My guess is, in order for that notification to appear, you'll have to connect your Gmail account with the Mail app. Then, when you get a notification, it'll take you to the Mail app.

Yeah, I dont use Mail app in OS X and the Gmail app in iOS.
I assume the notification shows in OS X and iOS? Since they are connected with icloud.

What happens to other notifications pushed to iOS apps? They will show also in OS X? Without any software to open them in at OS X?

Found a bug in the GM:

While in icon view, when you copy files and folders into a new location and the copy finishes. The progress bars and close "x's" on the folders and files don't go away until you go to list view and switch back.

Anyone else find this?

I had this in DP 4 but Since I went to GM it's working correctly.

I have a question regarding the notification center... i use the gmail app on iphone 4s. When i get a mail on gmail it shows in notification center and takes me right to the app on the phone, when pressing on the message in notification center on the iphone.

What happens on os x ? when this gmail message show up in notification center on ox x? does it take me to the gmail.com page or what?

Only iMessages are syned across devices. For gmail alerts on 10.8, you need to setup an Exchange account in Mail.app with m.google.com as the server, just like you did on your iPhone. You can use iCloud to sync the settings between all your devices, so you only need to set it up once.

Has anyone else experienced the very random sound effects coming from the OS, totally unrelated to what you are doing?

Reading a website, editing a picture for example and you get a random "Remove an app from the dock" whoosh.

No explanation for it.

Also, typing in website like right now, and the cursor will move forward as normal and appear to have deleted what was written, just a couple of letters, but they are still there.

Bizarre.

I shall bug report, but how the heck I report these I don't know. (Note screenshot of the missing SE from THESE - doesn't really show up, but the cursor is blinking two letters further down)

This has probably been posted before, but you can now arrange system preferences alphabetically.

Yup! I've been meaning to write about that somewhere but I know exactly what you're talking about. Every now and then....just a random "whoosh"...

what is the point with icloud and notifications if they dont show up on all the devices. So alot of notifications wont show up because you only have the app on iphone. like the bloomberg app on iphone, when you get notification from it on iphone it wont show up because you dont have a bloomberg app on the os x... halfway and pointless notifications if their locked to one device.

Well, the only thing is, say you did get that notification on your Mac. Say, you get a notification for a ToDo app that's on your iPhone. But your iPhone is at work... and you get this message at home on your Mac, but there is nothing you can do with it since there is no corresponding app on your Mac. IMO it would create confusion for most people.

Granted, this would be solved if we could run iOS apps as dashboard widgets. Then you could have notifications appear on all your devices.

Guys, is it so hard? This is a thread for all the new, small features in OS X, NOT a thread for bugs. If you want to report a bug, go in another thread.

agree. right now it seems to be that its a half way good integrated solution between the iOS and OS X clients and icloud dont work very much as intended.
Whats the point with notifications everywhere if they aint everywhere and the icloud cant sync them..

They never said notifications were meant to be everywhere or synced with iCloud. IMHO, it's a terrible idea for your computer or phone to start notifying you of things on your other device; each device needs to be in charge of its own notifications (email, messages, and other commonalities notwithstanding.)

Been there since Puma (10.1).

In 10.0, the alphabetical list was the only view. In 10.1 when Apple arranged the preference panes into groups they also included that option and it's been there ever since.

When you click the message in Notification Center in ML it takes you to the message in the Mail.app. This is how it is for me anyway. Hope this helps

Hopefully Gmail will support desktop notifications with Notification Center so it'll take you to gmail.com.

Yeah Thats what I am talking about... and lets hope its not just gmail... a lot of other apps should be cross OS X / device supported notifications too.. not only the built in apple apps. :(

I've noticed now that my Mac supports the 'Find My Mac' feature in iCloud. This was previously unachievable in Lion, something about a recovery partition or something, either way, I'm satisfied.

Probably doesn't belong here but does Chrome now show up in notification center for anyone else? I thought it would only support App Store apps

Unless Google makes a Gmail app for the Mac, then NC on the Mac won't receive any alerts to display for Gmail. NC is not pushing the alerts for things, NC is just a central hub where all your alerts are gathered. NC isn't going to scan the internet for everything you might use on a regular basis and post up alerts. It has to be fed the alerts. It will only receive alerts from the apps that provide it alerts. We will see more and more notifications from apps as time goes on and ML is released. Just like how it is for iOS.

So, for right now, the way for you to receive alerts for new mail in your Gmail account is to setup the Mail app on your Mac with your Gmail account.
