OK back on topic. Mountain Lion seems more stable in the GM release. But TextEdit can't search case-sensitive letters. Also if you open file from textedit, and list by Date Modified, it sorts it in reverse order.

Yes, now I remember, this is one of the reasons I downgraded from Lion to SL. Can't believe they haven't changed it...someone must 've complained?

I notice options for facebook notifications, however I don't seem to be getting any notifications for these events. Anyone else have it working properly?

Facebook integration isn't coming with the shipping version of Lion. It'll be complete in the Fall.

On a side note: Did you install the Facebook developer package at any point? It seems weird if Apple included these options in the vanilla GM seed.

1. I think Launchpad doesn't go that deep down the hierarchy of the Applications folder in Mountain Lion anymore. Previously in Lion my Launchpad was inundated with Adobe uninstallers and Microsoft Office apps that cannot be used alone. Now they are nowhere to be seen.

2. Progress bar for Applications folder if you don't have Launchpad in the Dock while installing/updating apps from Mac App Store

Neither of those is the case for me. I can do case-sensitive searches and it sorts by Date Modified just fine.

That is great news for me, I am sick of all those little Microsoft application showing up in launchpad. Makes it really messy!

More and more pieces of the operating system are moved into a LLVM (low level virtual machine). Now even compiling fast C code needs a virtual machine in the back end!!!

This is totally, completely wrong. LLVM is a compiler infrastructure, not a virtual machine! This is nothing the likes of Java which has an just-in-time compiler.

It has the term 'virtual machine' in it because it has source and target independent code optimizers. You can compile different source code languages for many different CPU architectures.

But agai, this has NOTHING todo with virtual machines (as in VMWare or Parallels) and it also has nothing to do with the just-in-time compiling of Java.

Yeah it's basically a compiler compiler from what I understand, while Clang is the compiler for the code in OS X (replacing GCC). Clang lagged behind in performance but has caught up now iirc, and apparently has a bunch of benefits on the developer side of things.

And LLVM is actually capable of JIT compilation too (...or creating a JIT compiler?), but I don't know of any examples of it in action in OS X...other than the OpenGL compiler mentioned. And even then the only stuff I could find on that was that it improved performance, and was only used on the older Intel GMA graphics (that path was skipped on others). Well I'm sure there could be bits elsewhere but it'd probably only be in use if it provided a benefit like the OGL example.

It is part of the Mountain Lion beta for now. You would have to sign up for the Apple Developer program to become part of the Mountain Lion beta test.

You can download Safari 6 for Lion if you join the apple Safari developer programme. Unlike iOs and OS X development, joining that programme is free.

Be warned it is still a beta (not quite the same version as 10.8 GM, which seems stabler).

----------

did they get rid of the "ctrl+scroll" zoom feature?

It is there in Accessibility settings. In fact, perhaps they added a new zoom option "Picture-in-picture mode". Was that there before?

How is that pictured feature activated?

I take it that it's not the 3-finger up swipe that started with Snow Leopard?

I wish that Safari's TabView was sort of like Expose instead of the current Spaces like thing they have now. IF they did it like expose, it'd be much easier to switch to a tab and view all of them at once. That's one of the things I really like about Firefox's Panorama tab view and miss in Safari. Plus, in Firefox, you can even sort them in groups.
