Yup! I've been meaning to write about that somewhere but I know exactly what you're talking about. Every now and then....just a random "whoosh"...

Have you tried turning off the sounds in Adium or any similar program? I remember having similar whooshes before and found out it was because Adium plays that sound when someone comes online.

Unless Google makes a Gmail app for the Mac, then NC on the Mac won't receive any alerts to display for Gmail.

Actually, Notification Center supports notifications from websites (via Safari). So Google simply has to add NC support to gmail.com. No app necessary.

Yes, I've also heard that websites can push notifications through Safari, though I don't recall where. Chrome will probably add that soon, followed by Firefox in two or three years.

Safari 6.0 address and search bar

Clicking once anyway within the margins of the address bar now highlights the whole url. I find typing in another url or search phrase so much easier this way.

Would love to know....

How is iMessages now that you can add you mobile telephone number & iCloud email? Has it fixed the cross syncing problems?

Eg. In the UK we (nearly) all use iMessage on out phones as free SMS alternative. That's great. However as the iMessage on OSX is registered to our iCloud emails, messages wouldn't be received. Alternatively, if you sent a message from iMessage (OSX) the reply would not be received by your phone.

There was talk (or maybe even confirmation at a keynote) that the ability to use both phone number and iCloud email was coming in ML / iO6.

I've not seen this mentioned anywhere else but there's a new (to me) icon in the System Preferences pane called Ink that has something to do with hand writing recognition. Also, it's a 32-bit preference pane so requires a restart of System Preferences when selected.

iCal was not showing current date on pre Snow Leopard unless it was running.

It showed on Leopard. On Tiger, it did need to have to be running (when it was closed, the date/time returns o Jul 17. On Panther it would show the current date even it was closed after it ran.

Little things I noticed were gone:
  • Activity Window is gone from Safari.

WHAT?!?!?!?!

That, and the omnibar with no way to turn it off are my biggest problems with the new Safari.

Don't worry, the Activity windows hasn't been able to download anything in the past version anyway, so Apple had already killed it a while ago.

Do we know when ML is released? Towards the end of the month? How long for the MBAs to ship with ML once it's available?

Thanks.

You can/could option-double-click to download from the Activity window in Lion.

i believe that that will arrive with the release of ios 6, not Mountain Lion, as it is listed as an ios 6 feature, not a mountain lion one.

Don't think this has been remarked on already.

Preview now has screenshot functionality built-in under File / Take screen shot.

Essentially Grab is now part of Preview (though still exists standalone).

That's in 10.6.

Just noticed that you can't drag things out of the dock anymore. So annoying.

You can... you just have to drag it further and hold it longer. This is, I assume, to prevent accidental app removals. I really like this. Up until ML I used Onyx to lock the dock so I wouldn't do this. But it was annoying since if I DID want to remove or add anything I had to launch Onyx, toggle the setting, relaunch the Dock... This is way better IMHO.

Oh...then it's a good thing I still use Safari 5.0.x on my laptops. :D

That's what I always do on Snow Leopard also.

Aren't all those people who complain about the lack of activity window in safari using it exclusively to download videos off youtube?

'cause those people would be better served by one of the many extensions that serve that purpose. One being click to flash.

Are you running Messages?

Because the same sound as the 'kicked something out of dock'-sound is the default for a buddy becoming unavailable.

No. YouTube isn't a problem. I'm surprised at how much I use Activity to find the URL of random flash videos.

That's totally it. Thanks. I assumed it was Messages since it didn't do it the day that I didn't have it open. I never had my buddy list open so I couldn't see it. (the ichat buddy list is really inelegant imo...)
