totally making the "Duplicate" much slicker and more immediate. This makes a duplicating much more useful, and really reduces the mental clutter of having yet another document hanging in limbo before requiring the naming and filing action of a "Save as" later.

Even newly created documents are filed immediately! Try creating a new document in Text Edit and notice it gets the saved icon as soon as you make an edit and it pops into ~/Library/Mobile Documents right away.

Thumbs WAY up! :)

Interestingly, the behaviour for New Document may suggest that iCloud appears to be the default storage for stuff. Hit Cmd+N in an app, and that document is immediately in the cloud, without even naming it or saving it once... interesting direction things are going.

I think it'll work better with the stop sign button (red with a white –)

Has anyone noticed...

Has anyone noticed that the icon of mountain lion is just a lioness? And that a mountain lion is also known as a puma or a panther? Looks like apple has just run out of cats. We all knew it had to happen one day. Just wait until you see OS Serval, that's when we know apple is struggling dor ideas.

The new Duplicate looks like a nice way of doing things.

I was wondering about the default into iCloud. Is there a way to change the default setting for new documents to a different location? Also, is there an easy way to not save the document, i.e. with the 10.7 Versions I can open up textedit do whatever and then not save the document, is that still available in 10.8 Versions?

They juste needed a cat name that contained "Lion", because this upgrade is not that different from Lion. Like Snow Leopard in respect to Leopard. That's all.

Perhaps, but the Mountain Lion is leaner and faster than the Lion, and as it turns out OS X Mountain Lion is allegedly much faster and will supposedly deprecate Carbon APIs, as well as dropping X11. Coincidence? Perhaps.

Uh,no,its quite clearly a Mountain Lion. As in different animal.

I'm pretty sure Apple planned out the rest of the big cats and OS X updates/time frames years ago.

Leopard > Snow Leopard

Lion > Mountain Lion

10.9 = ? Apple knows. I'm sure they've known for a while.

Yes when closing the document you're still presented with the "save as" dialogue, pre-populated with the file's currently saved name and location :) And it's quite clear now as well since you can choose the option "Delete" rather than "Cancel", though it seems the "Don't Save" label still pops up sometimes so it's a bit inconsistent.

Sweet. It sounds like Apple thought this one through. Does "Revert to Saved" still work the same where, if you haven't closed the document, it automatically reverts to the last saved Version without going through the animation?

Yeah, I agree, I don't think Apple a month before announcing it goes...hey, what should we call it? - I think they have it all mapped out....

Well, they didn't have it mapped out in 2001, because 10.1 was puma, which is another word for mountain lion.

Request: Calendar & Contacts experience?

Can someone either post pictures or speak to what iCal (now Calendar) and Address Book (now Contacts) feels like under Mountain Lion?

I must say, I absolutely cannot stand the iOS-y versions found in 10.7 and hope they are looking to improve them. Particularly the print views in iCal.
